No gloves, unless the rain or cold absolutely require it. I don't like that extra layer between my hand and the club

Can you name the first person to win a Major with a metalwood driver? What Major? What venue? What year?

, I was going to ask that those who knew, hold their response so we could get some other guesses...but of course: Bob Vokey Why don't I increase the difficulty a bit......

I thought I'd start a simple series of threads dedicated to golf trivia. If you like this idea, please say so in your post. If feedback is good I will continue with it. And since this site and it's users (and many golfers) seem to be partial to the Titleist brand, I'll start there. And we'll start with a real easy one.. See the picture I have included, what does the " BV " on the wedge represent? (Even if you don't know for sure, venture a guess)

I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions here. I know lots of folks who play the Titleist and are happy. I strongly recommend the new PING drivers. I had the G2 and G5 and now the G10. For more of my thoughts on this: http://emergency9.blogspot.com/2007/...008-style.html Good luck with your choice Jeff! BCA

Which ball do you use? or prefer?
bca42 replied to Robiola the Monster's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Bridgestone 330 for more than 2 years. It's one of the best balls out there. I used to play ProVs (like most) but switched and am glad I did. Also, for those that play a Titleist, here's an interesting article that details how Titleist lost an IP/patent lawsuit to Bridgestone for ball design earlier this year. Each time one of the Titleist balls is sold, Bridgestone receives royalties. And incidentally, I think we'll continue to see the Bridgestone and Srixon brands make deeper strides in the golf equipment market in the years to come. -
I have used Carolinagolf.com before and they do an unbelievably professional job. Also they do not require shaft removal before shipment as some others do. But last I checked they only worked on certain brands of equipment so check first. I think the info is listed under 'repairs' section. Good luck!

I actually carry both, most oftentimes in my bag. While some situations I may use one or the other, most situations lead me to choose one over the other. I definitely agree, the 3 wood's trajectory is higher. But I will choose my 16* hybrid if a straight ball is a must and also if I'm not feeling comfortable with the 3W that day. I also tend to hit the hybrid better from the fairway (and rough) than the 3W. In general for me the hybrid is higher percentage, just not as long - even when flushed.

To Ryan Moore and Alejandro Canizares: Can you please stop wearing that unsightly, fashion-failure of a painters cap. Many thank yous in advance.

Can you spin the ball with wedge? How?
bca42 replied to yamhang's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
In addition to others good advice of how to get it to happen (i.e. steep, hitting down on ball). I'd also contribute keep your hands soft and wrists loose and quick. Tension in hands, wrists or forearms make this shot almost impossible. When first learning this technique to hitting the ball, I'd recommend trying to get the ball to spin and check with chips and short pitch shots first. It's an easy way to get started and it's like a stepping stone to full swing shots. It won't spin as much as full shots will for you, but it will enough that you'll know by visual feedback whether you're doing it right. I chip/pitch indoors all winter using wiffle golf balls, and even they will spin enough to check up. It's also just a good winter drill to keep chipping practice. Good luck! -
You just had to 'show me' this new Miz bag didn't you?! You know I have a bag and golf shoe problem :) My Miz Twister bag is barely 2 yrs old and in great shape. This one looks even better. It's like a thorn in my brain dammit... Great post!

Like most things in life, this decision won't please everyone. There will always be someone who doesn't like the impact to them. I'd advocate for the lower fields (60 and T), but let's see how this approach works over the whole year. It might be impacting enough.

I think of it this way. There are things that bug us that you cannot attach to a person present (e.g. unrepaired ball marks, dewy grass) then there are things you can attach to a person present (e.g. slow play, jingling change in pocket). From a competitive perspective I have found I have to ignore the latter because it takes you out of your game if you're bothered by something. These things only later serve as an excuse or self-fulfilled prophecy. The former I do my best to deal with, despite their annoyance. That is, I'll fix the ball marks as habit on every green, regardless of their 'age'. And I always have a towel with me on green which solves the dewy grass issue. Golf is terribly hard enough without adding anything else to the equation.

In general terms, I initially play the golf course, playing my game. And don't take many chances at all. Almost no matter what level of play, your opponent needs to make one mistake sometimes to let you back in. Only toward end of the match (once the 'table is set') would I consider changing this approach, and really only if I was down. If I'm up you keep the pressure. Maybe concede real short putts for halves early in the match so he doesn't get to make the stroke under pressure. I never take chances early because it's way too easy to look back and later blame the matches loss over trying to go for it, whatever the decision is.

I play an older set of MX Mizuno's, but this years next set will likely be an MP Mizuno. For the forseable future I would expect to buy Mizuno irons, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any model. I'm leaning toward the 32s. Good luck bud!

Congrats on a fabulous round! I'm guessing a new career low? Careful about 'beating golf' the Gods have funny ways of returning the favor. Again, well done! BCA

A couple years ago right before they launched, I had the opportunity to feel the Lamkin Dual Density Torsion control grips (most people know them by the royal blue insert molded color). The feel was fantastic. I went to my club fitter in the off-season (right after they hit the market) and asked him to change the whole bag. "Minky" always steers people toward Lamkin grips, but he focuses on the more traditional Crossline series (the dark green ones). I insisted on the blue DDTCs and have had them ever since. Two years later he tells me it's his most popular grip customers ask for. They are good in the tough weather too, though gloves are still needed in my opinion. If the color doesn't bother you and you're looking for a new grip, give it a try.

Already mentioned by others but to agree two of my favorites were the Black course (Bethpage) and Crandon in Miami also.

Over many years, I've played many courses in FL, and they were all great courses too. But honestly, I don't remember all the rounds at all those courses. I remember every single shot I played at Stadium course. You won't be disappointed.
-
I was in the 80s or 90s this year (18 holes) but that's a career high. Generally, I hang around the 50s and 60s for round totals. And in New England there's 3 or 4 months that I don't play (at least official in-season rounds).
-
I have played Boulders and it's worth it for sure. I also recommend and agree with those who offered: WeKoPa and Eagle Mountain (which I hear few talk about but it's a great experience). I couple others I played last year and loved: Estrella Mountain Ranch (there's another Estrella nearby so get the right one) and Las Sendas (I ran into Donovan McNabb there, advance apologies for the namedrop ). All four are equal in my eyes. Can you go wrong with Troon or Grayhawk? In a word, no, but everyone goes there. So you either choose the popular tracks or the lesser known ones that maybe the more experienced Phoenix traveler/golfer knows. Either way you won't be disappointed. Have fun! BCA
