  1. Hockey- Lots of similar muscle groups used in shooting and a golf swing-plus a lifetime of hockey lends itself to a strong base and good balance. Yoga-has really helped my flexibility. Softball just kills my golf swing-I figured out last summer I can either have a good softball swing or a good golf swing, but not both.
  2. I wouldn't buy a used wedge online, but I've had really good luck at golf shows on used wedges. This spring, I got the wedges in my signature for $45, and they seem as if they were used for maybe a year.
  3. Oh, how I love my SS 3.5. My only complaint, is that when my swing is grooved, its not shorter enough than my driver to be a layup option.
  4. Great choice. I've had one for two seasons now, it has well around 200 rounds on it, and not a problem at all.
  5. A good wedge swing will leave you with some curlies to pick off the ball, but nothing to make it unplayable. And, at least it stays white, unlike when you shred a Pro-V and have that ugly yellow staring out at you.
  6. I'm at the course most days. Probably play 90 holes a week on an average week.
  7. They just aerated our tee boxes this week, and it sucks. They haven't cut them in about a week, either, so there's plugs all over, and long grass. More bothersome to me is when the tee box is 45 feet wide, and they put the tee markers like 10 feet apart, and find the unlevel spot to do it.
  8. Exactly the same reason I use the Epoch tees. I bought a bag at the start of the year, have played somewhere around 80 rounds, and have at least enough to last me the rest of the year. I'd have more if my regular playing partner didn't need to borrow one every round. I've broken exactly one. I lose them sometimes, and I've had a few "wear out"-the edges of the top get rounded over and a ball has a hard time sitting up there. But yeah, I enjoy the simple fact that I can throw one tee in my pocket and go.
  9. They keep greens like that? I thought it was some sort of fungus/virus. Our greens get a touch of it in the spring time, but it gets remedied pretty quickly.
  10. Yes. My game went missing sometime between the end of my round on Saturday and when i stepped up to the first tee today. Not completely gone, but it was a struggle. I scored ok, but a lot of lucky shots. Thin 8 irons running up next to the hole, pulled wedges getting great kicks, etc. At least my chipping and putting where there, but anything outside of 10 yards was a complete crap shoot. I know what drove it away, however-over swinging and getting lazy with my lower body. I'll give my irons a nice warm bath tomorrow, and give them and my woods a week off. Hopefully they'll forgive my transgressions and bring my game back.
  11. For me-I stopped going out and trying to hit the ball and start trying to play golf. It finally clicked for me that smooth is fast, not fast is fast. I've added distance AND accuracy, but more importantly, consistency with my swing. That, and thinking "3/4" with my iron swing-I'm no longer over swinging, hitting the ball just as far, and a lot more accurately. Now, just to start sinking some birdie putts....
  12. Sometimes I'll get into a bad funk of doing it with my 3 Wood off the deck, and its almost always because I've let the ball creep forward in my stance.
  13. Not really. I played in a scramble yesterday and used a cart for the first time since I've had this bag (2 years). My bag is near worthless on a cart-it won't stay in oriented in a way that reaching clubs is easy. The pockets are a pain in the butt to get to on a cart, and the valuables pocket is almost completely unaccessible. Which is fine, for the two times a year (maybe) I use a cart. But if I was cart bound, I would definitely not use a stand bag (or at least MY stand bag) every day and put up with the hassle.
  14. After getting my new (to me) irons, I'm extremely happy with my gear. I also recently refinished my putter, and I'm back in love with it (the black finish was wearing off, so a few minutes with a wire brush on the dremel and its looking like brushed nickel). The only thing I would change is my 52* wedge-I'd like to get one that matches the look of my other wedges a little closer, and maybe move to a 50 or 51.
  15. I have a small microfiber cloth that does a good job of drying my hands-both on sweaty and rainy days. I also have one of these for disc golfing that I've used, but I tend to keep it in my disc bag and just use the towel for ball golf: http://everything-disc-golf.amazonwe...source=froogle
  16. I used to throw up before hockey games all the time. I've never been that worked up for golf, but it could be because I've never been overly competitive at it. I do get some nerves if I'm playing with someone new or if there's a large group at a tee box or green, but I like it-it gives me something to push against to focus a little better. Try some ginger root extract before playing. It works well for upset stomach type stuff.
  17. That'd be an option if I had any desire at all to wear foot joys. They seem comfortable enough, but I just hate their style. I tried the teflon tape, it looked like it would work, and it made it almost 18 holes. The next option is liquid electrical tape. If that doesn't hold, its super glue and replace the shoes after this year.
  18. they are Q-lok. I never had any problem with them until i bought some black widow spikes. The spike in that spot ripped out about 3 times (which never happened with stinger spikes). Now the stinger spikes won't stay in.
  19. teflon tape! Genius! I'll try that today.
  20. A sleeve of my "gamer" balls (coincidentally, Gamers at the moment). 6 or 7 found balls. 4 or 5 gloves. a bag of epoch tees 2 sharpies a gaggle of pencils one stainless steel water bottle sunscreen bug spray rain hood wind/rain jacket at least $20 in small bills and change 3-in-1 pocket brush divot tools microfiber cloth for my glasses
  21. I've run into a frustrating problem recently. I purchased a new pair of Puma shoes this spring, and after changing spikes last week (after about 45 rounds or so walking in them) one spike recepticle will not hold a spike. Or rather, it will, but not for long. I can put it in, and it will "lock" but not nearly as tightly as it should-I can lock and unlock it with my fingers. Now, I love the shoes, but I just need to keep that spike in there. Obviously, superglue will work, but I'd like the shoes to outlast the next change of spikes. I tried loc-tite, but that didn't work very well. Any suggestions?
  22. Last year, when I took up golf again (and was playing at about a 30 hdcp), I bought one of them. I assume you are referring to the 60 degree mess of a club. I liked it for getting out of the sand, as others have said. I had plenty of other things to worry about. That being said, I outgrew it really quickly. It was next to impossible to use for anything else, and this spring I bought a proper set of wedges and have seen my short game improve (through proper tools and doing some work learning how to do it). But not all Alien stuff is total crap. I have an Alien 8802-style putter that I don't hate at all.
  23. +1 for the Vaporlite. Its light, the legs work, and I can reach everything I need while walking with the bag on my back.
  24. Well, you all made me feel better about it. Its been an up and down week-I've been working on the game this summer. I started at a 28 from last year, with the goal of breaking 90 consistently. Recently, i started being able to get close without playing to my potential-i'd still have a few blow ups and be at 91, 90. Then on sunday, it clicked. Not only was I going to break 90, i had a chance to play my first 9 under 40. Our back is only a 35, and I was 2 over going into 17. All i had to do was go bogey-bogey on two par fours. I went double-double. Then today, I was stroking the ball, and had the eagle opportunity and the chance to have a great round, and no. Luckily, I held it together after that. It is a lot more fun now, being able to be made at missed birdies instead of scrambling to make 6s and 7s.
  25. I'll take the other side of the argument. GigaGolf makes quality clubs. Their heads are made from the same types of steel as the big boys. Their molds are "similar" (the same) in design. Their clubmaking is also good-I've seen a couple of sets and they are well made-no stray bits of epoxy, ferrules that are turned to sit flush, grips are installed properly. I did a lot of research on GigaGolf, and couldn't find anything saying that they made poor quality clubs at all. I was looking to buy some new irons from them, and would have had I not wrapped my 4 iron around a tree and needed a new set the next day. I happily game a component driver, and the set of irons I have now are my first from an OEM. Don't let the nay-sayers give you buyers remorse-you bought quality component clubs from a quality maker who stands behind their product. They'll serve you well and will perform the same as the used Callaways would.
