Day 103: Putted for a while on my mat, working on set up. Losing my streak over. The next couple of days, but this was a good cap. Starting again when I’m back from the trip!

Day 19: 13 Apr

More practice drills, working on backswing and transition. Trying to understand the “feel” I’m getting if/when the club path is neutral versus excessively over-the-top.

Day 20: 14 Apr

Played 18 holes (was late arriving at the course so a few warmup swings then started to play). Didn’t do a bad job overall. Things to work on: be more positive over short putts and avoid tentative strokes; “every shot matters”: I’ve got the right attitude for the shot that just happened, but I need to completely focus on the next shot.

Day 23: practiced before round. Great chipping and putting sessions, but no translation to the course. Rough preround warmup with full swing. Block slice after Stack training this week. Need plenty of work.

Day 29:

Played 18. Started +7 on the first three holes (double-triple-double), and then steadied from there to shoot 87. Struggled to be athletic swinging the club, thinking too much about new feel. Fanned a few way right, but when executed decently shots were a tight draw. A few drop kicked a few off the tee, but conditions were pretty firm so loss in carry was made up with extra roll.

Day 22: 16 Apr

More Indoor putting practice on mat, focusing on short putts. Also continued with my backswing/transition drills to continue trying to groove the inside-path I’ve been trying to make consistent.

Day 50 (16 Apr 23) - started with some full swings with the driver hitting balls into the net.  Did the powder spray on the face - saw (and “felt”) was hitting low int the face.  Made some slight setup positioning to get the ball in the center.  Moved out to about 25yds and hit pitches the 50 and chips with the 8i into net - working on one bounce into the net.  Good afternoon session.

Day 24: Stack training session 13 of 18. 109 mph and 305 distance potential. Results did not transfer to the course for accuracy but hit my longest drive ever on 4, the #1 handicap.  Hopefully, that was a one round glitch!

Day 51 (17 Apr 23) - Played the back 9 with friends at Minnesott.  We played a modified stroke play format - everyone played their second shot off the best drive of the group.  Made me appreciate why a 250yd drive plays much shorter than a 200yd drive.

Day 30:

Did some work on downswing with almost golf balls after kid's baseball practice and then dinner. It was pretty dark, not a great session.

Seeing a trend of losing strokes putting, so I plan to work some putting practice into my weekly sessions.

    • Day 201 - Dry reps feeling the right elbow and right hip.
    • Day 16- Worked on set up and backswing.
    • Circa 2008 I was playing Ping Eye 2 clone irons (probably SGI in 6-category MPF system). Irons were shafted with Dynalite S300 shafts, higher launch cousin of traditional DG S300. One season, I started having trouble with inconsistent iron distances.  I went through fittings, and tried out these UGI models: Ping G10, and Callaway Big Berthas. These are UGI models with high-launch shafts. Problem: Short irons and wedges all ballooned. {UGI head + high launch shaft} = too much help on launch. I also tried out the Callaway X20 (SGI) and X20 Tour (GI) models. The base X20 had 106-gram Uniflex shaft (mid-launch), some 14 grams lighter than the clone set Dynalite S300s. Played the X20 model for two seasons, then upgraded to X20 Tours. For the X20 Tours, I got more GIRs - as long as I was practicing and playing regularly. The base X20 irons got me close to green but I had more distance dispersion than with the X20 Tours. Fastforward to 2018. I switch over to Tour Edge CB Pro Tungsten irons - hollow heads rated as GI. Shafts: KBS Tour 90. Good irons, but... the short irons and wedges were flying proportionally shorter than the 4i-6i. Solution: I put lead tape on shaft below the grips to ensure I got a full drop on the down swing. Research on wedges and short irons suggests that for 8i and above, the launch help/hybrid head has diminishing returns. The high loft angle gets the ball up plenty well on shots with fairly decent contact. Check out the Edison wedge site for details. And, to resolve three seasons of hit and miss, I got fitted and now play Mav MAX irons (see sig line) w/graphite shafts. On the line between GI and SGI (Hot List categories) - certainly not hybrid iron heads. OK, level with us, @Fontyyy... Are you trying to convince us or yourself?
    • Day 14: 12/9/2023 Putting today. Well bead work mostly on the indoor mat.
    • Played Musgrove Mill Golf course in Clinton, SC, today. First round in 7 weeks but I have been Stack speed training and working on putting. Putted great in warmup but had to revert back to the claw style on the first hole. Tough course, at 155 Slope, to return to golf without hitting a ball since early October. Shot 55-41=96. Opened with an easy fairway, GIR and 2-putt par from 10’. Parred 7 and birdied 9. Really struggled with firm packed sand on several holes, and an unreliable fade on the others. Abandoned the fade on 9 and played the last 10 holes in +4. Unlucky 3-putt on 15 when left the flagstick in, as I normally do, and the 2’ par putt rattled back and forth off the stick and cup and bounced out. Also 3-putted 11 after a good approach took the slope and rolled all the way to the front of the green. 55 has to be my highest score ever on 9 holes. As is the 14-stroke swing from one nine to the next.
