  1. "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Golf" I have not read this book, but for beginners, it seems to have the best reviews.
  2. I wasted my time watching that video. Just more nonsense from would-be instructors.
  3. People are just guessing on this. I would say you need to post video, both face-on and down-the-line.
  4. If I understand correctly, you were using a closed stance. That's something that I do with all full swings, sometimes even more than 25 degrees. If it works well for you consistently, there is no reason not to use it. A closed stance makes it easy to swing inside-out, and I think that is the clubhead path that recreational players should be using.
  5. Yes, those old wooden woods had heavier heads, and they were shorter. The shorter length is the only thing I can think of that might make them easier to use. If you are going to buy on eBay, hopefully you can find some that give all of the specs. Length, lie angle, loft, face angle, swingweight, shaft flex and flex point.
  6. You can learn all of the positions and movements that are necessary for a good swing, but how do you make it all happen perfectly in the one second or so that you have from takeaway to impact? That's why I use the lead shoulder key as explained in the golf swing master key instruction. That is a duplication from my post in another thread, but I think it is relevant to both threads.
  7. You can learn all of the positions and movements that are necessary for a good swing, but how do you make it all happen perfectly in the one second or so that you have from takeaway to impact? That's why I use the lead shoulder key as explained in the golf swing master key instruction .
  8. Double overlap for me. Big hands. XL glove size. Little finger of my trailing hand in groove between index and middle finger of lead hand, just as in the overlap. Ring finger of my trailing hand rides up on index finger of lead hand. This is more comfortable for me, and it puts my wrists a little closer together. I can also use the overlap, and there is no difference in distance, but I am more accurate with the double overlap. Interlock does not work at all with my hands.
  9. You might want to experiment with a stance that is closed to your target line. That makes it easier to swing inside-out, especially with the longer clubs. A hip bump is a key that is supposed to get your body movements to lead/pull your arms down and through impact. Yes, a golf swing should be done with body and hands, not arms and hands. The arms should be passive except for the forearm muscles controlling the hands. The lower body must lead, and I suppose the hip bump works for some, but it never worked very well for me. So, I use my lead shoulder as explained in the golf swing master key instruction.
  10. I keep my head and shoulders pretty much centered in my backswing and until well after impact. When I make my backswing, the weight of my arms, hands, and club make a little natural weight shift to the inside of my right foot. Of course this weight moves back left at some point in my down and through swing, and I finish with most of my weight on my left foot. I cannot imagine doing it any other way.
  11. Clubs that fit. Correct grip and setup. Teach him about swing plane, clubhead path, and clubface angle. Then I would teach him the body powered swing that I use. I have done this with 2 beginners, with excellent results.
  12. IMO, it is not a good swing key. My arms are pulled down and through by my body movements.
  13. The lower body absolutely must lead the downswing, but using a conscious lower body key may leave you with the task of synchronizing everything. That's not easy to do in the one second or so that you have from takeaway to impact. I could never do it consistently on the golf course. So, I use the lead shoulder key as explained in the master key instruction. That makes my lower body movements subconscious and perfect every time. Also, my body pulls my arms down and through, so there is no synchronizing to do between arms and body.
  14. You are swinging with your arms and hands. That's why your body is not in the correct position at impact. You need to swing with your body and hands, as explained in the master key instruction that I use.
  15. Flipping is caused by an independent arm swing that gets ahead of your body movements. You need to do the swinging with your body and hands, not your arms and hands.
  16. Conscious action with the trailing arm may work for some. For others, it may be a disaster. My trailing arm and hand do exactly what they are supposed to do, but I never think about them. It is subconscious, just as my lower body movements are subconscious.
  17. "What was it that pushed you from Crappytown into Goodplayerville? " I started using the instruction called "The Golf Swing and Its Master Key Explained" by Noel Thomas.
  18. Sounds good. Did you drill through the ball? Did you use shafting epoxy? Did you use nylon rope, and what diameter?
  19. 1" long and 2 deg. up would usually fit a player with a 37" wrist-to-floor measurement. If that's what yours is, then I would say you need to get your posture and distance from the ball correct. Then you can swing upright or flat or anywhere in between, whatever swing plane works for you.
  20. There is a way to make the golf swing easy. It's too bad that most instructors don't teach it.
  21. Both a flat and cupped lead wrist at the top have been used successfully by different players. Starting with a very slightly strong grip and a closed stance, I use what feels like a 90 degree rotation in my backswing. At the top, the inside of my lead wrist will be cupped, while the outside is straight. That works well for me to get the clubface back to square or slightly closed at impact. It may not work for others. It may depend on other factors like stance, grip, swing plane, etc.
  22. Sounds like you are: Using an arms and hands swing, instead of swinging with your body. Trying to use an inside-to-inside clubhead path, which becomes outside-in. Trying to pick the ball clean (scooping). Taking your eyes off the ball before impact. You could do a web search for body powered golf swing . Golf Swing Master Key is the one I use, but there may be other good ones. You may also find some free video instruction.
  23. There is nothing secret about it. You should experiment with the amount of rotation in your backswing, to see what works for you. This is also affected by your grip. A strong grip restricts rotation, while a weak grip allows for more rotation. Hogan found that a full rotation (cupped lead wrist at the top) kept him from closing the clubface through impact. However, it is just the opposite for me. It keeps me from leaving the clubface open, and I have found this to be true with some other players. That's why I say experiment .
  24. I have been using it for about 3 years. I came across a long thread about it in another forum. The name of the author is Noel Thomas. I think it is only sold by him on the web. A search for golf swing master key should bring it up. Some have tried to compare it to the teaching of some other instructors, but the comparisons are always flawed.
  25. I pull with my left shoulder. In the instruction I use, it is called the master key. How can that start my lower body better? Subconscious anticipation. It makes my lower body movements lead perfectly every time, and I never have to think about my lower body movements.
