I’ve got an 11 year old son that is growing like a weed. He is currently 5’ and seems to eat all day long and grow non-stop. He went to the course with me Friday and has starting showing an increase interest in golf. I’ve got an old set of clubs in my garage he has been playing with since Friday.  He has to grip down to the bottom of the grips but when he does that the lie seems to be right. The club heads appear to be a little heavy for him and I’m sure the shafts would be to stiff also. Would I be better off buying a set of youth clubs that he will probably out grow in the next year or let him keep using the set I’ve got. I don’t want him to develop any bad habits because of swinging a club thats to heavy.

The correct isn't in line with the cheap answer.  I also have an 11 year old and we last year purchased a Cobra Driver for him and they come with one Free Shaft upgrade.  Well worth the money as he instantly picked up 20 yards past his old Top Flight Driver.  This year I just purchased him a set of Irons from Flynn Golf who specilaizes in junior clubs.  They were $235 but he cut the shafts .5 inches longer to allow for more growth.  Just for back ground I am 6'4" and my 11 year old is just above average size and built like he is going to be taller than I.  I tried a ladies set for him and the heads were just to heavy for him to get around, and he has a well developed swing and competes in a couple of leagues and tournaments.  The Flynn golf was fantastic and I highly recommend them.  Top Flight has sets as well that are in a few sizes for around $100.  Cobra has sets as well that are more but as stated above I feel they are worth the expense.  We will look at using the clubs for neices and nephew's and Grand children.  That is the best advice I can give.

Thanks for the tips. After posting this we bought him a set of Wilson youth clubs that fit him well.  He has 2 younger brothers to hand them down to when he out grows them. I watched him swing my hand me downs again before deciding to make the purchase and they were clearly to heavy.

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
