Day 215.  Attempted the ruler drill (putting on carpet, real balls) late this evening.  As before, my focus was on the putting stroke itself, and I counted as a miss if I got wristy, even if the ball's travel was fine.

Day 96 (01 Oct 21) - Played nine today with just the 3w-4h-6i-8i-PW and putter.  This was with the Missus and grandson.  Played from the reds so I knew I could still pretty much make greens if the shots aligned but they didn't.  Still it was a great day to work on shot planning, taking into account the distance to the middle of the green, whether the pin is front-middle-back, what club or combo of clubs would cover said distance.  Can say that there is something freeing about not having so many club choices in the bag.

Day 216.  Late morning today, I spent 20 minutes on a real putting green working on 3-15' putts.   No measured drills, but I did focus on usual things (making the short ones, hitting longer ones where they either go in or past the hole, but not so far past that I stress on the one coming back).

Day 96 (02 Oct 21) - played 9 today at a course that I’ve only played once before (it is set up as 3 9-hole tracks). Played the Lakes track focusing on pre-shot routine, looking to where best to play the next shot.

Day 217.  One of those weekends where I'm away and don't have access to my usual practice facilities, but I do have a carpeted area in which I can, and did, five minutes of putting across a ruler, focusing on the putting motion.

Day 64:

Played 18. Total disaster of a round. Feels weren't working at all, no clubface awareness, and for a stretch of 5 holes could barely find the ball. Threw in the towel with regards to scoring at the turn, had a few beers, and just had fun for the last nine holes.

Day 218.  I spent 20 minutes after the Cardinals game today on a putting green (a "real" outdoor one, but artificial turf, and now I sort of want one) practicing various length putts with the usual foci.

Any idea about how long they last and how well they hold up? My wife has actually given me the okay to build one in my backyard.

Day 65:

After a confidence crushing round, I went back to basics today. At some point too late in my round to salvage it, I realized I was not making a full shoulder turn, so I started with this. Also worked on not whipping the clubhead inside.

Did some COVID-19 day-5 drills to finish up, and then a little bit of pitching practice.

    • So I’ve been away from the course for quite a while now, playing maybe 5 rounds over the past 2 years. Before this layoff, I was playing to an 11.9 and my bag setup was fitting of my game. I was always an average driver at best, but being a very high spin player I was playing a Titleist TS4 with a 72g X-stiff shaft. In my recent outings, this setup is proving to be a bit too much for me. I’m a bit all over the face and have a big 2 way miss. I’m thinking of changing to something a bit more forgiving, but don’t want to increase my already high spin numbers too much. I am considering something like a Titleist TSR2 or Ping G410 Plus lofted down a bit. Also thinking of going down to a stiff shaft, but keeping it at a heavier weight or more stout profile. Thinking this might help me get back to my consistent pull-fade from the past. Any thought on whether this would work? As a cheaper option, I could go a bit older and get a Ping G LST head and put it in an extra 60g X-stiff shaft I have lying around, cutting it down an inch to help get back some consistency first. Then I could look at getting a proper fitting done again after I have gotten my swing a bit more grooved in. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
    • we have our national final open-qualifying every FEB off the tips, which is just over 7000yards the winners always around the mid 60's  ... maybe low 60's for PGA tour players ... our rough can be very unforgiving being links course hard baked sand pockets only a yard off some fairways which can be narrow in places ...
    • Stopped following.. the chasing scratch, guys ...but 102 !! from a 6HC unless it was one of the hardest courses around or very poor weather conditions.. yeah, maybe the boys need to make a new goal... I'd be pretty devastated putting anything into the 90's esp back to back... 100+ maybe drunk ?
    • I couldn't agree more with the coach ..I've been very lucky to have met a super nice new member at my club who used to be a Club pro coach + HC golfer(scratch at present) ... now retired not stressed about comps etc ..we get out least once a week ... have helped me greatly with my game, not major changes but just small changes .. I have now seen my HC fall to 7.4 from 10+ a couple of months ago.. and if I put few more decent rounds in should well test my lowest 6.7 from this time last year pre my APRIL onwards slump .. Much of what my new Golfing mate/coach has helped me with isn't so much technique (outside some chipping tech) but basics ...like "Whats your target" ??? "whats your miss" (where would you like to end up if you didn't hit your target) "Take your time don't rush... PSR same every time" slow it down( I've always had an issue if my swing goes wrong to next time try extra hard aka harder faster')so he's been getting me to hit say a 6-7iron where I would have hit a 8iron just 50-60% swing not my 80%+ efforts work with what you have my natural flight path is fade ..but many time I've been trying to force a draw etc and mostly isn't a good outcome.. ....
    • Day 358 - More fullswing work, this time with the addition of the Divot Board.
