Seems like he's saying one thing and doing another to me.

This is a common occurrence and has occurred with the some of the greatest names in golf. This is why it's best to determine if what an instructor says is mechanically correct and if what they are showing is just an exaggeration or if they're just plain full of it. However, you need to learn what certain terms and phrases actually mean before making that conclusion.

Thank you @Vinsk I'll definitely work on increasing my knowledge of terms. Make sense that would be a big help.

I feel like I'm actually more of a "one plane" swinger. Looking at some video it seems that is the case. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I really cannot hit any kind of fade and my misses are usually the block right. I would like to hit a fade sometimes but I also don't want to screw up my swing trying to move to a different (two plane?) swing. Does a two plane swing generate more club speed? I'm wondering if I'm losing some power by not having a two plane swing.

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)
Odyssey two ball putter (white)

Two plane swings theoretically:

  • Have a higher top end.
  • Require more maintenance.

I heard someone describe a two-plane swing as a Lamborghini, and the one-plane swing as the Honda Accord. The latter works just fine, and is reliable. The former requires a ton of maintenance but, when it works, it really works.

But… that's a pretty rough generalization, and each player is bound to have a swing pattern that likely fits them best, both anatomically but also mentally and from a practice/performance perspective.

    • I have one and look forward to trying this. I bought the Stack Radar and developed pretty severe tennis elbow, likely from a new workout program, prior to receiving it, and have not used it very much. Asa competitive person, I respond well to gamifying practice. That’s why I also love using the Stack putting app. Two great incremental benefits of the program.
