Crazy question. Can how far you stand from the ball affect your distance? I know where the placement in the stance(forward, backward, middle) will affect trajectory and maybe distance. Lately I have been standing so close to the ball, practically over it and hitting mile high iron shots. Great for landing on the green. Yet it seems I am not hitting my irons as long as I used to. Could be age? Could be not enough body rotation.  Would standing farther from the ball help me with distance? Yes, I can experiment at the range, yet looking for opinions.

Higher shots would suggest you are either presenting higher dynamic loft at impact, or producing higher spin rates.

Higher dynamic loft will produce a lower smash factor because more loft causes a more glancing blow. Also, higher loft doesn't mean you produce optimal trajectory numbers with regard to distance.

Yes, you could be sacrificing distance by hitting higher shots.

I recommend starting a My Swing thread. https://thesandtrap.com/forums/forum/13-member-swings/

Hard to say what is going on with out seeing your swing.
