Day 665, August 29, 2024

Well, today may be the day my streak ends, except that I might hit some putts tomorrow to get to 666. I don't want to talk about it, but my left thumb is pretty f***ed up right now and I'm contemplating how long it would take me to get good at playing golf lefty.

Day 119 (29 Aug 24) - Played the weekly 9 hole round with my good friend, however I played the other nine on my own.  Focused on reading the break on the greens - trying a little aim point technology.  Very rudimentary in applying l, but I did have much more consistent rolls of the putter….need to explore this more.

Day 666, August 30, 2024

To get to day 666, where this current run will end, I've decided that for me, today, watching some instructional videos in bed while doing little else is sufficient. I'm doing a decent job of not searching the web and playing doctor.

Here we go again.

Day 1: 8/30/2024:
I was at the range today. Worked on mostly hand path. Tends to be something I struggle with off and on and need to continually reinforce. Pretty much worked with every club in the bag. I finished up by hitting the last dozen balls at a number of different wedge targets. It was like a million degrees outside so that was a pretty good day.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 44: played 18. Pretty solid and ho-hum 76. Knocked off another hole on the birdie challenge, too.

Day 120 (30 Aug 24) - Friday Men’s golf…had a solid 81 (41 / 40).  It was a solid day of solid pars - had 9 pars, 9 bogies.  Using the Aim Point base principles resulted in solid starts that finished less than 2’ from the hole for stress free pars and easy bogies.  Of course I blew several easy birdie attempts where I choked with the speed. Really liking the early results of the process, will keep working it.

Day 232 - Tee time at my favorite course, Bear Dance, this weekend. So how do I start the day? By breaking my toe playing basketball.

I’m optimistic that it’s just a sprain, but still frustrating. I managed to get some chipping in between RICE.

Day 252: 8/31/24

Day 121 (31 Aug 24) -  Nip and roll drills with the 50deg wedge.  Set up between 5 and 10 yds from the backyard pins.  Goal was to have the balls finish with 6’ radius of the pin.  Hit groups of six balls - did well as the average finish was well within 2’ of the pins.  Solid confidence builder session.

Day 2: 8/31/2024

Spent 15 minutes in the mirror today with a piece of PVC and my 7 iron. All backswing stuff. Slow motion.

Spent a little bit of time chipping some ping pong balls around the basement.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
