I have a stand bag. It does an excellent job, but occasionally I get my clubs tangled in there, esp after a bad shot. SO, I discovered the wonderful plastic tubes that would keep each club separate.

Upon seeing it, my friends said that they have tried it and it scratches the shaft of your clubs.

Is this true? Any opinions?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen a set of graphite-shafted irons that my father-in-law has and they all had a ring or slight groove in them where they rub against the lip of the tube. I don't imagine they would affect steel shafts, though.

I wouldn't do it... I have also heard they scratch up graphite shafts. Plus they make the bag heavier. Plus they look a little silly. If you really want the clubs in their own individual slot, get that type of bag.

-just my 2 cents

Thanks for your input guys.

1) I have steel shafts, so I would guess that it wouldn't be affected.

2) I can't imagine it making the bag heavier. They are so light.

However, I do agree that it makes the bag look silly and I should probably just pick up a cart bag, since I have a push cart and almost never actually carry my bag, except to the driving range.

With steel shafts...it still leaves a swirls mark in the long run. Seen it on my Dad's clubs. I have also seen it on putters that people have placed into the external putter well on their bags. I am so anal retentive...that I don't stick my putter in the external club well on my cart bag for that reason.

As for making it heavier....oh yeah. You are not talking about one tube...but some 10+ tubes. The solution that you need is to look for a golf bag that has FULL length separators. That way you will perhaps place say two to three clubs in each well...and unlikely that they will at all tangle. And if you really want to separate them...I seen some bags that have 14 distinct well.

The new ping lattitude has a larger opening than I have seen on any carry bags out there, it is their new bag for the year. There are 5 spots for clubs and you shouldn't have trouble getting them in and out.

plastic tubes are great for blowing into with the accompanying sound that has a meditative quality sound like a didgeridoo, at least carry one in your bag

the plastic tube idea is a bad one. A couple of my buddies tried them and their grips got in pretty rough shape, especially where we golf in the rain fairly often.

Try standing the bag upright.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
