Official Big Break Dominican Republic thread

He was an assistant pro at my home course. He says this stuff all the time... -
I was playing at Santee National about four years ago. I think the 5th hole is a long uphill par 3. My buddy (mis)hit his first ball WAAAAYY right. He teed up another and put it in the hole for par. The foursome ahead of us was part of our group and were celebrating at the thought of free drinks.

Virginia Tech has a course.

Think about the guy guessing weight at a county fair. He's more accurate.

I feel your pain. We had a Ryder Cup type of event between my home course and another local course. Each day had 2 nine-hole formats. I shot a 56 on the first 9 (fortunately a 2-man team format that allowed us to tie) and then a 38 on my individual match. I can't explain it.... It just happens sometimes.

I'll bite. How do you know?

Going to have to buy some new clubs because...

Will it even be worth it to try and file an insurance claim? Around here, it comes out of your home owners policy deductible, which is usually 2% of home value. -
This is also the reason I get beat by men twice my age on a regular basis.

That's what I thought as well. When Capt Obvious chimes in from the cheap seats, I don't blame him. Any failure to execute is mine due to lack of ability and practice. Sadly, I've come to expect some of these responses. This is the Internet, where everyone is 2 days of practicing their short game from playing on the Nationwide tour.

Playing my first tournament at new course.(what do you think i'll shoot?)

Are sure your handicap is 28? You list your index as 13.1. You also say you shot a 90 there when you were terribad. I guess 82? -
Word of mouth is obviously the best. What I've done is to find out a potential instructors lesson time. I've taken my lessons at ranges and muni's. I call up to arrange an appointment and there is the usual haggling over a time spot. I'll figure out when they have an already scheduled appointment that I can attend. I tell them I will call back to schedule an appt when my schedule clears up. Since they give their lessons at public ranges, I get a stall close enough to hear and observe their scheduled lesson. If I like how the instructor communicates, I'll catch him/her right after the lesson or call later.

This past Sunday I was 1 over after 8 holes, last hole is a par 5. My cart-mate says to me "Have you ever shot a 37 before?". Well, needless to say, I still haven't. We did win though.

In my 5-wood, I have a Fujikura PRO95 (Says Fit on 11! on it) Flex-S shaft. I absolutely love this thing. Does anyone know what the equivalent driver shaft is? I'd like to find something as close to this shafts feel as possible. Thanks.

I had a driver shaft break (Stulz) at the end of my swing. It sounded like a tree cracking because it was right behind my ear....

Breaking 100 is entirely different from breaking 80. To break 100 on most courses, you simply need to be able to hit the ball and have some rudimentary putting. Most people on this site could break 100 with using a 6 or 7 iron from tee to green. I didn't think that way a few years ago when I couldn't break 100, but now know it is true. Breaking 80 is a bit more difficult. On topic, I thought Haney did ok with what he had. The 2 month break in the middle couldn't have helped. That being said, it is one of the more boring shows I've watched. I wish they would be the spaz golf fix guy out on the road more often with amateurs. I saw one of his shows with Butch Harmon and they pulled a dude/sponsor out of the crowd and worked with him for 10 or 15 minutes. That would probably be more interesting.

Ours is a bracket elimination as well. I played my second round match against a 23 handicap guy, I gave him 5 shots. He shoots a 43 on the front to have me two down and I double the first 3 holes on the back to go 5 down. He closed me out when I doubled the 16th. This year is the only year I felt like I beat myself. In the other years, the other guys played really well. I've lost in the second round each of the last 3 years. Two of the guys shot their low round of the year against me. The 3rd shot the low round of his life.

Be happy with what you have. The military courses around here have retired military DUDES as the cart girl.
-
I have my roller coaster scores in the same round. For example, on Monday I went Triple, double, double, double, double on the first 5 holes. I ended up 15 over. I think it's normal. My last 20 (last 2 months) scores range from 84 to 97.

This was within the maintenance shop.

I've played 54 riding once. I was exhausted. I walked quite a bit the first 18, as I was with a foursome. The other 36 was just myself and another guy. The last 9 holes, I think I was hitting 1 or 2 clubs extra on each shot from the first 18.
-
I truly hope you do. I've noticed that, for me, everything is in waves. I will go several weeks of low-mid 80s, followed by month of can't break 90, etc. However, that's one of the aspects I enjoy about the game.
-
I've only broken it once. I've hit 80 a bunch of times though. On one of my 80s, I doubled every single par 3. I've never had 5 birdies in a round before. That's pretty darn good. Some of the responses on here surprise me. One guy lists his index as 11. I would think a 13 or 14 handicapper would have broken 80 before.

Isn't a lateral hazard marked by yellow stakes? Anyways, regarding the OP's second question, I believe you may play a provisional at any time from the tee.

the only high numbers I seem to find are on ProV1x's.
