Do Golf Shoes make much difference?
Silvertree replied to mcecki's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
On perfect in control fairway lies? Probably not that big of a deal if you swing under control. Anything with tricky footing? Yes you will notice. -
Caddyshack.

Which is better for a high handicap: Stiff or flex shafts?
Silvertree replied to waynem80's topic in Golf Talk
Assuming (I don't really like making assumptions) that your swing is remotely like it should be, no you shouldn't have to change it. As far as feel, that really depends on what you are using now. Going from a senior club to a stiff flex is going to feel different until you get used to it for example. -
I agree 100%. Come on, we have to cash on the possibility of a big endorsement deal RIGHT NOW!!! We can't wait for things that aren't needed like maturity, a chance to be a kid, and the like.

Shaft flex isn't a handicap issue. Shaft flex is a swing speed issue. If you are looking for a driver, get fitted at someplace that has a launch monitor. Even if you choose not to by the driver they recommend, it will give you some idea of what shaft flex you need. -
ShotLink Data Article by Dave Pelz
Silvertree replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
314 golfers overall is a big enough sample for statistical power purposes. Normally if you are trying to make generalizations of a large population, 100 is considered OK, if just that, and over 200 is good. I personally would want more people then 75 per group (assuming he had equal group size) if possible but I have read many top tier published journal articles that had similar composition. Please don't confuse political polls with scientific research. I doubt that Shotlink lasers introduce nearly as much error as a poll, even including human error. And political polling error is reported as +/- so you have to keep in mind you are viewing a range. -
Query About Whether to Get Lessons
Silvertree replied to Arsenal Forever's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Here is my two cents. Doesn't matter where you go, you need to evaluate the Pro based on his or her merits, not where they work at. Skill degree will vary no matter where you go. I just read this someplace (Golf Digest maybe?) "Finding a golf pro is like finding a mate". You need to make sure that your personalities mesh. My other concern about taking a lesson in one of the places you mentioned is that both stores almost certainly have cages or simulators you will be hitting in. I love technology, and I like to see all of the stats of a launch monitor, but I think when you are learning the ability to watch the flight path of your ball is invaluable. The only way to see that, is to hit the ball outside. I have taken a lesson at both types of places and I would say the outdoor lessons were much more beneficial. No matter what, I think you benefit from lessons. Good luck. -
I used to play a lot of WoW. I would say I am semi casual now.

When I reply to a thread, it marks every other thread on the board "read". I can't think of a browser setting that would do that. Any ideas Erik?

I don't believe him either. But I appreciate him not blaming his loss on the fact his wife. That is a class act in my opinion. He lost, and he isn't blaming it on anything other then himself. That is the way it should be.
-
He did know his wife was in the hospital. So yeah, I think it affected him.

It's all about optimum launch angle for the person. I don't think there is a general rule of thumb or I have never heard of one.
-
I used Google to search for golf forums.
-
I would go get it checked out. I know how much fun doctors are, but the alternative is worse. In the mean time, I wouldn't play much. I had a left ankle injury two years ago that I tried to play on. It caused me to stop transferring weight like I should. Good luck!

Contemplating the generational differences: Tiger vs. Jack
Silvertree replied to ILLZ's topic in Golf Talk
Not to hijack the thread, but was the competition like for Bobby Jones? How many players was he competing against? -
Get thee to a club fitter with ye old man young lad. That would be the best advice. 54 isn't very senior and he might be able to swing steel. Good luck!

You can't count "what could have been" though. I wish Bobby Jones would have continued to play pro golf as much as anyone, but he didn't continue to play. When looking at the best ever, it would only seem right to consider what they did do over the span of their career, not what they could have done. If you like football, who knows what Bo Jackson could have done if he would have played football full-time and not have been injured. But as it stands he wasn't as great of play as Walter Payton. -
I didn't spend enough time with the CG12 wedge to do a full review. I liked the look of the Vokey better. I hit it a little better. I know I already made a comment, but that is what I got for you. Makes me wish I would have taken more notes.

I didn't say it was an excuse for why he lost. He lost cause he didn't play well enough down the stretch. I am not making excuses for anyone. Even though I consider myself a fan, it had no impact on my life. He lost. Plain and simple. However if you think it didn't affect his concentration at some point through out the day, I think you are wrong. I can't imagine how it couldn't unless he didn't know.

ESPN is reporting Tiger's wife gave birth with-in 24 hours of the US Open's completion. I thought he seemed a little distracted or maybe had a lack of fire while playing Sunday at some points. I know we will never know for sure, but it would be interesting to know if they thought it was a possibility on Sunday.

I don't know what will help her anymore. I can say that I am so tired of hearing about her that there is only one person's name that can make me change the channel faster. Sergio Garcia. Considering my disdain for Garcia that is saying a lot.
-
I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
-
I was thinking the exact same thing. He should stick to his column.
-
I had an opportunity to demo both clubs at the range. I can't put a tangible reason why I preferred the Vokey. I hit it a little better, and prefer the look better.
-
Why would you want low bounce on your sand wedge? There is a thread around about wedge preference, check through that. But I like my Titleist Vokey spin milled sw and so do many others.
