Recovering from Shoulder Surgery and Golf
HazardMagnet replied to Old1964's topic in Fitness and Exercise
2 c. A co-worker of mine busted his shoulder breaking up a dogfight in the fall of 2012. He had surgery two weeks later (and of course a vet’s bill). I don’t remember most of the details but after going through therapy all winter, and missing his two annual winter golf trips to Florida, his doctor cleared him to return to the game around May. His first several rounds he Tee’d up his ball on every shot except putts, to avoid hitting the ground. I’ve never played with him, as he’s much better than I am, but he’s a great guy to talk Golf with. Best wishes on your recovery. ~Tom B. -
Marry Christmas Happy Holidays to you all on The Sand Trap!

Merry Christmas to all Sand Trappers, Thanks for all the great reads this season! -
I'm playing Tuesday, 30* to 40*. I know not a record setter, but the wind could be anywhere from a light breeze to ridiculous... down at the shore. Then over the holiday's, we're down in North Carolina. Who knows? 30's to 70's. Then we're back in Ct. and it's at the indoor place until spring. ~Tom B.

You know, that's worth a try for me, so no laughter here! I work outside for a living and wear leather work gloves all the time. So only wearing a single Golf glove, regardless of sweat, heat etc. just doesn't feel right. I go through two pairs a year, this might just be my answer. I'm not out there to make an fashion statement anyway. Next week when I get paid is "Oil Change day" so I'll be at Autozone anyway. I'll take a look at them, too bad I think my season is basically over for this year. Thanks... ~Tom B.

Done, I think I've signed ~Tom B. on many of my posts already anyway. My 3 sisters & 2 Bros. in laws still call me Thomas, which is fine, But "Tommy" is like Nails on a Chalkboard to me.

Between 10.00 & 11.00, Mon. through Thursday. If the Mrs. has to work on a Saturday, she gets a Comp. day off during the week. She gets to sleep a little late, we go out for Breakfast, and usually have a crock pot going for dinner. That's our golf day's together, usually ruined by little white balls. If it's just with the guy's though, I let them decide, it's usually earlier. When She's in the cart with me, games usually are "a date day" even when we play with the boy's. When I'm out the the guy's only, I am a little more serious and focused. We all avoid Friday and weekends at all costs. The gang and I are lucky, that we have flexibility at our jobs to make this happen.

Hello from Westchester County, New York

Welcome... I grew up in Scarsdale! -
So I guess no one so far lives with a Certified New England Flower Show Judge. I do. And since I play about 85% of my rounds with her, I can tell you it adds about one half hour to my total "Golfing Experience" for the entire day, and it starts at the parking lot and Clubhouse. I don't really care that the ( Place any Latin Term you wish here ) plant needs more Nitrogen... I guess I probably do also! What does that have to do with why we're loading up a golf Cart? Oh, Really they are infested with ( Place any Latin Term you wish here ) bugs? Who cares, they live out side. Yes dear, I won't get any one me... Sweetest, Yes, you've explained to me that Plant Selection, Orientation, Presentation and possibly Mitigation (?) are all very important, but what does that have to do with our club selection??? We're both in the Fairway.... way over there! And then, when she goes on a business trip she'll remind me that if one particular house plant starts to wilt a little bit all the others need watering too. I'm really wanting to ask if I can use boiling water. (Just kidding!) Well it's time to go out and cut the grass. She's got plants out side that I need to be carefull of... "To mow, or not to mow. That is the question"...

I agree, that they have to play the course as we do... NO professional Caddy pre walking and getting yardages prior to the round, finding the trouble spots. Hand them a card with the pretty little pictures and find out that the little pond over the hill really takes up most of the center of the fairway. Give them some local High School Football player to carry their bag for 4 or so hours, who's only been on a golf course to go "Sleigh riding"! My question is allowing the use of GPS/ Range finders? And then that leads to whether or not to have colored flags denoting "front- middle or back" hole locations. We all know that Pros, both guys and girls can read greens and Putt, Take away all the additional info. Find out the hard way that you didn't want to hit your ball there. I think that Par would be broken, but not stupid low. I think the round would become a Chipping Fest, and possibly sloppy, but fun to watch. Interesting Idea, I think it would be a great fore-mat for a Pro Charity event!

I voted 2. I have only played in the States, But my Girlfriend played in Malaysia three years ago while doing her "two weeks" for the NAVY reserves. She bought a reaaly nice Course shirt for me, but once I washed it, it shrank and now she wears it.

I found the leprechauns stash of lost balls today
HazardMagnet replied to APrince's topic in Golf Talk
Not really one spot, but on one course on one weekend. It was January 2012, and I got to play all weekend at a NAVY Base where the 2nd, 3rd and 9th holes have a fence line down the right side separating the course from railroad tracks. I essentially had the course to myself all weekend so I could take my time and started to pull out my ball retriever when I was on those holes and collect balls from the other side of the fence. Total take for the weekend was 45 balls of every kind. Most of them were in great shape and the ones that weren't, I tossed out on the driving range. I get to play there two or three times a year, all weekend long and the best part of that trip, was that it was the second time there was a nice little sign on the clubhouse door saying "Golf is Free this weekend!" -
"Reasonably new to the game"... Handicap index = 12, wow, great question. Love mine though... 169yd carry on that lousy 18th hole. Just found that out back on Tuesday. Now that lake really doesn't look as big as it seems. Tin Cupped two into the drink before I cleared it. It was late in the day and I saved that ball! Welcome to the Sand Trap! ~Tom B.

Wildcat or Hickory? Any recommendations? Planning our Holiday trip down south this year and Fort Jackson is the closest base within reasonable driving distance (2 hrs. each way). It will most likely be the only round we play. I have recommendations for public places but I'm leery of crowds with the holiday travelers so I'm willing to go that far. The MWR website link had lots of useful information... except score card or layout diagram. Thanks for any input. ~Tom B.

I am in. But no idea on witty saying right now. After all can't wear a Tee shirt on the course. Since I've been wearing Mvmac's hat, my Putter is allergic to Greens! As for "Troll's need not apply", That's what I refer to my Ex-wife as.

Up Close and Personal at the Deutsche Bank tournament

Go onto the tour website and look for "How to Volunteer". While I have not done this myself I know that the "Travelers" in Ct. does this. It's on my Bucket List.Good Luck! -
In Connecticut, $50 to $70 +/- will get you 18, a cart and a bucket of balls for the range on a week day at some very nice places, per person. You obviously can go higher or lower depending on where you want to go. Since I take my Fiance with me 90% of the time, that cost doubles for me. So almost all my golf costs me over well over $100 per outing, but she's worth it! She's fun to play with... (Pardon the pun). Since Ct. is a small state, weekends tend to be packed. But we are lucky because she has plenty of "Comp time" to use up and I'm swimming in Vacation/ sick time myself, so weekdays aren't really an issue for us. I haven't really looked into Golfnow.com and such, I guess I really should, as we tend to plan our rounds around spur of the moment whims... such as yesterday afternoon, we decided to go out this coming Tuesday. 10:42!
-
Rats... All I got was a "Thank you Dear" for mowing the lawn for the first time in 4 weeks. But we have a 10:42 Tee on Tuesday!

Nice Job, looks like a great place to play.

I have one! I found at a garage sale in a bag of clubs. Paid $5.00 for it. Cleaned it up and it's hanging on my wall. Never hit it though, guess I should give it a try sometime

Hello From North Yorkshire, England
HazardMagnet replied to Royster1984's topic in Welcome, Everyone
Greetings from Connecticut, USA. We just had the unique opportunity to invite two young ladies, one from Aberdeen, and one from South London into our home. They are both over here for your "Camp America Program" as we are involved in Girl Scout Summer Camps. They were both very intelligent and fascinating to talk to in the evenings. They both thought it odd that we watched BBC America, after the local & national news, and were fascinated with American TV shows (the ones we can't stand to watch). The girl from London spent a week with us, and the girl from Scotland spent two. Luckily the Aberdeen Tournament was going on while she was with us and she got to see her homeland and then showed us on the Internet what that area looked like. And her father plays golf also. Greetings again... ~Tom B.
