Is Titleist coming out with a 2008 V1?
Steaksauce replied to JYB's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Titleist was the first company to come out with a new tour ball at the end of last year. I don't think they really have a need to make a new ball every 6 months. The others just didn't come out with the new stuff until this year. -
First day of practice on the golf team today. 35 for 9 holes which is one under! Low round ever for me, first time breaking par, and lowest round on the team so far. Also being a freshman and the only one on the team, I definitely earned my spot and have full respect from everyone. 3 birds and 2 bogeys (my par save after a downhill bunker shot on a par 3 lipped out for a 4).

Read The Short Game Bible by Dave Pelz. It may or may not improve your short game per se but there is more important information in there. The first hundred pages or so deal with his work with improving such players games such as Tom Kite to name one. Many of the information is keeping stats of your game, making a spreadsheet and finding out specific areas you need to work on. For example, you may find out that your sand save percentage is less than 1/3 of the time. That could help you target specific areas that may be able to take people from great amatuers to a level greater than that. Hope it helps, might cost $35 at your local bookstore but will help drastically.

Titleist vs. Mizuno vs. Ping irons
Steaksauce replied to wardamneagle's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree, even as a young golfer growing up in this modern age I guess I'm kind of an old soul. For each shot I want to know exactly were I hit it, and I want to be rewarded for a good shot, but punished for a bad one. Thats why I play forged clubs and am switching to blades by next week. To me thats how golf and life in general should be played but thats only my opinion. -
I just had my second round of tryouts today, and after shooting 40,47 (today's weather was terrible in New Jersey, up to 50 mph and 40-45 degree temp. and the greens were airated) I was the only freshman to make the high school golf team! And for the last 10-15 years Moorestown has won more championships than any other other team in the whole state. I'm psyched, I get to practice and play 9 holes almost every day and also the youngest person to make the team now. My game should improve drastically because I didn't really get to play any nice courses last year and just confidence alone is boosted. Also this weekend my dad is going to let me get a set of Ben Hogan Apexes, whether it be his clubs or most likely from the used section of Golf Galaxy. So since my highschool experience is only just to come, anyone else want to share their golf team memories of the glory days?

40 for nine holes 1st day for highschool tryouts, second time playing the course. Major flaw; chunked driver shot into the trees on a par five and got a double bogey But as a freshmen only 3 people got me today, 2 seniors and a junior. So my chances of being a starter are pretty good.

Does anyone know ant information on the Ben Hogan Apex shafts? The weight, flex compared with others (Apex 4) ect...

I just played with a junior that was one of the top players on the highschool golf team last year and he said I should have no problems getting on and that I have a beautiful swing. My dad told me that he will let me have his old clubs if I make the golf team. He has a set of Ben Hogan Apex blades (98-02) but they are graphite and 2* upright. Since the first day of my tryouts were canceled, we went to Golf Galaxy to mess around a bit. I was checking out the used section and saw a set of the same Hogans in steel (Apex 4) and a nice set of MP-33s. I took a 7-iron from each and hit them on the launch monitor. The Mizunos felt really nice and I was hitting them pretty decently, but the Hogans were just fantastic. there was a flag placed at 150 yards out and my shots were all flying within 5 yards of the pin and, all carry, finishing up between 149 and 151 yards (and I'll probably get another 10-15 yards after I get to start playing again for a few weeks because it has been so damn cold up here!). And they cost $150 for the set. So assuming I make my team, should I go with the used store set or get my dad's clubs adjusted and reshafted for me? Also if buy a set of clubs from Golf Galaxy, do they do free lie angle checks and adjustments? Thank You, your opinions will be very valuable to me.

I lose intrest when Tiger is even playing an event now. I like watching the Champions Tour or reruns of the old rounds in the 60's and 70's because for the most part it's more exiting and closer competition. Also they just seem to have more fun playing the game. So with Tiger I just get sick of watching him completely hand everyone else's asses back to them and watching the media just bow down to everything he does.

Wilson Pi5 set for $99? Do you take it?
Steaksauce replied to kehanra99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
GO!!! Even by chance you don't like them, you could easily double that on ebay for a nice profit. -
Although I'm an athiest, I'll go along with the current religous thing. Bobby Jones = God Jack Nicklaus = Moses Tiger Woods = Jesus And then someone even better will arise once judgement day comes.

Softest Ball with the Most Spin
Steaksauce replied to dave39's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Taylormade TP Reds are pretty nice along side with the Pro V1s but cheaper -
I read the exact opposite for Pelz. I heard that he said to leave the pin in as long as the rules allow you to. And with all the studies he does and after reading The Short Game Bible I tend to agree with him on most things being fact oriented (aside from his former mass advertising rampage).

Steel Shaft Recommendation Needed
Steaksauce replied to golf_junkie27's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
True Temper Dynamic Gold S300s run for about $10 a peice -
I came really close to getting two in one round when I was playing in an outing, but unfortunately I still have none. Although, I did win the closest to the pin compettition that day. This ace is pretty nuts though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3SJ1wtAAnU

4 rounds without losing a ball 26 holes without a 2 putt
-
You could probable try and purchase a sleeve of each ball you want to try out at your local golf shop or if you really like the Pro V1 but it's a little too expensive, try online websites that have refurbished balls. http://www.cheapgolfballs.com/titleist http://rockbottomgolf.com/refinished...FQ7GGgodZHGEeg

I think the Fedex Cup would be much more enjoyable and easier to understand if they did a matchplay format like this and the US Amateur.
-
Just based off your handicap I'd say that its mostlyyour contact. Most people have a tough time getting the ball to stop quickly at a single digit, and the majority really only get to the point of backing it up close to scratch. But I way to get the ball to check up more is with a clean decending blow, usually with a divot off good turf afterwards and enough speed to make sure it compresses and runs up the grooves. Although the ball plays a very important factor as well. A softer ball such as a Pro V1 will get much more backspin than a Top Flight for example.

Tired of People Hating on the 3-iron
Steaksauce replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just started using a blade 2 iron recently and I can hit that straighter and more consistantly than my 5 wood, so once I make my golf team in 2 weeks I can get them reshafted to steel (Ben Hogan Apex 3 Graphite right now). Also I've been hitting it at the driving range in 40-50 degree weather with lots of wind so I can't wait to see how I hit it once my breath is no longer visible. -
Off the Tee..In General....Draw or Fade?
Steaksauce replied to Three Putt's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If the weather is above 40 degrees I almost always hit a high draw with a pretty good amount of backspin. Only when its in the 30's I get this strange slice that never happens other wise so I guess I shouldn't need to be that concerned about it. -
You may want to take a bunch of practice swings right behind the ball to see were the club head bottoms out and play the ball just behind that. Also if you watch the pros, they take the most practice swings from 100 yards and in so they can really feel the distance.

Should you watch the putter head?
Steaksauce replied to Pimpslap's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think the most effective way of playing for all shots is to have as little moving parts as possible, being that there is less wasted motions and a fewer chance to mess anything up. Also I putt best with a steady head, all shoulder swing, and extending outwards towards my target line after impact (still keeping my head down).
