Different question about the golf grip.

A guy saw me placing my hands on the club, while holding the club almost vertically, at arms length, probably close to eye level. He asked me what I was doing. He placed his hands on the club, with the club on the ground, after taking his stance.

I was kind of at a loss for words, other than my swing guru years ago told it was a good way to see my grip, and then step into my stance. Once in my stance, a quick check of my club face, and I was ready to go.

I have never really thought about it till he asked me about it. Never really noticed how anyone else took their grip on the club.

So, when do you put your hands on the club?

I like my students to grip it in front of them like you do or pulling it by their left hip like Adam Scott.

I grip it as I’m walking up to the ball to step into my stance.

As I start to address the ball, I grip the club with it extended straight out and parallel to the ground...(I do use a single plane swing so it would be different than a multi-plane swing).  Hope that makes sense.

I sole the club on the ground by my left hip and get my left hand set, before walking up to the ball and taking my stance.  As I take my stance I put my right hand on.
