Fuzzy 1, Raddison and Foxfire are both good and as Richie3Jack said, just up the road from each other. Radisson is $48 with a cart, and Foxfire, well, you can get a deal on Weekends after 2pm, 18 w/cart for $25, during the week the are swamped with leagues, so go early. When you call Foxfire ask for Joel, the asst. Pro there (tell him Big Art recommeded it) he will hook you up, a buddy of mine. Personal favorite is Radisson. From the tips, over 7000 yds, with tree and bunker lined fairways, not too hilly, with pretty good greens. It used to be owned by the state and the conditions were pristene, but with private ownership, it isnt kept as well as it could be. Sad to see, really, but a great track, you will enjoy it. Foxfire, is a bit shorter, with slightly faster greens that break more than they look (trust me). Again tree lined, not as many bunkers and the back 9 is quite hilly. Rogues Roost East and Links at Erie Village are similar, both very short, but you need to be accurate. You'll only need driver maybe 3x a round. Of the two, Links is a better layout, great greens (they play a Duramed tour stop there next week in fact) but more expensive. Good courses in Binghamton, Enjoie (where the seniors played last week), Conklin, and Hiawatha Landing....but, must be something about the area, it rains every time I go there too HAHA. Hit me up with a PM, as I live in Syracuse, if you need anything.

Titleist 905R is a traditional looking club @ 460cc. Doesn't seem that big when you are over it. Can pick one up reasonably cheap too!

Watching the ATT at Congressional today, and Peter Kostis did one of his slow-mo swing analysis things on the telestrator of Tom Pernice Jr's swing. You could clearly see him using a club that looked exactly like the photos of one of the Titleist 909s. Must be getting close to public release...

I picked on of these up a month ago, X-Forged 64* with the MD grooves. And I do also play Vokeys 50*, 54*, 58*...So, I can give you my conclusions. First, distance - for me, if I go full out on the 64 it can go about 60-65 yrds, but thats if I jump ion it. I get 125 out of my 50*, 100 out of my 54* and 75 from my 58*. But, like you said it is good for short sided up and downs, I feel this is more of the clubs intent. Second, the feel, it, to me, doesn't feel as good as the vokey. The head seems lighter, and although it comes off the face softer, I sometimes feel like I can't feel where clubhead is. Third, the lok is fine, I like the looks of the club, no issue there. And Lastly the spin. It is ridiculous with the MD grooves. Be prepared to throw the ball right to the hole, cause it will stop immediately on all shots from all lies. Clean lies and a fuller swing, I get 10+ feet of suck-back, so you definitely have to account for that. So, in summary, distance - corresponds with the loft for me, feel - a bit light with the face a bit softer than the vokey, and spins ALOT with the MD grooves. Overall I am happy with the club, and use it inside 40-50 yrds usually, and around the greens if I need it to stop quick. If I need some run out, I will use a choice of one of my other Vokeys. One idea for you.....if you find that you are carrying your 64* as far as your 60*, you prob a re delofting it a bit too much (as a self described closed faced digger that you are) compared to your usual swing.

Yes, you want both hands to match. Common language to this being 'you want both the v's pointing to the same spot'

Letting newbie golfers use your clubs
Magnus replied to tonyy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just like you have those close friends, you know the ones you ask to help you move - prob those 4 or people you fell comfortable asking........Thats about how many people I trust hitting my clubs. In retrospect, and for future reference, if they don't like the fact you say 'no', tell them to kiss your a$$. Oh, and sorry about your club - that does suck. -
Can you wear it when you play? Well, according to this products website, it is not legal for Tournament play. Casual round, why not?

Am I crazy for wanting to play blades?
Magnus replied to QWKDTSN's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Try em out first if you can, they are much different. Will you learn to hit your irons better? Who knows.... will you receive feedback on you bad shots? Um....YES DEFINITELY. Go for it, what do you have to lose? If you don't like them, go back to cavity backs. -
Good stuff.....have to check out the guarantee....thanks for the replies!

Wish there was a way to demo these, I think they are mail order only (or Ebay). How workable is this club? Looking for something to work left or right, thinking of trying out some of Titleist's latest offerings....seems you are happy with it. Did you try it before you bought it? If so, where?

Kenny Perry..."Why won't he make the Ryder Cup???"
Magnus replied to Three Putt's topic in Tour Talk
The guy has one goal - to play the Ryder Cup in his home state. He's been saying it all year. He WANTS it!!!! I'll take a guy who 'wants' it over a guy with more talent any day.... -
You're gonna get all 3 anyways, aren't you? Hahahaha..... Those purple ones will catch some looks, I bet. Go for it!
-
I use them. $5 at Walmart. Neoprene. Take it off and put it in my left hand front pocket, hit my shot, then back on. Not even as hard to use as a headcover on a wood. Its like second nature now. My driver, 3w, hybrid, and putter all have covers - why not my irons. Oh, none on the vokeys - 'the trusty rusties' I call them.
-
Saw all of them in person last week at the Rochester LPGA, and the tv camera definitley adds weight. One of the things I took away from seeing them in person was how much smaller they really are...add that to how straight, far, conssitent they hit every shot... Paula is still in great shape, maybe a bit healthier than some others. Those pants yesterday maybe enhanced that a bit ;)

Yes, thats what happens. The metal oxidizes, and basically the top layer is exposed to the air and that is what rusts. Hit a few balls in sandy soil and off the rust comes, so after a round the sweet spot ans the sole of my vokeys look like raw metal. Usually it rusts right up again in a day or two. So, what you are experiencing is normal.

Has anyone bought from 3balls from EBAY?
Magnus replied to rycur12's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
One word of caution on Ebay.....if there aren't pictures of the ACTUAL item, and I mean lots of pics from every angle, be very, very careful. As for just a description of 'good'....well 'good' to whom? Especially foeged irons, they could be quite beat up, and someone could say, well, they look good. Really look at the sellers feedback rating, this is most important in where I choose to buy items. I will pass on items that I could pay less for through someone with negative feedback comments or a lower percentage. I buy and sell on ebay all the time. These are the rules I live by - learnes through experience, trust me. As for the seller "3 Balls Golf" I found them to be reputable, although I have only purchased 2 new items through them. -
Agree with the Outside-to-In causing the toe-shot. I find myself, when trying to hit the ball too hard, or digging it out of deep rough, to come over the top a bit, and yep - toe it.
-
Bought like 3 dozen of these at the local Dicks Sporting Goods....great deal. Never ever noticed a difference in play.....they look a I ran them against a cheese grater when I hit em with my wedges - just like the $45 ones do :)

Is 9 deg enough bounce for a SW?
Magnus replied to Danfix99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Well, I guess you need to ask yourself, is this club going to be used more in the bunker or fairway? Do you intend on it being a sw from the fairway most often, and use it only out of the sand when you happen to hit it in there? If you intend on it being primarily for the fairway, get the 9. You can always open it more to expose more bounce. On the other hand, a 12 or 14* still can work in the fairway, if the fairway is tightly mowed you can just play it back in your stance, hands forward a bit, and remove some or all of the effective bounce from the club. More bounce=sand, less bounce=fairway - as stated above. I use a 54* Vokey that has 10* bounce, works well in the fairway, and the sand. -
In my opinion, they'll have to drag him off the course at Birkdale.......no way he misses a major. He'll rest/reahb for a month, be at Birkdale, then the PGA. I wonder if he will scale back the schedule in the future, play only in the Majors, the Buicks (for which he is contractualy obligated to play) and the Players, etc...maybe 10 events a year? 12? Wouldn't surprise me... Conjecture all of this, but just what I happened to be thinking after watching a great weekend of golf at Torry!

What do you think of this ball?
Magnus replied to JimmyDoesGolf's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
If you're not looking for something that spins, or is soft, then honestly, all the 'rocks' (as I call them) seem pretty equal. Go with whatever is cheapest until your game is where you feel the need to 'feel' the ball, etc... Anything in the -
The Best Sounding Driver In Your Opinion
Magnus replied to r7 425's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Gotta go with the Titleist 905R....my current backup, but love the feel and sound when hit right. Sumo, Sumo^2.....ugh.....maybe if I cranked one over the fence in softball? -
help get rid of this out-to-in swing path...
Magnus replied to itzzzberny's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
There are a number of drils to correct this on the Titleist web site under TPI. You can join for free and watch all the videos, good stuff.. http://www.mytpi.com/ Alternatively or in addition to, you can try the 'inside approach' sold at virtually any golf store. It guarantees to stop your slice in 6 swings. All I know is I use it, and it keeps me from coming over the top if my swing gets a bit too steep. It may get you a it too inside-out, instead of inside-square-inside, but it will definitely get rid of the slice!
