  1. One I see with some frequency on the green is improperly marking the ball when asked to move the mark to the right or left. Putting the putter to the side of the ball and placing the mark at the other end of the putter head is the wrong way. Mark the ball and then move the mark to the other end of the putter.
  2. My favorite at the moment in DuPont Saison. Though, I do also like Yuengling Lager a lot... and I bring back a case of Fat Tire every time I'm in CO.
  3. Woody is entitlted to his position, but IMO he intended to hit that ball. I saw it in realtime and thought immediately that he had tried to hit the ball. I was unpleasantly surprised when Maltbie reported that Austin said he had carded a 5. Maybe I'm being too harsh, but Woody Austin ranks well below Sabatini today.
  4. Years ago I was caddying for my dad in the pro-am for an LPGA event. We were on the second hole, which runs parallel to the ninth. Dad hits an epic slice that ends up right of the ninth fairway right in front of the bridge that cross the pond about 100 yds. short of the green, about 150 or so to the 2nd green. Sally Little was the pro on the 9th and annouces that if we wanted to be in her group we should have spoken up earlier. My father proceeds to catch his next shot thin and it ricochet's off the bridge railing and ends up on the fringe behind the 9th green. The crowd at the green, unaware of the situation, appluads. When we get to the green, Little hushes the crowd and says that if they liked the last shot they will really like the next one. He then hits a wedge over some trees to the 2nd green and gets a standing ovation.
  5. The Golf Channel is broadcast in HD in some markets. It tends to be paired with the HD feed of Versus in a time sharing arrangement.
  6. By default, NBC gets three of the most high profile season ending events and this is what we get!? Pathetic.
  7. Keep us posted on the no backswing swing progress. It really intrigues me as a potentially significant out of the box idea. Still haven't had the courage to use it on the course.
  8. That is indeed a good lesson. Just make sure you don't take it too far. For example, still analyzing while standing over the ball. At a certain point you have to turn the brain back off.
  9. I go by Ft. Wright at all times of day. My office is in Covington and often go down Madison to 275 when going to see clients. I will also go that route at the end of the day sometimes. I would say I pass by 1-2 a week. If you are looking at 2-3 years before doing this make sure you calculate what the real estate is going to cost at that point. Using today's value won't do you any good. If you know a real estate agent, that would be a good place to start when guessing at what the cost might be. I also agree that you should sign up for some business courses. NKU would be a good option. FWIW, here is my opinion of the Ft. Wright range. It sucks. The only reason it doesn't completely suck is because you hit off of grass. Those targets/greens are dreadful. Aesthetically, it is run down and uncared for. I go as infrequently as I do (once, twice a year, maybe) because I think they are over charging for what they offer. Like it or not, they are competing against the mental image of the higher end range and you would be too. However, what works for them may not work for you. You can't expct to be able to copy their model and expect to turn a profit just because they do.
  10. Living in NKY as well, I know both ranges you mentioned. I regularly drive by the Ft. Wright range and my anecdotal observation is that it seems like it is normally empty. The times I have been there, on the weekends, it is never very crowded. Maybe I'm lucky that way, though. If you are that young (retire at 22) I would go to the range and ask the people working there how many people they get during a summer day week and weekend. Hopefully they'll tell you, if not oh well. Your only other option would be to stake the place out and watch all day. Now, as for the finances, you had better hope that your wealthy relative is willing to help you out. If not, you are going to have to go through the SBA . I couldn't imagine getting a loan on this on your own from any bank unless you have some serious connections. If you had the land to secure the loan it would be one thing, but since you want to finance that too you are going to have to show a bank where they are going to get their money back from when you go out of business. (I'm not saying you would, but that that is how they are going to think.) You really are going to need some sort of a catch as well. As fast as the Hebron/Union area is growing I wouldn't count on just the local population. In fact, if you want to succeed in this you need to be thinking along the lines of creating a range that people will drive past the other two, and a lot further, to choose your range over your competitors. Drive out to Mason and take a look at this place to get an idea of what I'm talking about. That is the current state of the art in driving range "mouse traps." Also, you overlooked at least one range. World of Golf .
  11. I would like to see Match Play added to the FedEx Cup as well. However, I just don't see the TV Execs buying into the idea unless it would not affect the big name players. Used properly at the beginning of the series could allow for less cutting for the next two events, maybe even no cuts until the Top 30 for the final event. Now, with that said, I have found the FedEx Cup reasonably entertaing thus far, minus the usual broadcaster problems associated with any tournament on TV. However, going against the NFL on week one was not the best idea Finchem ever thought up.
  12. That's what went through my mind as I read the original post as well. I was once told that car wax would do the same thing. Being the curious type, I tried it on the range many years ago and have to same that it worked great.
  13. kafka, Try "Golf is Not a Game of Perfect" by Bob Rotella.
  14. I'd have to say I am a 6b. The 'b' qualifier is that I don't play enough and that leads to tragic forgetfulness. I am currently a 16.3, which will go up a few tenths after today's round. During my prime, country club brat days, I was a 4.8. Every now and then I'll feel something that I have done really correctly and the light bulb goes on and my swing will get incrementally better.
  15. My mother does this. Only she does it for every shot that isn't a chip or a putt. Of course, she only plays a couple of rounds of nine a year and doesn't keep score.
  16. 4 as well. A pair of DryJoy Classics (leather soled), a pair of Nike Tiger Woods from a few years ago, and two pairs on standard DryJoys. I never wear the Classics anymore, too heavy.
  17. Tiger's club touches grass before the ball in that video, but not the ground. Edit: This SwingVision of KJ Choi shows this better.

    Formula 1?

Aside from ettsn's comments, which I agree with completely, I'm not sure you're even right about the higher center of gravity thing. In NASCAR, the COT has a higher center of gravity than the old car. In COT races, yellow flags are WAY down, like 70%+ down. Certainly there is a point at which a center of gravity is too high, but I'm not sure there is a race car out there that would meet that standard. Of course, you have to exempt semi truck drifting.
  19. Yes, if you use the Blackberry Enterprise Server. It can also do instant messaging if your company uses MS Live Communication Server.
  20. If you start the divot before you hit the ball, you have hit the ball "fat" and it isn't going to have any real amount of backspin on it. Follow Leek's advise if you want to impart backspin. As to the original question, all three matter. I'd place contact at the top of the list and then worry about the other two.
  21. Greg, It's been a very long time since I have had such a shot and I'm not sure how readily I'd pull it off, but here is how I was once taught to hit that shot. Take your normal SW and rotate the shaft counter clockwise in your hands so that the toe is in a down and forward position. As I recall, if the normal position of the toe is 0 degrees and the target is at 90 degrees, you want the toe of the club pointing at somewhere between 35 and 45 degrees. Take a sweeping (relatively shallow) swing and make sure you have aimed a bit to the right. The ball should come out relatively easily, but it will be low and hot.

    Michael Vick

Yeah, I had ESPN Radio on my computer going at the time (as I do now). I thought he did pretty well. Whoever convinced him not to let a PR firm anywhere near the statement may have given him his career back. I absolutely agree he needs to go to jail. And, I definitely won't shed a tear if he is finished as a football player. I missed Arthur Blank's statement while I was at lunch. Anyone catch it? It couldn't have been too great since I haven't hear any replay yet.
  23. I've always found that the putter is the most personal club in the bag. Regardless of make and model, it just has to feel right in your hands. If that is the Rossa, then that is it. My own journey to a new putter recently went through Yes!, Rossa and Cameron. I had used a two-ball mallet for several years, but completely lost confidence in it over the off season. I still have no idea how it happened, but it did. Earlier this year, standing over a three to ten foot putt, my hands would quiver on the putter. After doing some research, I was convinced that the Yes! Callie was the putter for me. Once I hit it, I knew that it was wrong. For me, the issue was weight. It just didn't feel right in my hands. I hit a Rossa, not sure of the model, and it was better. Then I picked up a Cameron Studio Style Newport 2 and that was it. I knew I had my new putter. My only real advise, Hogan, is to let your feel dictate your decision.
  24. I agree completely on Rotella's 'not perfect'. I have the book, but can't seem to find it and will probably be ordering a new copy.
  25. It sounds like you do not stop at 3/4, if I read your original post correctly. What are you trying to feel on your back swing that let's you know you are doing what you intend? Huh, I thought looking retarded was the real selling point of the system.
