  1. I think it's awesome that Jesus chose to help Derek Ernst win a golf tournament rather than stopping untold numbers of drunk rednecks from raping their own children. What I can't figure out is why Jesus has allowed that buddhist Tiger Woods to win so many times. WTF?
  2. Just ordered. Looking forward to getting started and getting consistent.
  3. Technically, any final stroke that results in the ball being in the hole, is a "hole-out". My point was that is surprises me that people were calling it a "chip-in" because it most certainly was not a chip by any definition. Definition: The term "hole out" can be used as a noun or a verb: Noun: A "hole out" is a shot that results in the ball winding up in the hole. As such, every last stroke on a given golf hole is a "hole out," since your play of a hole isn't over until the ball rests in the cup . But the way "hole out" is most often used as a noun is to refer to shots the unexpectedly result in the ball finding the cup; a shot from the fairway , for example, or a blast out of bunker .
  4. Certainly looks like a hole-out to me. What it doesn't look like is a chip of any sort :-)
  5. Why is everyone calling this a chip-in? That's not a chip shot.
  6. Bandon Dunes is the most scenic and least punishing, that's what they will tell you in the pro shop if you ask. Weather is a crap shoot on the southern oregon coast in the winter. We went mid January last year and got lucky, windless, dry and 58 degrees. Also, we could have walked on that day. The course was NOT crowded.
  7. This, plus new Blitzen Trapper, and new New Pornographers. Not sure what I think of "Infinite Arms", but the other 3 are FANTASTIC.
  8. This wasn't directed at you, Gilles - but including your thread we have all these just on the first few pages in off-topic. All should have been posted in Golf Talk IMHO Just sayin'... golf clubs from US to Europe Practice Diary Soon to be new HS golf coach, please help!! The Hottest Professional Golfer Apple's new iPad for golf Persuading the non-golfer Being John Daly sucks. Dear Golf Channel 2010 North Texas Golf Show - Two thumbs way down (for me anyway)
  9. this is an "off topic" forum. Why all the golf topics? This is such a tightly moderated board in almost every other aspect, this just surprises me I guess. If the topic is at all related to golf, it belongs in Golf Talk, no?
  10. Even though I'm an hour plus south of PDX, I can back up Blades on the year-round golfing in the PNW. Sure there are some days where it's pouring and depending on the course, drainage can be a problem, but we don't let that stop us
  11. Weekday, this time of year, probably not too difficult. I went on MLK Day in Jan, and despite the fact it ended up being a GORGEOUS day, it was not crowded at all.
  12. I watch movies on my iPhone when I'm traveling - either flying, or my wife is driving. Otherwise, no. My kids do quite often, though.
  13. I've done this for the past couple years with a group of buddies. It benefits the local Boys & Girls club and is a lot of fun. The format is fivesomes: better ball. The first time I chose 5 wood and did pretty well. I had length off the tee, and I was able to chip and putt remarkably well with it. The second time, I went with a 3 hybrid and that wasn't so good for some reason... I'm thinking a 6 iron this time. I'll give up some distance off the tee, but will have more loft for shots closer to the green. I'll practice putting with it for the next few weeks. Any of you done this format? What club did you choose? What was your strategy? 7 iron seems a popular choice in past years.
  14. Like you don't have Golf 365 in Westwood, CA???? I'm up here in Oregon and I don't let the changing seasons keep me off the course
  15. While it may be true that in general, the younger generation is more liberal than the older, what the study shows is that it is not true that people tend to get more conservative as they age. It's the other way around.

  17. Guys, he doesn't NEED to do anything with scorecard and the iPad. It will work as is. All iphone apps will run on the iPad.
  18. Golfshot GPS on the iPhone is all I need. No way would I take an iPad out on the course.
  19. Have you guys seen this? http://www.nwgolfguys.com/ Nice resource for PNW golfers.
  20. I'm starting a series of 10 myself tomorrow. I had this grand vision of coming up with a plan, and sending the pro video ahead of time so he could study my swing in advance, blah... blah.... Didn't do any of it. One thing I would like to do, is record the lessons. I have a little Aiptek HD camera (sort of like a beefier flip video) with a mini tri-pod. Is that an appropriate thing to ask to do?
  21. If you are running Snow Leopard and the server is running Win2007, you can use the native mac apps seamlessly, (Mail, Calendar, Address Book) and setup is nothing more than entering your email address and password. Couldn't be easier.
  22. We got so lucky. Two days before our appointed time, the weather was looking to be MISERABLE. The Weather.com "golf index" was showing a "0" (very poor) on a scale of 1 to 10. But the rains stopped and we ended up with a "6" (good) - and it felt better than that to me. Very little wind if any. Only a few sprinkles here and there, and temperatures right around 55 degrees. I WANT TO GO BACK. I didn't play well over all, but I didn't care - perhaps the vicodin I took, and the bourbon I was sipping contributed to both the former and the latter. I hit some very good shots amongst all the hackery... had 5 greens in regulation, sunk a few long putts and nailed at least a half dozen approaches. Didn't get a caddy, but I might on a future return visit. The place is heaven, guys. You must go.
  23. Heh. I bought a four-pack of the little plastic/nerf wiimote golf club accessories on a super markdown at a discount store. I think they do absolutely nothing but give me the sense that there is a club-head I need to open and close through the swing, but I guess that is _something_. I like using them, but if they had cost me anything more than the $5.99 I paid for the lot of them, I wouldn't think it worthwhile.
  24. The Soft Bulletin is one of my favorite albums - I saw the lips four years ago at Vegoose® and they were fantastic. Some pics I took that evening:
  25. I've played Diamond Woods a lot. That course will hurt you. Although strangely, it was the first place I broke 100. It's a beautiful walk.
