There are plenty of discussions about clones and Gigagolf specifically on TST, but since most are several years old I wanted to hear from folks who are playing them in 2017.

I’ve just come back to the game after many years. As a high handicapper and occasional golfer I just can’t justify paying for name brand gear. It’s not that important to me. Also I tend to prefer new over used, especially if they are fitted for me.

That being said, I spent several weeks researching club options and eventually ordered some Gigagolf TRX Powershot irons 5-pw, and a P3 driver. I’ve had them nearly two weeks so not much to report yet, but so far I like them, though I am struggling with the driver.

Going forward I still need to replace a 3 wood and sand wedge.

Who has experience with GG, Pinemeadow, Hireko and Diamond Tour? How do you like them? What are your recommendations for fairway woods and hybrids?

Just curious.

A little late to pose the question as you have already purchased. All I would say is that the "fitting" offered through a website isn't a real fitting. I believe you need to evaluate the dynamic motions of a player's swing to obtain a true fitting. Given that, you could have taken the fitting numbers (length and lie) provided by GG and used it to shop for used name brands with your specs for the same price or less than you paid for the GG set. Having said that, in either case, if they work, they work.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

I've been playing my GG irons for the last 4-5 years and they've done pretty well for me so far.  It's definitely not the clubs that's holding me back and I don't have easy access to second hand stores and the like...

Woods: Ping G15 10.5* Draw Driver;   Ping G Series 14.5* 3 Wood;  Callaway 2019 Apex 19* 3 Hybrid

Irons: Mizuno MP-33 4-PW

Wedges: Ping Glide 1.0 52* SS, Glide Stealth 2.0 56* ES, Hogan 60* SW

Thanks for the advice. As I mentioned I am an occasional golfer, plus I prefer to buy new rather than used (generally). So the online fitting is good enough for my purposes. Since GG and the like are such small, lesser known brands I just wanted to hear from others who play them.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
