So.... learned How to play golf when I was really young never played 1-2 time a year player got obsessive for the last about 9 months. I’m very good for the amount of time played. Usually mid 70s to low 80s on the bad days but I want to get down under par had a few close rounds. (Yes I know it all comes with time just looking for some stuff that really helped people become more competitive I guess)

Assuming you are not looking for professional help, figure out what the weakest part of your game is, and  work on that part. Find the part that is costing you strokes.

However, at the same time, don't neglect the rest of your game. You don't want to fix one part, but lose ground in another part of your game.

The frustrating part is my driver should be the best club in my bad I hit pretty consistent 300+ yard drives no problem but for some reason moved onto the course it’s like I’m back to never playing. Kills me because I have to play scramble golf

Welcome to The Sand Trap!

From what you've shared so far it sounds like off the tee and full swing shots are your weakness (as they are for most people). I recommend working on those. What is your issue with your drives/tee shots? Do you slice everything, hook everything, not enough height, too much O.B. etc.

We need more information to be able to accurately provide tips and advice. The best way to get advice specific to your swing and your game is to post videos of your swing in the "Member Swing" section of this site. Please read the information and make sure the camera angles are solid, it helps people provide better and more accurate advice.

I highly recommend keeping stats either on your scorecard or with an app like GameGolf or Arccos. Things like GIR %  and putts per round would be the two stats I would start with if you dont want to get an app to track everything. That will give you an even better picture of where your weaknesses are. Example, you might feel that driving is your weakness, but if you are averaging 40 putts per round and only 25% GIR, then clearly your putting and approach shots need work as well.

You said you typically shoot mid 70s to low 80s, those are very respectable scores, and I know you are looking to be more competitive, but with those scores you are already better that the majority of amateur golfers. Just something to keep in mind as you try to improve :-)

If the tee ball is hurting you maybe not trying to hit it 300 yards would help?... 280-290 is fine most of the time..

Other than that, i cant say much besides getting consistent with your fundamentals first, whatever those are for you. Be it grip alignment etc. Once those are tidy you can dissect the swing a little more. A swing change isn't going to help you much if you're aimed 10 yards off from what you're looking at.

What GV posted. They say 80% of your fastest swing speed works best. In some instances, 70% might work better.
