Restoring Winged Foot's Greens

A great three-part set. The surveying tools are real, and I know one of the main guys who pioneered it (he worked with Mark Sweeney, and has done work on Augusta's greens every year for a decade or two, etc.). His system can map a green to within a millimeter every centimeter. (Obviously then the data is smoothed a bit, because green contours that small are likely just a scuff mark, a ball mark, etc.)

I heard when they measured the East course greens, they were keeping the info under lock and key because they didn't want anyone getting hold of the info. I imagine the same is true of the West. It's a fascinating exercise. Thanks for sharing

Really interesting. I like that there's this movement towards larger greens, and this restoration is part of that.

Also, it is really impressive that they seem to be restoring the slope in the greens by hand. I can't imagine the precision and time that takes to do that.
