  2. Thanks for the feedback. Few of my friends and I all use Swing X Swing app to keep score on all our rounds. We use that handicap to play against each other. Non of us are members at a club or play in tournaments so it is of little consequence. Nice to know that Swing x Swing may be close. If I understand correctly I cant keep a regular handicap because 75% of my rounds are solo. My favorite golf is walking 9 by myself in the evening.
  3. Good conversation. I have never kept an official handicap. Question how much does an official handicap differ from the handicap in Swing X Swing or Game Golf? I am not intending to use it universally, I was just wondering if the two would be close. Thanks,
  4. I know he was put on the clock. However, he was not penalized, so he is still playing within the rules. It is interesting that Day and Spieth are some of this best players in the world but are also some of the most deliberate. Also, I am not a proponents of slow play in recreational golf, but that is a different subject.
  5. As long as he is playing within the rules I'm fine with it. I have no problem if they want to adopt a shot clock but they haven't yet so as long as he is within the rules I'm cool. As a fan I thought the Masters was great entertainment again this year.
  6. That clears it up. Thanks @Lilfrier I appreciate it.
  7. Love GameGolf. it is not in the way during the round and yet produces rich data to analyze later. It looks like I will be ordering a new set of irons this weekend. Going from 16-18 year old pings to a new GI iron I am expecting it to change my distances quite a bit. (just because what they call a 6 iron now used to be a 5 iron) Question: Will reassigning my tags to the new clubs automatically take care of the data from my old clubs. When I look at the data for a particular club all that will be useful is the data from the new clubs not my old Pings. Thanks,
  8. Do we have the price and availability information on these grips yet? I am ordering a new set of clubs and would love to consider these grips with the GG sensor built in. thanks,
  9. I will put in a plug for the Clicgear 3.5+ This is my 2nd year with this cart and I have nothing but good to say about it. For me it has made walking so much more enjoyable. Just having a cup holder and a place to keep my phone is a plus. When making your decision look over clicgears website. They have any accessory you can think of.
  10. Looking to buy new irons this spring. My 15+ year old Ping Blade i3 set is more than due for a replacement. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to get fit in Columbus. Thinking of the Golf Galaxy in Easton but that is not based on any experience. Thanks in advance for your advice.
  11. This is anecdotal because I only played one round with my ne Game Golf, but I found it to be painfully accurate in its reporting on my game. Also, the set-up process was easy and totally self explanatory. I am excited to get more rounds so I have enough data to be useful.
  12. I've said it before... I wonder why our sport isn't growing. Somebody suggest a group of players having fun under simplified rules and the chorus of "that aint golf", "That's cheating" and "get off my lawn" starts. Just look at post here. someone will present a scenario and it will take two pages of post for the rules gurus to hash through which point which rule applies and why. Almost all sports have people playing by recreational rules. Our local rec hockey league plays with no checking, shortened periods and modified overtime rules. Nobody is telling them that they are cheating or that they are not playing hockey.
  13. Wow! Are there actually courses that list playing time as 4:30? I know it happens, but to set 4:30 as par....
  14. I saw the 96% claimed also, but now it is back to 72%. Odd. I hovered over it for awhile trying to decide. For that price it is worth trying. Got mine on the way.
  15. I just saw that Game Golf is 139 for Prime Members. Lightning Deal 31% claimed. You are welcome,
  16. In that price range I would consider a mint condition used set. There are many sites that sell used sets. I have had god luck with 3 balls .com (not sure if I am allowed to link them here) I have found them to be honest. if they say very good condition the club you get will be very good. I am of the belief that, while the technology in irons keeps getting better, no one update is not that much better than the last. Based on that, it does not bother me to swing a set that is a year or two old. My .02
  17. Yup. Sounds like the guy likes to ride but just isn't big on actually paying for the cart he is using. Sounds like a class act.
  18. I have not heard of this. I am grateful my local course has no issue with my daughters riding along or my wife walking with me. The girls enjoy it and who knows we may be making some future golfers. When they go along is usually later in the evening when the course is wide open.
  19. If I had a chance to take lessons from Harmon or Haney I would not really care what their swing looks like. I once had an instructor that would spend way too much of the time I was paying for showing me what he could do. If we were working with a 6 iron he would take my 6i and set up and hit 10 balls in a row without saying anything. Yes, I know you can hit a 6 farther than I can hit my driver, but that really doesn't help me. I would rather have a good teacher than a good golfer when it comes to a golf instructor. It's the same with most sports. The brilliant coaches that are getting the most out of the athletes could not do themselves what they are teaching. I am certainly not saying that this guy is a good golf instructor, but the fact that he has a questionable swing doesn't automatically make him a bad golf instructor either. Respectfully,
  20. I am really interested in this intersection of golf and technology. I am guessing by the end of the season I will own either Game Golf or Arccos.
  21. Both very valid replies. Maybe you are right. My perception is we still have an image problem that has its base in this issue. What other activity would you ever do that people brag about carrying a rule book written by lawyers along with them? Not sure. Possibly this is the best we can do. From a marketability of the game viewpoint I think we have a problem. 35% of the people who have voted on this poll think their are too many rules. That is 35% of people engrossed in golf enough to have a user name on this site. Seems high. I wonder what the number would be like if you asked the pool of potential golfers? Again, I am not having this discussion for me. I have a general knowledge of the rules and very much enjoy the game. Interesting discussion.
  22. I am not looking to change any rules. My thoughts are more about the attitude in this thread and whether it may have any bearing on the accessibility or attractiveness of the game. Any person that dares to suggest that not every line of the rule book is necessary is looked at as the enemy that must be ridiculed. I remember a thread where a rule guru here on the site was saying if you don't play by every rule in the rule book you have no right to tell anyone what your score was. Not very inviting to newcomers. I actually agree with you that our sport is not dying. In my original post I overstated it for effect. However, while dying may be too strong of a word, I think those in the equipment sales business would be of the opinion that, at the very least, we have a demographics problem. That is good news about the Junior Golf Association attendance. I am just going by what I see on the local courses. It is not unusual to play with my normal group on a Sat morning and play 18 holes and spend time at the 19th hole afterward and see no kids and almost no women playing. Is there a possibility that could be related to the keepers of our game being the essence of stuffy and exclusive. What other sport or activity would say over and over that you should carry a book with you to figure out how to navigate the game? It sometimes seems like the collective attitude of our game is "get off my lawn" which is all well and good until they actually do get off the "lawn". Not sure. But I do know that if we are not willing to ask the questions we will not get the answers. Respectfully,
  23. Yes, keep golf pure! No compromises. More rules. Hey, why are there no kids out here? Why is our sport dying? Why are courses closing? (Yes, know the rules and mostly play by them.)
  24. Possibly another way to look at this is that the Tour us wanting it both ways. On the one hand they want the caddies to be independent contractors to keep cost down and on the other hand they want to dictate exactly what they wear and how they can be paid by other vendors. I agree a logo on a caddie is not worth nearly what the logo on the golfer is but that may have a case here.
  25. I don't have pictures. Wish I did. We were there in August and found patchy dead grass on a few greens. lots of weeds in the fairways and minimal watering on the back nine. Just not what I was expecting. It is too bad because the design could have been one of the nicest I have played but it was hard to appreciate with the course being neglected like it was. Also, the "clubhouse" appeared to be in a finished off part of a poll shed. It looks like a property that is out of money. I do not play very high end courses and Big Fish was in worse shape when I was there than my local course where I can walk 9 for $12.
