Day 91 - 2024-12-30

Feeling like shit, so… just did about ten minutes after helping Natalie out with the full swing and putting using the HackMotion.

Day 240 (30 Dec 24) - last time at the course for the year…played the front nine with my good friend Mike.  Nothing special - middle of the road 4 of 7 fairways hit, 4 of 9 GIR, putting could have been better - as 3 of the 4 GIR resulted in bogie 3 putts.  Such is the rolling of the rock….

Day 21: 12/31/2024

I got in a long range session today. I decided to use the time to see how well my new swing changes are sinking in.

Today was almost all "Random Practice". I've been doing pretty much all block practice for the last couple weeks. Trying to work on my new PPJ swing. So, I hit PW, 8I, 6I, 5W, and driver in random order. Only hitting one ball per and then switching clubs. So, still pretty much working on the same things I've been working on, but switching clubs after each shot.

Overall, mixed results. I still have some work to do.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 241 (31 Dec 24) - last session of the year.  Worked with the 54 wedge focusing on not decelerating in the downswing thru the ball.  Much better distance control, ball checked well.  Good session…

Day 92 - 2024-12-31

Feel like crap, but stayed after lessons and hit about 30 to 35 golf balls just focusing on the backswing stuff. I'm going to do some HackMotion measurements soon and go from there. If the backswing stuff is good, I'll begin working on the downswing, with check-ins. If not, I'll spend another week or two.

Day 22: 1/1/2025

Had a long range session yesterday. The range was closed today so I got to do a bunch of practice in front of the mirror. Mostly slow motion, but some fast swings too. I've been using a mark on the mirror to see if my head is moving all over the place and so far it doesn't seem to be, so that seems good. I also made special notice of how open or closed the club face is during my back swing and even my down swing. Feels like I may be over-doing the closed face at the top, but I haven't really seen that in the ball flight, so I'll keep an eye on it.

Day 93 - 2025-01-01

Didn't feel great, so continued the backswing work. Will try to start the HackMotion work/check-in tomorrow to see if I might begin with the downswing.

Day 242 (1 Jan 25) - Club had their annual black-eyed peas 2-person superball tournament today.  Partnered up with the chief greenskeeper’s dad (we play well off each other).  We placed 3rd in our flight - missed some key putts and got too greedy on a few holes.  Still a solid day of play and a great way to kick off the year.

Day 23: 1/2/2025

Had a great range session today. It was downright frigid this morning at the range, but the overhead heater made it tolerable. I started off working on my PPJ swing thought. Some slower, swings, somewhat exaggerating the movements. Then I switched focus and just hit the 6-iron about a half dozen times without thinking. I filmed two of these swings to send to Yoda.

After that, I worked my way up and down the bag (random practice... yay.) Hitting one shot with each club aiming at a specific target. I tried to focus on where and not how. Over all, I was pretty impressed with my results.

If you categorize each shot as either good, bad or good enough. I would say nearly all of them were either in the good or good enough category. Again, yay.

I'm going to do some more mirror work tonight, looking at my videos I think I can still improve what I'm doing. But over all, I was really happy with today's range session. I feel like I've had a giant leap forward in my swing. We shall see if the progress can continue.

Yay.

Going to give this a try for a while and see if it sticks.

    • I think it's just to provide clarity. If you marked your ball with a pebble or a small twig, that's a loose impediment, and someone else could move it. An "obstruction" or a man-made thing, or an artificial thing, isn't a loose impediment.
    • Day 243 (2 Jan 25) - Grandson directed drills today - he wanted to hit easy pitches into the holes of the Martin bird house (had it at ground level) - it is doable but it calls for a perfectly executed shot.  He came close a couple of times.  For me it’s about distance control and such.  Drill two - me hit same foam balls to him while he’s in the swing saucer - into a slight wind…now it’s distance control plus anticipating the wind.  A fun exercise - got really close on a number of shots.  Drill three - take his youth Cobra SW and hit flops into to the foam ball basket while he was holding it. Great eye-hand work for him - wedge control for me.  That little wedge  works well.  By the end my junior coach was done and I was too….
