I'm interested in starting a home workshop for clubs. To start, I'll just want to regrip clubs, so I know I need to get things like a vice, some solvent, some double-sided tape, some grips, a drip pan, and a bottle with the sticky solvent stuff.

Where can you get this? What vices, drip pans, etc. do y'all recommend?

Do I need something like this or would something like this suffice?

I guess GolfSmith is the way to go, here .

Hi eric. I use the gripper at 139.00. Its all you really need unless you're gonna gonna do a ton of grips. Any pan that covers the length of the grip area will suffice. Make sure that you have a good utility knife and hook blades for graphite shafts. Golfsmith, golfworks, myostrich golf and lowprogolf are the places that usually get my supplies from. You can also get double sided tape from hardware stores and mineral spirits will work for grip solvent if the need arises. Most golf supply stores are pretty competitive in price. I would start out with a couple samples of different grips that you deem popular and see whats gonna sell and what wont. Then when you get it figured out, maybe buy those by the case. The grips that you just used, i pay around 5.00 apiece for from one of my suppliers. Once you start doing clubmaking, you start running into different stores that will give you deals on certain things. Hope this helps, and if theres anything i can help you with, please feel free to ask! Also make sure you have some masking tape for build up if people need a little larger that standard size grips. Sometimes you need to get between standard and mid size grips and this is the way to do it.

Hi Eric,
The deluxe stand is great if you have the room for it but if you're not gripping a lot it's overkill. Like bobkin mentioned, the pro stand at 139 will handle things well.

In my garage I have a vise on my workbench so I just use a vice clamp ( http://www.golfsmith.com/products/8288 ) - Then I use their drip pan http://www.golfsmith.com/products/8322

I pay a little more for the Pro solvent because I like the way feels and cleans up. You can reuse the solvent until it's gone.

Golfsmith even has a kit that might help to get you started - http://www.golfsmith.com/products/237237

Other supplies you'll want
J-Blades to remove the old grips without damaging the shaft. These blades will fit any standard utility knife - http://www.golfsmith.com/products/8533
Tape scraper - http://www.golfsmith.com/products/8228
Tape - http://www.golfsmith.com/products/902B
Solvent - http://www.golfsmith.com/products/9158

I live near 3 Golsmiths so that's where I get my supplies but there are dozens of places on the web to order your supplies.

Once you start though, you're hooked! Have fun

I'm really only looking to regrip my clubs, fwiw. Not to start a little home business or anything like that.

Thank you very much for the answers so far. VERY appreciated. I've got enough info to get started now!

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
