  1. I have often wondered what type of person is so disrespectful as to not to repair a pitch mark. Thanks to tracksters comments I now know! I talked to the assistant super the other day as he was working on greens. He said he repairs around 8 marks on every green each morning. Also said that courses that have more casual or recreational golfers have a higher instance of this (as this course is). He also has worked in golf communities where the golfers tend to be more serious about their game. This type of golfer tends to care more about the condition of the course, according to him. The assistant has also worked in the people part of the game as a course pro. He had some very interesting insight coming from two ends of the golf business! I also play a course where they employ a young guy to ride around the course, during the day, to repair ball marks. He has a tool that is about knee high with handles, that he puts over the mark and pushes down. Not sure how it works, but it did a great job! Just a shame they have to result to this because of idiots who are too sorry to fix their marks!!!
  2. I played as a single today on a nice course that was not crowded at all. I started noticing un-repaired ball marks right away. After 6 holes I caught up to 2 nubs that were in need of some lessons on golf etiquette. I made sure I repaired all the marks I noticed. I figured I could get ahead of them at the turn, but they never slowed down. They never did let me play through. Funny thing is, I think the slow play forced me to slow my usual fast pace down to where it actually helped me! Played pretty decent!
  3. I have gone to my home course with a new putter to try out on occasion. While there, I usually buy some range balls to cancel out any guilty feelings of free use of their putting green. I have never seen anyone on the practice green with any training tools for putting. Now I would really feel awkward doing this.
  4. I keep a spare ball and tees in my right pocket and a repair tool in left pocket. I also always take my glove off to putt. Also take my wallet out of my pocket and put in my bag.
  5. To each is own, but it doesn't bother me to use a bag that doesn't match your clubs. I have a Nike stand bag and use Mizuno irons, TaylorMade driver, Callaway 3 wood and Walter Hagen hybrids. I do have a weird thing about wearing hats that are what I play though!
  6. Hey NuclearMike! Interesting story you have. Man do you ever need to slow down with the work and take more time for golf! I know, easier said than done! I am in construction and I have to roll when then work is there, so I understand where you are coming from. Cool avatar you have, I'm sure there is an interesting story behind it! I am follicly challenged myself. I am going to guess that it means grass doesn't grow on a busy street! LOL Anyway, Glad to have you aboard and look forward to updates on your progress.
  7. I work in the heat and sun everyday so playing golf in the heat doesn't seem that bad. Played 27 yesterday when it was 104. I would hate to guess the heat index. I really love the fact that the course is a lot less crowded too! Best time to play, while the heat sensitive are home watching golf! On a side note, the wife texts me while we are playing and says the AC is acting up. I get home to a cool 84 inside the house!
  8. It helps to have a playing partner that you are willing to listen to when he gives course management advice. I hit a bad tee shot off of a par 5 today that left me about 225 out with trees to contend with on my right. My first thought was 3 wood and try to shape a shot around the trees. My buddy knowing that I probabaly wouldn't pull it off, suggested I hit a safe shot that would leave me about 100 yards out. I did and then hit a beaut of an approach shot that netted a birdy! I probably saved 2 or 3 strokes on that hole alone by playing smart.
  9. I shot an 87 today. The sweet part was that I beat my buddy for the first time ever! (92) I was also glad that I hit my 3 wood good for the first time all year. I tried standing further away from the ball and hit it much better.
  10. To each is own, but I would just use the mid-size grips. I use mid-size grips and install them myself. More tape is more time and money.
  11. A buddy of mine had the same trouble with a Diablo Edge. He had been playing an R5 TaylorMade that he was very accurate with. We played in a 4 man superball tournament last month and he didn't have a drive in the fairway the whole day. He gave it some time, but he never could keep from slicing with it. He finally traded it and got a Cobra that he is hitting straight.
  12. I have about 5 acres and can hit about 280 yards before going onto my neighbors property. I usually hit shag balls every day. I have improved my game tremendously because of this. I would not be going to the range as often if it wasn't as convenient. For markers I put up 5' pieces of pvc spaced apart 25 yards starting at 75 yards. Sometimes when I'm picking up balls, I will take my 52* and chip to a marker. My short game really improved since starting this. I have friends who never go to the range. Myself, I can't get better just playing a round of golf without the rangefor practice. Heck, I would put in a putting green if they weren't so expensive/hard to maintain!
  13. That photo captured a great moment. TaylorMade will probably be using it in an advertisement before long!
  14. I got back into golf about this time last year from a break of about 20 years. I've got a buddy who has played for years and we have played regularly since I took it back up. He usually shoots in the low 80's and many times in the 70's. I am improving, but started out scoring in the high 90's to low 100's. Thank goodness he has been patient with me. I live in the country and have several acres to practice on. I usually hit balls every evening, trying get my swing to what I want it to be. My buddy has a group he has played with for years on Friday afternoons and he continues to do so. I am greatful to him for putting up with me. The difference I see between me and the OP's friend is I have had a willingness to improve.
  15. I have been playing Infiniti 302 irons for about a year. Cavity back, GI that are strong lofted and plenty of offset. I had been looking into some new irons and had thought about getting some JPX-800's. A set of Mizuno MP 60's came up on Craigslist that caught my eye but I missed out on them. Well, I decided to do some research on them and found out they are a pretty forgiving. I decided to see if I could find a set on Ebay cheap enough that I could give them a try and not regret it if they were not for me. I was able to get a set of MP 60's for $119 that is 5-PW. Great shape, standard length. I added an inch to the length and re-gripped with GP Tour Wrap Mid-size. I have really been pleased with how well they feel! Man, are they sweet! They are not lofted as strong as my other irons, but the yardage seems to be close to the same. I have not had a chance to play a round of golf with them yet, but have hit 100-150 balls each evening with them. Can't wait to get them to the course! Just wondering if anyone else is playing MP 60's and what your thoughts are on them.
  16. When Carl pulled off another "clutch" shot out of the fairway bunker onto the green, Will's comment was priceless! "Carl is the best worst golfer I know". Glad to see Kent and David in the finals. I think it would have been wrong for the winner to have been someone who would have embarrased themselves at the Zurich.
  17. I did not realize "John Holmes" was a golfer. Seems like he did swing a club though! Sorry, couldn't resist!
  18. I agree with Carl about the some players haven't been tested comment. Will and Kent have neither had any tests yet. The "challenges" they have done well in to keep them out of elimination rounds have not showcased what they have or have not as far as talent. I think we saw a little bit of what Will has got last night. I wish they would put them all in 1 on 1 challenges for a few holes of real golf like Carl and Shank faced last night. That shows more what a player has got.
  19. Congrats on the Eagle! I don't know how you did it with 5 guys watching like that! I usually rush through a situation like that, and really goof up. I've never had an Eagle myself. I chipped one to 2 inches the other day.Just can't seem to get everything to come together at the right time!
  20. Nuck, I agree with you. In today's society, many people think it is not PC to discuss anything dealing with religion in public for fear of offending someone. I was glad KJ was not afraid to state his belief in Jesus!
  21. I'm pulling for Russell since he's one of us on The SandTrap! I think there is a good mix on there this season. I think "Shank" is going to be one to pull for also. He seems like an interesting nut! There seems to be more ego's this time around.

    Pet Peeves

People who would rather look golf balls than play. I fell in with a twosome the other day. One of the guys pulled out his ball retriever at every water hole and proceeded to walk around them retrieving balls. No one was behind us, but he did hold up me and the other guy. I almost lost it when he said he had probably 700 balls at home he had found last year!
  23. I'm playing without a glove too. Started it a couple of months ago and kind of wonder what it is going to be like when hot weather gets here. I hope I will be able to hold onto the club. I find it more comfortable to play without a glove and it seems great not to have to keep up with one! I was always leaving one at the house or in the truck!
  24. While watching the Masters yesterday I could not believe how many putts did not drop for Charl before things really came together for him. I'm talking putts that looke like they were in the cup! He could have had a runaway score! Anyway, what a final day!
  25. I wonder if they are a more traditional pair of Ecco's instead of the Street Premier's? I think he looks more cool in the SP's!
