Guys, I'm a bit confused about all the shafts available and hope you can help me narrow them down.

Currently playing stiff. I have a lot of spin and a high trajectory. Looking for more accuracy and have read some about PX 6.5 or maybe 7.0?

Some average stats with roll:

Driver: 310 yards

4 iron: 240 yards

5 iron: 230 yards

PW: 160 yards.

Driver: Cobra F9 Speedback 9*, Hzrdus Black 6.5 44.5"
Fairway: Cobra F9, 14.5*, Hzrdus Smoke 6.5
Irons: Cobra F8 4, KBS C-Taper X. Cobra 2019 Forged cb/mb 4-Pw, KBS C-Taper X
Wedges: Cobra King Black 50* & 58*, KBS C-Taper S+

Welcome!  The best thing to do would be to get fitted into a shaft.  KBS makes great shafts, PX is a great shaft, Dynamic Gold also has some great shafts.  Not knowing your swing speed, but able to guestimate based on the numbers you provided, I am thinking you should be in an X flex shaft.

Take a look at KBS c-tapers. It's a low spin, low launch shaft that suits faster swingers.

Can't go wrong with Dynamic Gold, either.

Wow! Those are like PGA Tour pro numbers. With those numbers you should def. stick with stiff shafts. My driver is 240 avg., 5 iron is 165 avg., and PW is 110 avg.

I disagree with just stiff shafts.  I don’t think stiff would be enough based on his numbers and the SS associated with those numbers.  Some people can hit the ball a long way, but have no course management skills.

Yeah a fitting would be best, to see numbers.

X-stiff yes. I mean 6.5 is a x-stiff and 7.0 is a x-stiff+.

I'm more about if 6.5 maybe not stiff enough? Or x100 for that matter.

Yeah a friend told me about c-tapers. That they might work for me.

But low lunch and low spin sounds Good.

Well my coach didnt understand much when I as a 14 year old hit drives 330yards+. I'm only 174cm so maybe 5'9?

But now 18 years later I want accuracy so x-stiff is the way to go 😃

So looking at KBS website, they say I should have c-taper X 130gram.

And from looking at frequencies and comparing shafts, the c-taper seem to be 7.2 with a low launch and low spin, which would suit me.

Compared to project X 6.5 that has 7.0 frequency.

Gonna get s custom fitting. Thanks guys!

You are hitting it longer than the pros; maybe you need extra stiff.  Here are the distance averages for the pros copied off the Leaderboard webite.  PGA pros almost all use stiff or xtra stiff.

According the Leaderboard website, PGA Tour players' average 4-iron shots travel 210 to 220 yards(including the roll). They can hit 5-iron shots 195 to 205 yards; 6-iron shots 180 to 190 yards; 7-iron shots 165 to 180 yards; 8-iron shots 150 to 170 yards; and 9-iron shots 140 to 155 yard

Yeah, my 7-iron swingspeed is 8mph more than the average 7-iron of PGA pros. Ofcourse there are players with the same speed and more.

I went with the C-taper X from kbs.

Now I hit my long-Irons a bit further, but much more controlled and less dispersion.

Changed all of my shafts to X-stiff. Works really well 🙂

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
