I've been messing around with my swing a little trying to promote more lag. It's working for me a little, but the more lag I get, the more I feel my right arm is really just along for the ride. As it stands right now, I'm kind of using my pointer and middle finger of my right hand to lift the head and set the wrist cock about half way up the downswing and from then on it just feels like it follows the left arms lead. It's really helping me collapse the right arm on the way up, as my old swing I felt as though my right and wrist were too dominant and held back my wrist cock and gave me a really shallow downswing. It feels a little weird right now, but I'm getting pretty good results and I can truely feel a lot more lag in the downswing.

I just wondered how many people actually kind of feel the same thing, to see if I was on the right track to what most are doing/feeling.

I haven't gained or lost any distance, but wondered if that would hinder any extra distance I may be able to achieve.

I would hope your right arm isn't pushing your left arm down on the downswing because I don't know how I would be able to hit the ball if that was the case. Your hips power through followed by, and forcing, your left hand to sweep through the ball, in my opinion th eright arm is there for balance and power rather than guiding.

I use to be right arm dominant in my swing which led to inconsistent and a myriad of problems that would creap into my swing. My irons were okay, although chunks and hitting it then were somewhat commonplace. My driver, however, was widely out of control and I had no confidence with it. I finally disciplined myself to taking the right arm out of my swing (which means I stopped trying to kill the ball), and the results spoke for themselves. My mishits are much less common, and can actually hit the driver with some control and consistency.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
