  1. Sorry...no hint being made (other than we already have a thread for that), just trying to be helpful!
  2. The networks don't need the blimp, except for the fact that they'd have to pay for alternative options, whereas the blimp paid them. http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2013/07/01/military-turns-to-blimp-in-box-for-surveillance.html This would work too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JLENS I'm sure there are dozens of options aside from the ancient, giant blimps or using drones.
  3. I've always tried to emphasize a full shoulder and hip turn away from the ball, and I think it definitely helps prevent me from swinging too far left across the line at impact (which has always been a problem area for me). Interestingly enough, I had a dozen sessions with a physical therapist this year because of some pain at the intersection between my T and C vertebrae. PT did range of motion tests at the beginning, middle, and end of the course of the evaluation/therapy. My shoulder and hip rotational range is significantly more turning to my right (backswing motion) than it is in the opposite direction. My backswing range of motion was (according to the PT) very good, but my follow-through range of motion was "restricted." I told him it doesn't matter at that point because the ball is already in the air. He disagreed. My neck still hurts, so what does he know?
  4. Okay, fair enough. I wasn't thinking about the idle-ness associated with a typical round on the modern tour.
  5. Totally agree--they have always been that way. Do you think it serves a purpose? I'm not sure I necessarily buy this. What's so different about a tournament that he couldn't replicate in practice? Hitting a few hundred balls on the range, putting drills for an hour, walking 18, and getting in a light-to-moderate conditioning session...I'm guessing this is what a typical full day of "practice" or "training" would consist of if he's healthy. How is a tournament going to feel different to his spine?
  6. Back in the day when you had to change the oil in your car every other week, I had a Jiffy Lube incident. Apparently the kid replaced the plug in the oil pan only finger tight, and it rattled out a few blocks down the road. That was super uncool. Now-a-days I just take it to the dealer for scheduled maintenance. It's rarely "just an oil change" per the service manual, and with newer cars it's only once a year (or 10k miles) anyway. I'm not a tinkerer, so I'm cool with the dealership giving my car a once-over at least annually.
  7. Skulls and flier lies from the rough influence the stats too. Not reading the post. Assuming that every post that doesn't parrot exactly what you've said or believe is "hating". Not understanding that when a person questions (cross-examines) an observation, assertion, or argument, it doesn't necessarily mean they believe or are advocating the opposite position (or that they hate you). Did I mention not reading the post? It really annoys me when someone is in a flame-fest and they flame on me--even though my posts clearly disavow whatever hate they've saddled me with.
  8. Just to wrap this up for @1badbadger *Divots, whether sand-filled or not, are not considered GUR under the Rules. *This issue has been discussed at length on the rules forum. *One major argument against treating divots as GUR is that it would be impossible to manage. You can't have a crew out painting white lines around every divot in real-time, and it's too hard/inconsistent to allow every golfer in the world to judge when a divot ceases to be a divot.
  9. So since you want to be so precise in framing your attacks, then you are dead wrong. Because in June 2008 he deliberately misled the golf world about the extent of his knee injury.
  10. That's not what I'm saying at all. I'm not blaming Tiger. I'm just saying: 1. I don't trust what Steinberg says, and 2. I think Tiger would help himself to be honest in general about his physical state. I don't know if he is or not (because I'm not his doctor), but his track record isn't good, and this sounds like more of the same. And @Phil McGleno you can't argue in one post that Tiger doesn't down-play his injuries, and then in the next two posts attack people who get mad because Tiger is perfectly justified in down-playing his injuries. And I said right there in the post that I don't know if he's doing those things or not. Those are just reasons that Tiger would be well served to be honest with folks. And the post you quoted contains the disclaimer that Steve later turned out to be a massive douche-hole. So, like I said, take a breath and read what I actually wrote.
  11. Dude, re-freaking-lax. I'm not bagging on Tiger at all. Take a few deep breaths while reading.
  12. Obviously not, because I'm making them. (No, I think it's fairly relevant. His chances this season are directly related to his health. His agent is trying to say his recent issues are not carryover from his past issues, but there's good reason to be skeptical. And this is the most interesting thing to happen in golf since Tiger rinsed three shots from 80 yards last fall.
  13. Fair enough. At this point I agree there is less (or no) utility in him being anything but 100% honest with himself and those around him about his health. Just a few reasons off the top of my head: 1. He needs to accept his diagnosis, prognosis, limitations, and treatment if he has any prayer of becoming a professional athlete again. 2. He must be 100% open about his prognosis when discussing new endorsement contracts, lest he be susceptible to fraud allegations. 3. He totally screwed over Steve Williams (who later blew any net Karma he gained from that, and then some) in 2010-11 by not being honest about his comeback timeline (and not compensating him for sitting out nearly two seasons). He definitely should NOT do that again. None of that means he necessarily needs to be honest with us, but the time for downplaying his injuries is behind him. Edit: and I have no reason to think he's delinquent on items #1-3 above, but IMO his track record WRT his injuries borders between delusion and deceit.
  14. Just as an example.
  15. That's your right, but I don't see how Tiger's communications strategy should undermine his greatness. He's under no obligation to bare his soul to the world at every event. He always had a significant interest in maintaining his aura of invincibility, for the sake of his business interests and the intimidation factor he held on the course. Doesn't make much sense for him to come out (as an example before the 2008 Open) and say "I'm excited about the event, but my right leg is broken right now, so we'll see how I do. Oh yeah, it hurts like hell. I'm on so much vicodin I could barely see the ball on the range." I think it's a lot cooler that he played with a broken leg, acted like everything was cool, won the freaking tournament on the 91st hole, and then we found out his leg was broken. (But that also means I don't really believe anything Steinberg says.) He never was 100% (or even 50%) forthright about his injuries. Still isn't.
  16. On Monday, when the tour has moved on. (There are likely no divots on the course from the members, because the members have been excluded from the course for a few weeks prior to the event.) (I keed, of course. That would work on tour, but not for the rest of us losers. And this issue has been beaten to death.)
  17. The swing doesn't look the same, for sure--but I don't know enough about the swing to look at his move and tell if he's still "great." His swing in 2012-13 didn't look anything (to me) like the move in 2000-02, but both were good enough. You're not talking about his swing necessarily, but about shots. I believe little of what Tiger and Steiny put out publicly, because their press releases have always been very shaped and/or parsed.
  18. Well, shoot. I don't buy the "not the same back issues" doublespeak, as the PR drill has always been to minimize any potential long-term speculation whenever Tiger withdraws from an event. Tiger took an entire year to heal his back. If that hasn't worked (and we don't know for sure, but this new development looks really, really bad) then he is probably done. He'll never be able to practice and play enough to get "back" if he can't play events in consecutive weeks. (And really, it was only 3 rounds.) His career play clock is ticking in red numbers. He doesn't have time to miss another season. http://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/18610837/tiger-woods-withdraws-omega-dubai-desert-classic
  19. Not good. Not good at all. http://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/18610837/tiger-woods-withdraws-omega-dubai-desert-classic
  20. Im going to do the PS Vue trial sometime in Feb. Need to decide whether to cut loose DTVNow (my prepaid period runs through feb). I'm locked in to the ridiculous introductory rate with DTVNow but the lack of local channels and glitches are hard to take.
  21. So apparently Hulu is doing exactly what I hoped they would: combining their new live TV service with their existing VoD library and service in a single app. Beta will begin this spring. You can sign up to participate in beta here. https://www.experiencehulu.com/
  22. My prediction for Tiger hasn't changed. Tiger spent all of 2016 recovering from and rehabbing his injuries. Let's assume that he followed a very strict, medically driven plan. Let's further assume he took the entire year because he didn't want to rush any training faster than what would permit a full medical recovery. He was 40 in 2016; there is no reason to assume he couldn't fully recover from a microdiscectomy after a year of focused rehab. Get the spine healthy, then bring the training back until the body is strong and capable. Tiger should be free (from injury) in 2017 to get his game back in shape. He'll need time to sharpen his shots, get used to competing again, and learn how to finish. I expect he'll start out inconsistently. As he progresses the frequency of sub-70 rounds will increase, and the frequency of 75+ rounds will decrease. Every cut made and every Sunday in contention will feed his competitive spirit until he is back to being as good as Tiger can be. How good is that? My answer wasn't listed specifically in the poll. I think by mid-Summer we'll see Tiger consistently making cuts and in contention. He will come close to winning a few times, and will probably win one by the end of the year. He'll make the playoffs. I think in 2018 Tiger could be as dominant as anyone has been since Tiger. Tiger will be 42 for the 2018 season. That's not old. Jack won 3 majors after age 40; Phil had one right before his 40th and one at 43. If Tiger wins 5 times in 2018, including a major, he'll tie both Speith and Day for the most dominant season in the post-Tiger era. I think that's quite possible.
  23. I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for this year's Newport Cup (East Coast, baby). Index: TBD (but definitely qualifying). Availability: A--100% (absent unforeseen crazy life circumstances). I am going to make golf a priority in 2017. I played less golf in 2016 (only 3 rounds) than any year since 1996 (I quit my college golf team at the end of 1995 and didn't touch a club until Christmas 1997!). The move to a seasonal climate, new job, and second kid crushed my availability to play golf. Two hand injuries (cut left hand requiring emergency care in the spring, and broken right hand at the end of September) didn't help. This year will be different. I don't have a handicap. When I play enough for a handicap to mean something, It is never above 6. The last two times I gave golf more 3 months of focused attention (I joined a golf league in Hawaii in 2012, and I played 100 rounds in the spring of 2014) my index dropped below 3. I can safely say "single digit", and can reasonably estimate 5-6 by July, and possibly 2-3 by fall. I'm an "A" for availability. I've told my wife I want to play golf again and she's on board. I live within easy driving distance of Pinehurst. I've already put the dates on my work calendar, so that won't be a problem. @iacas indicated he's going to make picks at the end of Feb, March, April.... I'm looking for one of the later picks, after I've put the reps in and can again claim a legit low single digit index.
  24. With DirecTV Now you can get Fox on your TV, the same as the local OTA broadcast (i.e. the morning and evening news is the local Washington DC news team). NBC you'll get only through the web platform and mobile app, but also the same content as the local broadcast. Both networks have limited on-demand content. Sling gives you both Fox and NBC on your TV. Also the same as the local OTA broadcast. Wasn't aware Sling had expanded into the DC area. I may have to give it a try, though I'll also need to see it to believe it. Apparently these guys can say they're giving you "local network stations" if all they have is a contract for on-demand content.
  25. I looked at Vue (they recently released an AppleTV app) but they have ZERO local channels in the Metro DC area. I really like watching local news in the morning. I could probably get over it.
