Removing Lead Tape

I'm considering testing a Callaway XR16 driver head against my Great Big Bertha, but the issue is that my shaft is 3/4" shorter than stock and the GBB head is hot melted.  So if I put my shaft on the XR head, I'm guessing the swing weight will be way off.  I could easily add lead tape to it to match swing weights but if I pass on the XR, will the tape come off easily?  I'd be borrowing it from my brother who, while not all that into golf, probably wouldn't be a fan of all the ugly tape stuck on there.  I'm also open to other suggestions for adding temporary weight.

When I put lead tape on a club, I put it on to stay there. I have tape on my SW that's going on 15 years, give or take a few. 

I have removed lead tape by "carefully" using a grinding wheel to remove most of it, then finishing it off by using steel wool. This is a very quick way to remove the tape. However, when using a grinding wheel, great care needs to be taking so as not to damage the club itself. 

Only takes a couple minutes, or less.

Lead tape comes off very easily, that is kind of the point. You can go one piece at a time and build it up. There is no need for any grinding! Just get a roll of lead tape and place it on the back or bottom of the club. Just stick it on, don't try and mash it into the crevices. If you need to remove it, just pull it off. If it needs a little help use a hairdryer for a minute to heat the adhesive. Worst case, you may have to remove a little adhesive residue with some solvent.

Ok, two very different answers there.  So it's somewhere between 'having to grind it off' and 'it peels right off' haha.  If it does peel off, I have no problem using a little goo-off to get some leftover adhesive off.

Also, I'm not above putting a bunch of duct tape on the bottom of the club head for the day just to get the weight right.

New lead tape will not be a problem. Yes, if you have had tape on for 15 years then its soft nature will start to mold into the club from the constant banging together of clubs but new tape is not an issue. I own a repair shop and worked as a club maker for Golfsmith for 3 years and have literally used pounds of lead tape. If you can pull off duct tape, you can pull off lead tape.

This makes sense.  Turns out it will actually be a while before I can get my hands on the XR head so I'll have time to mull this over.  Thanks for the responses!

constant tinkerer that I am, my practice is not limited to cobbling training aids together. To wit;' I have used nickels and painters' tape. A nickel weighs 5 grams and you get 2 swing weight points for every gram, therefore 2 nickels will permit a swing weight change of 5 pts. Example would be changing a C7 to a D2.  conversely you can purchase lead tape strips or a roll from Dick's for around $9, it is easily cut to size, comes off easily.
