Day 116 (26 Aug 24) - worked thru the 'somewhat vintage’ bag today - TA845s Silver Scot irons, TM R580 driver, SLDRs 3HL and Callaway Diablo 3h - at the net in the backyard.  As I have not hit these in a while, it was a let’s get a feel for these irons again session.  After a few moments I realized just why I still like these irons, as to me they are still sweet swinging clubs.  Will be using these in the monthly nine hole super ball round tomorrow.

Day 662, August 26, 2024

Practiced for 35 minutes or so, and then played 17 holes (we skipped a group on 6) with @DrizZzY. Hit a few killer good shots. A hybrid here, a pair of drives. An 8I on the last hole. Etc.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Day 16:

Worked on backswing a little bit and then spent the rest of my time on downswing. It was too dark for recording swings or setting up Mevo+

Day 117 (27 Aug 24) - Monthly men’s group outing nine hole super ball.  Had grandson playing in our threesome - kid carried us on the greens as he made five 1 putts for 4 pars and 1 birdie - average distance was 10’.   For me it was a solid round of ball striking with the 845s Silver Scots, TM R580, etc.  Now if I could only putt like my grandson…we finished 1 under with no bogies, 8 pars and 1 birdie.

Day 664, August 28, 2024

HackMotion work yesterday (left wrist a bit funky) after failed ecobee installation (zone board incompatible) and going to spend three hours of off-and-on practice today (mixed with watching some S2M videos).

Day 118 (28 Aug 24) - Easy day with some of the clubs hitting into the net in the backyard.  Worked on setup and takeaway process.  Kept most swings to 1/2 swings as the focus was getting consistent contact on the ball with the club face.

Day 249: 8/28/24

Range session after discussing swing with coach yesterday. Felt like I hit the ball really well. Worked on a wider swing, and staying on my front post. Hit more crisp iron shots than I have been hitting.

Day 42: Mirror work. Checked that the grip was better with my right hand. Then worked on hinging the wrists a bit earlier in the backswing. I need to focus more on mirror work in season, because I think this was really helpful.

    • Day 13. September 13th. 2024 Okay so today was putting drills on the mat day. I used gates, and I used the putting mirror. Finally I finished up but using the perfect putt.
    • Woof - fascinating question. So I think it’s a question of whether it’s easier to transition a good iron swing to the driver or a good driver swing to the irons. Speaking personally (which is really all I have to go on) I’ve typically throughout my life been a better iron player but my driving has improved massively lately with my iron play getting a bit worse.    I think it’s probably easier to get your irons better if you’re a good driver than the other way but I’d say it’s pretty close. Took me years and a lot of work to get my driving better again. But I’m about 60% certain if that. I’d be very unsurprised if I’m wrong. I would obviously defer to people who’ve seen both and worked with both.    I’ve heard both sides of it. Driver being longer means you have more time to fix stuff, but you have a smaller margin for error because more side spin to back spin with driver so it moves more if your impact conditions are off. Can also get away with more variance in club delivery with driver (since you have a tee) vs iron where ground impact is very destructive. I suspect at the end of the day the answer really is “it depends”.
    • Day 265: 9/13/24 Practiced prior to tournament today. Good session.
    • Imagine you have two players, identical as they can be without this being a parallel universes type situation, and both are… let's go with 9 handicaps. They're both 30 years old, no physical limitations, etc. One, we'll call him Ricky Bobby, is comparatively a great driver of the golf ball. The other, let's call him Shivas, is relatively a great iron player. Let's say their short game and putting are identical, so their "Create a Player" stats would look something like this: Driver (Ricky): OTT - 80/100 App - 50/100 ATG - 65/100 Putt - 65/100 Irons (Shivas): OTT - 50/100 App - 80/100 ATG - 65/100 Putt - 65/100 This kind of assumes that maybe 65/100 is a 9 handicap level Create a Player. Now, here's the question: If both players put in an equal amount of work with an equally qualified instructor, in a year, which player will be shooting better scores, and why? You also get to assume they only work on the full swing, and their short game and putting remain a constant 65/100 (or they both go up to 70/100, or whatever, but it isn't a differentiator between them). To put it another way, Ricky Bobby and Shivas play 10 matches over a variety of courses at the end of the year: who wins the total match? Why? I have an answer, but I'm going to hold off on sharing what I think for a little while.
