I play to about a 15 and use the Titleist NXT Tour.  Any thoughts from those that have actually played the Titleist TruSoft on the course with regards to driving distance, movement of the ball in the air, and feel around the greens (and possibly compare to the NXT if they've used it?)

I played new TruSoft and DT Solo for the last part of the summer. It was the best golf I've ever played. They are soft but not too soft - feels like you can really crush them. They definitely don't "click" like harder balls do. Anyway, I guess it depends on your swing speed, but I really like them, and esp. the price <$20. I can afford to stay in new balls for that price. They do release on the green more than 3 piece balls, so you have to plan on walking them up a little bit. They don't stick like velco, like more expensive balls do. They release a couple 2-4 feet even when you are chipping/pitching. Not a big deal to me, because as of right now I only hit 4-5 greens a round. I love the feel off the putter. It feels like it has good "weight".

I have a slower swing speed (Driver 85-88 mph) for reference.  I have tried the original Tru Soft and the most recent version and it is plenty long and surprisingly good around the greens for a 2 piece surlyn ball.  I played the NXT for years until I tried the Gamer V2 and then a number of ball including Gamer Tour, Maxfli U/3, and Gamer Soft.  I found the NXT to be somewhat shorter for my swing compared to the DT Tru Soft, and prefer the feel of the softer Tru Soft around the green.   If you like the softer golf balls I have found that the Gamer Soft and the e6 Soft good options and if you have a slower swing speed and just want to add some yardage the Softfli and SuperSoft are a lot of fun but roll out more on the fairways (which I like) and the greens (be careful!).  But if it has to say Titleist, the Tru Soft is reasonably priced and for my game a better ball than the NXT.

At the relatively low price point they are at, I recommend getting a dozen of each and trying them out and seeing which works best for your game. Different people like to see and feel different things with regards to ball flight, spin, etc. Plus the environment and courses you play in have an impact too. If the greens are very soft and receptive, you might want a different ball compared to someone who plays on very firm and hard greens.

I used DT Solo for years as my primary ball. I still like them. The Wilson Duo is a very soft ball at a similar price point. I picked up a few dozen on clearance at a ridiculous price- like $8 per dozen. I like it about as much as the DT.

I like the NXT ok, but have never used it much as the price point never hit the sweet spot for me. I can get ProV1 practice for usually 5 bucks per dozen less. The only problem is that they are usually mixed with ProV1x, which if you want really soft feel you might not like as much.

During the holidays, I picked up 3 dozen regular ProV1s for about $30 per dozen. They were on promo for 39 and I had some coupons.

In my neck of the woods the NXT is usually around $35, so more expensive than any of the options I have listed.
