How do you mark your Titleist(or any other golf ball)?
cwcaesar replied to WTCC_golf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Three horizontal red dots over the 'Titleist'. I chose this as it is easy to do and it matches the red dots on my Scotty really nicely. -
Mizuno....what does the symbol represent?
cwcaesar replied to Dub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yes, it is a 'Road Runner'. I won't wear any other shoe for distance running. They are not as popular as some, but I think they are better shoes. Kinda like their irons, not a big market share, but a better product none the less. -
Scotty Cameron putter - shortening the shaft?
cwcaesar replied to apex53's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I sent mine into Scotty to have it done right. The place that I bought mine fron only had a 35" and 34". I prefer the 33". So I bought one and sent it into the custom shop. I had it cut to 33", re-gripped, and put the extra heavy weights in the head. I switched from a mallet to a blade and I really like the extra mass in the head, so a straight shaft cut would have been a step in the wrong direction for me. Also, the idea of shortening the putter length and making it feel lighter does not only apply to Cameron putters. If you cut any putter down it will feel lighter. -
I carry 4 wedges. 60*, 56*, 52*, & PW.

Pefect putting machine does it work
cwcaesar replied to obsessedgolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Looks nice, but I can't justify that kind of money right now. Maybe next year. -
How many clubs would you carry?
cwcaesar replied to PiKapp23's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I would add a 64* wedge, a strong 3 wood, a 2 iron (just for fun), and a 5 or 6 iron hybrid for chipping. Or maybe that Odyssey chipper. I imagine that you would see a lot of creativity in people's bags. -
what's your favorite(modern)blade
cwcaesar replied to GOLFSALOT00's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a set of MP-14's that I love, but I don't know if that would qualify as modern. I just love the entire Mizuno line-up. Although, I think that the Miura blades are as nice a looking iron as I have ever seen. I have yet to hit them though. -
The other day I shot a 69. This is the first time under par for me. It was a par 70 course, so I got the added bonus of a round in the 60's. My ball striking was as usual for late season form, but i putted brilliantly. everything that didn't go in the hole was within 18 inches. No three putts on the day, and three drained from outside 20 feet. Putting is usually my nemesis, but after a half a dozen rounds and several hours on the practice green I think that I am getting used to my new Cameron.

The tour version has a shaft upgrade and is $200 more expensive. Really nice driver, but I got better performance out of a MP-600 which cost $399 instead of $599. I know that people are all into the new shaft technology lately, so that may be your thing.

Best driver out there
cwcaesar replied to amazinggolfer0732's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Don't overlook the Mizuno MP-600. I personally hit it further and straighter than the Taylormade Tour TP that I had my heart set on when I went to the store. It was $200 cheaper as well. Just go and hit several and you may find one that surprises you. -
I would get the blades if anything. I thing there is that attraction to play the same clubs as the best player in the world, but I don't think that they are a better iron than some of the sets i have in the closet. I think that they would be fun to hit, but I don't think that I will actually go out and get a set.

Why is there still a fear of the Lob Wedge?
cwcaesar replied to Stacey_E's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My lob wedge is the most used club in the bag, other than the putter and maybe the driver. I use it from 80 yards and in as long as I don't have to keep it low. I could probably use another wedge for chipping and other situations, but I have been using the lobbie for several years now and I am more comfortable with the loft of it. It is very versatile for me. I tried to switch around to the 52 for the chips and such, but I blade that way more frequently than is normal for my game, so I will stick to the 60 for now. I have actually thought about adding a 64, but I already have 14 clubs. -
Looking to buy used blades, recommendations?
cwcaesar replied to King Cobra II's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have an old set of Mizuno MP-14 irons that are mostly used on the practice range that I really love. If I didn't have so much invested in my MP-57 set, I would surely have the MP-14s in the bag. The MP-29 irons are really nice as well. Actually, since Mizuno makes the world's finest irons, you really can't go wrong with any of their offerings. When Tiger was making his way up the ranks he used a 're-labeled' Mizuno. If you scour the pawn shops then I am sure that you can find an old set of blades in any brand that will be great for your intended purpose. -
Tour Preferred vs MP-57 vs X-20 Tour
cwcaesar replied to Travis13's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Mizuno makes the best irons in the world, and with your handicap I think that you will easily be able to handle them. I got mine when I was about a 12 or 13 handicap. With the feedback they provided to me and the swing changes that I then was able to make, I have pulled that number down to around a 5 or 6. This iron has helped my game so much, not by masking my swing faults, but by helping me to improve my swing. The feel is truly amazing. And there is a good bit of forgiveness in them, yet they are still responsive; an excellent balance. I love my MP-57's! -
Best round ever! I finally broke 70. I shot a 69 on a par 70. This was my first round under par. I don't thing my ball striking was extra good, yet I chipped better than normal and I made putts from everywhere. I am finally getting the feel of that Scotty Cameron. This round followed up an even par 72 the last round that I played.

How many golf balls do you carry in your bag when you play?
cwcaesar replied to titaniummd's topic in Golf Talk
Usually about 6 to 12, not including practice balls and finders. -
I agree, it is a cool game. Although, I am not quite adept at it yet. I find that I die a lot. I can't wait to get to the space stages, they look really fun.

What kind of putter do you use?
cwcaesar replied to King Norre's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Traditional. I tried the other types, but don't care for them. -
I bought new irons and that helped me figure out that I had been hitting everything off of the toe. I love the feedback of my MP-57's. Now I have really consistent ball flight and contact, and have shaved off 3-5 strokes off my handicap. I guess I might call it a minor epiphany.

Mizuno makes a really nice line-up of wedges. The best thing is that they are forged so you get a nice feel off of them. And, isn't the short game all about feel?

My new driver just broke :(
cwcaesar replied to Armonster20's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I had that happen to my driver head several years ago. I just took the shaft and stuck it in my 3 wood. That thing tested out at a X-stiff after that. I didn't need that flex for my swing speed, but I liked the solid feel over the regular flex stock shaft that I did have. I switched to a X-stiff shaft for the Driver so they would match up well together. I got really good with this Driver/3 Wood combo, but they were showing some age after 4 years in the bag and I replaced them last month. The old pair was Taylormade R580 Driver and 3 wood with Graffalloy Blue Shafts and the same grips, so they looked like big and little brother. I probably wouldn't go that route again, though. I suggest you don't re-use the old shaft. Keep it around though as it can make a great alignment aid to keep in your bag that is very light weight. -
I am not too sure whether or not I could tell the difference in a $900 set and a $300 set assuming they were similarly constructed, i.e. both cast or forged, both players irons or game improvement, etc. I can tell a difference between a forged iron and a cast iron. I can tell a huge difference between a players iron/blade and a game improvement iron.

Bridgestone B330 RX
cwcaesar replied to golf hungry's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I can't wait to get out and play this ball. I feel that I am the target customer for it as my swing speed is just under 105 with the driver and I love that soft compression feel. -
2008 Bridgestone ball lineup
cwcaesar replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I can't wait to try the new B330 RX. My swing speed is just under 105 and I have been wanting a softer compression ball. I guess I will wait and see how it stacks up to the Pro V1 I currently use.
