Day 567 - 2026-04-21

Had a break between a GEARS lesson and a high school girl, so… moved the mirror over and made some swings. Also got some distance wedge work in and some chipping work in.

Day 14, April 22.  This morning, before going to work, I took the time to hit two dozen balls (indoors, off the mat, into the net), all with a 6-iron.  As before, this was focused on the pelvis separation and the length of the backswing -- yesterday's video view was encouraging that I'm making progress.

Day 244 4-22

Still working on wrist arch and more separation between hips and chest in backswing. Started adding more speed tonight.

Day 568 - 2026-04-22

Created a 33-minute playlist and paused it while I stopped. I mostly did some backswing and a little downswing work with the mirror. This got me most of the way through the playlist, so then I chopped for a good 15 or 20 minutes.

Day 45 (22 Apr 26) - good friend wanted to play the Weds shootout. Glad we did as I had the most consistent round in a while - 38/41 for a 79 (first sub 80 in months): 27 putts, 9 pars (7 were up and down 1 putts), 8 bogies, 1 birdie and 0 dbls or worse!  This is the 1st full round where I’ve not had at least one dbl (or worse) and 0 penalties.  I also came 1 hole from having “no sixes” (bogied the par five 16th).  All the drills came together today for a solid round.

Day 25: range and putting session. Worked about an hour at the range. Filmed a bit - think some progress but need more. Then went and worked on putts within 10 feet for about 20 minutes.

Day 15, April 23.  I have spent over an hour hitting balls today in my practice area;  primarily 6-iron, the usual drill.  I have noticed that when I take a backswing and check the mirror, I've stopped well short of parallel, but when I record it, I'm getting to parallel.  Maybe something quantum is going on?

Day 245 4-23

worked on slight cup in backswing and arching in downswing. Having a slight cup in my backswing makes a big difference for me right now. Hit foam balls, recorded swings.

Day 569 - 2026-04-23

Played ten holes. Hit about three good shots, but only one with the old left wrist stuff. The rest were just peelers to the right because the face was open. So, progress.

Day 26: first night range session of the year! Worked with slow swings on the twist and roll. A lot of rehearsals, too. Very productive, and much happier than yesterday.

Day 46 (24 Apr 26) - skipped yesterday’s post (though I did work the irons and setup a bit) - today played the Friday shootout with the men’s grp.  Came away with some takeaways I want to work on during the next few days.

    • I think he was at some point (5-6 cups ago) but DL III beat him to it and then at some point it was too late. If I had a vote, he would still get it.

    • So the 75 yard 8 iron is probably not something you'd want to use regularly. It's potentially useful for keeping it under branches or if you have a reason you need it to run a lot after it lands, but for a regular shot that will have so little stopping power as to not be particularly controllable. Especially if you have a 75 yard shot with your 54. The shots as you vary distance and club will change in carry/roll, height and landing angle. Really useful to have more than one club for a given yardage for things like skipping it up a tier or landing one softly near the front of the green, but there are limits to that. In general I don't think you'd want to be hitting an 8 iron shorter than your "full" 9 iron distance and so on up the bag. Keep those partial shots to your wedges.
    • Now that we’re hearing that Jim Furyk has been tapped for a second captaincy, I have a genuine question that I don’t have an answer to. Why has my avatar David Toms never gotten a captaincy of anything? Has he ever even been a vice-captain? He’s a major winner with ten other Top Tens in majors. Senior major winner, too. Played on three Ryder Cup teams and four Presidents Cup teams. Is there bad blood here or something? 🤔
    • Older thread, I realize.  I'm throwing the idea of purchasing Hack Motion 3, the older version.   Is it a worthy investment for a 15 handicap that plays twice per week and practices twice per week?    I have to convince my boss!
