  1. Then wait until next year I hear Callaway is coming out with a new line early '08
  2. I'm pullin' for James or Hiroshi. I also wouldn't mind if Josh took the title. Absolutely do not want to see Benoit win, he rubs me the wrong way. I was hoping he and Anthony would get in a fist fight so they'd both get ejected
  3. Since you're a high handicapper and you have X-20 irons I'd suggest you'd stick with the X-20 wedge. Having as many of the same iron while you're learning definitely can't hurt.
  4. I have a SkyCaddie SG-2 and I love it. Lots of sprinkler heads and markers in my area are off by 10+ yards which is an entire club to me. I'm thinking about picking up a Bushnell Pinseeker Slope Edition in the sprint because I believe it's the first range finder to take into account elevation changes. Not cheap either, $450... ouch... The things I do for my golf game
  5. Wow, you have to cut almost 5 inches off your putter, and they said it should be ok???? I'm not a big fan of cutting shafts on a putter because from what I understand the manufacturers use different weighted heads for some of their putters (35" shaft would have a different weighted head as a 33" shaft in the same model) and I'd be really scared about cutting almost 5 inches off.... I could be wrong, but to be safe I'd just order a new putter with the correct length shaft.
  6. I disagree. I myself am also a short hitter usually hitting about 230-250.... If you said to me you'll take 5 yards of distance but greatly increase the chances of a drive right down the middle (or atleast where I'm aiming it) I'd take that in a heart beat. Really, what's 5 yards off the tee? It's not even a full club difference.
  7. Pretty sure Rog got out of Cleveland long ago and just recently hooked up with Callaway.
  8. The ball has an effect, but you're not going to be PGA tour with one, and duffer with the other. For instance the Titleist Pro V1x and Taylormade TP Black offers less spin (less feel as well) than the Titleist Pro V1 and the Taylormade TP Red. What does that mean.... if you slice the ball it will be slightly less evident with a lower spinning ball. The Sandtrap did a great review of these 4 balls... It's a decent read... Normally, when I go to GolfGalaxy or Dick's to spend some time on the launch monitor the sales associate will ask what brand of balls I play. Those 2 retailers also offer ball fitting services as well. Here's the link to the sandtrap review
  9. For me it's gotta be GIR. Reaching every green giving yourself 2 putts for par... that's clutch. I usually only have a 3-putt or two per round now but I barely ever break 50% on GIR. If I could guarantee that I'd always be 2 putting for par.... I'm giddy just thinking about it However, when listening to Peter K and the gang on the PGA network on XM they say the main difference between Nationwide tour players and PGA tour players is the ability to drain putts from longer distances. So I'm willing to bet if you asked any of them they'd said putting.
  10. Britboy is definitely on to something. I took my Sasquatch 3 wood out of the bag because it was infuriating to hit. I only recently put a 3-wood back in my bag but I only hit it when I'm extremely confident I can hit it where I want to, and if I screw up it won't leave me hung out to dry I wrestled with the thought of getting a 15* hybrid but decided to replace my 19* hybrid with a 17* hybrid and got a 3-wood as well. At this point in my game I can't run from clubs because they're hard to hit and expect to have my H.I drop.
  11. My step-son (age 18) uses the Adams hybrid irons as well and when we're out on the course I find he loses less than 10 yards on thin mishits... The gang at Adams certainly know how to make an affordable set of game improvement irons.
  12. I believe the trick to hitting hybrids is to tone your swing down, especially from the rough, to about 80% and keeping my head down through impact (down, not still). Making flush contact from the rough is paramount and all you're really trying to do is get it in the fairway or "near" the green. I carry a 17* and a 22* hybrid and I'm very comfortable hitting both. Actually, I'll use my 17* over my 3-wood if I have the slighest doubt about a shot from 200+ yards. Granted I create the distinct possibility of leaving it short, however I think the added control I have with the 17* gives me a higher percentage of keeping it in the short stuff in the event of an errant shot...
  13. Well gents, I don't think Ernie Els would play the FT-i tour if he lost significant distance so I think follyforhire might be on to something. I've tried the Nike Sumo2 on a launch monitor and it didn't cause any noticable loss in distance. On the other hand I don't seem to remember it helping me hit it straighter either :S I did however laugh at the 46" inch shaft and opted to test the head with a 45" stiff shaft.
  14. Wow, now that is hardcore.
  15. I golf by myself about 75% of the time. Golfing solo is the best way to work on your game as it minimizes the distractions. Also, it gives me the ability to drop balls in areas where I usually don't hit to so I can practice different shots. This lets me play a "real" round of golf and throw in a little practice for good measure.
  16. My God man, 50 yds from a driver.... I think you must've been having a bad day. I don't think any sort of equipment can make a 50 yard difference, especially if the equipment in question hits it "very straight".
  17. Typically you don't take divots with long irons or woods (or very minimal).. However, if you're a beginner it probably means you're hitting it "thin" which means you're pulling up and only hitting the top half of the golf ball. Hitting it "fat" means your swing bottoms out before it gets to the ball causing you to take a divot behind the ball. Hitting a ball fat or thin is considered a mishit and more often than not causes a loss of distance. Hope this helps
  18. 15 to a 9.6. 3 times a week at the range/short game area really makes a difference
  19. Hey Rich, good luck with the demo this weekend. I know that the CCi Forged provide an abbundance of feedback so it won't take you long to figure out if you're hitting them flush or not. For kicks I gave the 3 and 4 irons a few wacks... let's just say there's a reason I have a 2 and 4 hybrid in my bag
  20. I'm still apprehensive off the tee but once I get within 110 yds of the hole I'm pretty happy with my game. Maybe 1 3-putt per 9 holes and 3/7 GIR per nine.
  21. I love my 50* wedge so I always try to leave my ball 100 yards from the hole to give me the best shot at GIR.
  22. I went with all Cleveland because the Vokey's are notorious for shreddin through golf balls whereas the CG12s are not.
  23. Smaller head, thinner top line, less offset = less forgiveness... But they're not as hard to hit as X-Forged. I've hit the X-20, X-20 Tour, and X-Forged and I'd say the Tour are closer in forgiveness to the Forged than they are to the X-20. If you can't stand the look of the X-20 I wouldn't discourage you from at least trying the Tour but I'd be very hesitant at recommending you move to a "player's iron" until you cut your H.I in half.
  24. I bought a Burner (but got it with a 45" shaft instead of the 45.5) and I've tried a SuperQuad in the store. The store I shop at most frequently has a TM fitting center so I was able to hit Burner, Burner TP, Superquad, and Superquad TP before making my decision. The launch monitor indicated I hit the Burner the most consistent so I took its word for it . As someone else mentioned the cheaper $100 price tag didn't hurt either. Honestly, after a few minutes with the Burner I actually liked the head better than that of the Superquad. I might get even crazier next time and go for the Callaway FT-i Tour....
  25. I owned a 580XD with a stiff stock shaft. Traded it in for my Burner... After 3 months I'm still hitting it straighter with the Burner than I ever did with the 580XD (no, I did not get the Draw model).
