I've got Majors that I bought last year and a pair of Originals on the way. I don't remember what my first pair was but they lasted a long time.

Just bought my third pair of Trues. I really wouldn't consider anything else at this point. They're the most comfortable shoes--not just golf shoes--I've ever worn.

+1 My VA3 works great as an easy and convenient GPS. I like seeing the steps and mileage, too. Its nice sometimes when I hit a good drive and the distance since my last hit shows up on the watch. But it doesn't record each shot consistently enough to be useful for any sort of average or aggregate analysis.

Probably not. But it doesn't cost anything to have them built to the right size.

When I was fitted for my last set they were cut 1/4". The fitter said it helped me find the center of the face more consistently. When I was fitted a few weeks ago the fitter thought that made no sense and fit me for standard length clubs. The standard length of the older clubs were shorter, too, so the difference was a full inch, I think. Maybe 3/4

I've used a Sun Mountain Four5 with 14-way, full length dividers for the past 5 years or so. No complaints at all. I think I'm going to try the Three5 this year though, without the 14-way.

I had a similar experience. I was fit into a Cobra F9 with a $400 Diamana RF Series 50g. I looked up the shaft noted the weight, torque, kickpoint, etc., then looked up the shafts available from Cobra and picked the one with the most similar characteristics. I just got the club yesterday, so I can't tell you if it worked, but that's one idea for you.

I was going to say this, too. I played two rounds at my course before joining and I know that other courses in the area do the same. I dont know that it applies for exclusive courses, though. I'd just call their membership person and ask about the process. They'll either invite you out to play or not.

Do we know how soon after a round any PCC adjustment will take place? And do we know if they will make those adjustments during the off-season?

That's exactly what I did with the driver. I'd be surprised if I felt like the similar shaft wasn't a good fit and I could always buy it later anyway.

Notice the difference? If you're on a launch monitor you will. I certainly saw the difference, sometimes small, sometimes big, between the shafts I tried. For the ones that were similar, I probably couldn't tell the difference on the course, though. Is it worth an extra $400 to make your drive 1% better? Not to me. But if I was better, or richer, it could be. I don't think CC is more expensive than any place else. I think their approach to fitting is to find the absolute perfect fit for you, regardless of the price. So you end up with exotic shafts, and they recommend purring and whatnot.

I got fitted at CC a few weeks ago. Knowing they were expensive to buy from, my intent was to see what was best for me, and then go buy somewhere else. Ended up with an iron/shaft combo that's not available from the mfg. So I'd have to buy the clubs, also buy shafts, and pay CC to assemble. It was a standard brand shaft, so I assumed at the time that it was going to be available with my irons and didn't ask about cheaper options. Only saw the price after the full bag fitting was complete--just over $2k. Which is basically the normal price for the irons and the shafts and a slightly high rate to assemble. Its the selection that drove the price, not inflated prices. Same thing with the wedges. OEM offers 3 different wedge shafts under that brand, but not the one I was fitted for. Also recommended a $300 shaft for my 3 wood and a $400 shaft for my driver. That was fine and expected. I was interested to see how much a difference the shafts made and I knew those were probably going to be expensive. But what did bother me some was that I was very close between two different shafts, basically a toss up. Only after researching later, I saw the other shaft was $200 less. Price was simply not part of the equation. So the driver for example, was like $800. Anyway, I just did some research on those shafts and looked for shafts available from the OEM with similar characteristics (weight, torque, kick points, etc.). If I don't like it, I can always buy a shaft later. I wouldn't necessarily go in there with a hard budget. But if I did it all over again, once we settled on heads, I'd just tell them I only want to try shafts the OEM offers with those heads. I'm sure they'd oblige. I wanted the fitting experience of seeing different shafts, and I enjoyed it. It was fun and I think I learned a lot about my swing, my clubs, etc. And really, their prices weren't much higher than buying new elsewhere. Its just expensive when you add specialty shafts and the associated labor to every club. I think if I was a more serious player, I'd want the absolute best setup for me, I'd go back and fit through them. When the clubs come in, I think they also have you hit them all (not just 6 iron used for the fitting) and make sure gaping and everything else is right. There's value there.

Playing isn't an endorsement of SAs. Playing supports SA. Both of those things can be true.

You're confusing his intention with the result. His intention is the subjective part. I don't know his intention beyond what he said. But the result is the objective part. SA starts a PR campaign and asks DJ to participate in exchange for $. He agrees. He is then participating in and supporting the campaign. That's true regardless of his reason for doing it. That's not an opinion. I'm not assuming anything. I just read his words. That's the message he gave. I don't dispute his right to play. I never said he is required to explain. All I said is that his explanation is not persuasive. He says he's doing it because its his job. But its only his job because he is doing it. 🤯 First, I'm not using "support" to mean "express agreement." Support = help. Second, I did not say he supports murdering journalists. By playing, he helps SA in its PR campaign. That's what I'm saying is not debatable. And yes, when I buy gas for my car I am indirectly supporting, i.e., helping, SA. I mean, I think our gas is mostly produced domestically, but it still adds to overall demand and helps SA. I don't think that's an earth shattering idea. It sounds like you agree with me. That's the objective part. There's not really room for debate. The subjective part is whether I should buy that gas despite the fact that it helps SA. Just like the subjective part is whether DJ should play despite the fact that it helps SA. But its false to say that me buying gas, or DJ playing in this event, does not "support" SA. Of course it does. No, my point was that the subjective part--whether he should play--is open to debate. It was literally the first sentence of my post. But me buying gas and DJ/Phil playing this event are not apple to apple. They're both subjective and reasonable minds can differ on whether its the right decision. But where you fall on one does not determine where you fall on the other. My subjective decision is that buying gas for my car is worth the support that it provides to SA. I need it and the benefit to SA is pretty small. Some people will disagree with that decision and that's fair. I hope to be able to buy an electric car soon. When judging DJ's decision the calculus is different. The benefit to SA is a lot greater than me buying gas. That's why they sell me the gas for a couple dollars a gallon and pay him millions to play. And he doesn't need that event like as much as I need gas in the car. So no, its not hypocritical to buy gas for my car and still think DJ/Phil should decline the invite.

Right, like I said, I'm not going to try to convince anyone that we're right or wrong. You don't know us, we don't know you, there's no point in debating whether we know how handicaps work, etc. But your last point is a good one. My impression is based mostly on the fact that when I play other similarly rated courses, even courses I've never played before, I score significantly better. (Again, not trying to convince you this means I'm right.) But since those away rounds are less frequent, they will appear as the outliers rather than my home rounds. And since the away rounds are less frequent, they won't make a big difference on my HC, and therefore the scores at my home course will be in line with my HC. So I guess the new system won't help settle this!

I suppose reasonable minds can differ on whether he should play, or whether we should care if he does. But its not debatable that he is participating in SA's PR campaign and helping that PR campaign achieve success. There isn't room for different perspectives on that. His explanation is not persuasive. He tries to relate to a working man who just does his job. But he is not a working man. He is not an employee who is told what his job is. He chooses which jobs to take. Like anyone else in that position, he weighs the pros and cons and makes a decision. That's the subjective part. He decided its okay to participate in the PR campaign if they pay him enough money. But to claim that his playing isn't supporting SA is not true. That's not a matter of opinion. Maybe he truly believes that playing does not support SA, but if so, he's wrong. Or maybe he knows its does but says this because he also knows that his decision is odious to some and he wants to minimize damage to his image. FTFY

The consensus at my home club is that it plays significantly harder than its rating. I'm sure we're not the only ones telling ourselves that, but assuming we're right, and scores are consistently higher than handicaps would suggest, wouldn't that now show up in the daily adjustment calcs? And if it happens regularly, would that be a red flag that might prompt to the USGA to re-rate the course?
