It's hard for me to say, big Football fan (go Bears), but the NFL stars are just local stars! Nobody, but here in US, knows about Romo, Brady or Manning! Local stars! Sad but true! Step outside US and everything you hear is Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Beckam! Big companies, like Mcdonalds, Coca Cola, IBM notice that. Heck, even Tiger Woods and Kobe are more known outside US (Biggest US Sport Exports PGA and NBA). Nobody likes our version of the football. Big companies know that, because it's a simple math for them: what is bigger market: 300.000.000 people or other 6 billion? Pure math! Also, about the TV, last world cup viewership was so big, that the last superbowl 90 million people was joke. Even african cup, and Copa America have more viewers. Euro 2008 had viewership of about 3 to 3 and a half billion people! Go compete with that! That's why I like and I watch football(soccer)!

Electronic Golf glove to improve your game
RaLos18 replied to titaniummd's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I hope the glove doesn't give you "electric shock" every time if your grip is not correct! -
One of my golfing buddies use to have similar problem! He switched from TM r5 Dual N TI Driver 450cc to GBBII 415cc 10* regular, and he fixed the slice. Funny but true, I know! We have about same handicaps, he sacrificed the distance for about 5-15 yards on his drives, but he gained a lot in accuracy, which is more important, for high handicappers (my opinion), than the distance! Go ahead and try it!

If you have right tools and supplies, do it yourself! If not, tho cost of the tools and supplies might be higher than re-gripping the clubs by pro shop. You will definitely need a Bench Vise and a rubber vise clamp for holding shaft. Then you will need a double sided grip tape and grip solvent solution. I hope you have garage or other isolated (from the living area) work space because the gripping solution smells! The vise clamp, double sided tape and the grip solvent solution will cost you around $20. The grips, depends of what kind of grips you like, between $1.50 and $9. Also, check YouTube for some instructional re-gripping videos. If you've decided to regrip yourself, please inform us how it went! Post some pictures! Good Luck!

My average is 200-220 on a good day! One time (in the band camp ) I've hit 260! The fairway was downhill! Mainly I focus on the straightness of the drive, not the distance. I've tried, probably, 5-10 drivers, with different lofts, different shafts, all of them promising +20-30 yards. The end result was always the same with a minor differences. My current driver gives me the consistency of the shot and that is all I need. But, I must admit, I would really like to hit, once, a 300 yards drive!

The entire week on TV, nothing but Sergio, Phil and Tiger left toe nail (or whatever about Tiger). I love Harrington. Always below the radar! Nobody talks about him! Last year, The Open, 1st major win, he caught them (the golf journalists) off guard! "He is a One timer, and I don't think we'll be hear from him soon" July 2008, The Open, Biggest story, The Shark! And what happens, BAM Harrington again! August 2008, PGA Championship, Sergio, Sergio, Sergio, Phil, Phil, Phil, Tigers knee, Tigers Knee, Tigers Knee. And what happens! From the left field, Paddy again. Wait a minute lads! I'm here too, and I'm going to win! Second straight. Way to Go Padraig Harrington, Slàinte Mhath!!!

After Mark Calcavecchia and John Daly completed the final round in the Tournament Players' Championship in 2 hours and 3 minutes, both were fined by the U.S. P.G.A. for playing too quickly. Daly shot an 80 and Calcavecchia an 81. http://www.scigolf.com/scigolf/19th/strange2.htm

USGA Announces Rules Changes on golf club grooves
RaLos18 replied to Clubchucker's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Does this mean, let say for example, you are a pro, and you buy 200-300 wedges that will last you until the end of your career, will USGA still "grandfather" you in? -
I Guess this will be turned in to a project! OK, I will post BEFORE and AFTER Pictures! I'll go to a local Golf Store tomorrow and ask the price.

My long time (10+ years) next door neighbor (88 years old), who is moving in AZ Friday, called my son today and gave him an old MacGregor Leather bag (big brown and green behemoth) with, I can easily say, 3 sets of mixed clubs from the sixties and seventies. He knows that my son is crazy about golf. There are old MacGregor irons, with Tommy Armour signature on it, some Wilson and Presidential irons with strange numbers like 10, 11 and 12 (back then they were calling the sand wedge SAND IRON) and the complete set 2-SW Titleist Acushnet AC 108 irons with Tungsten alloy inserts. The shafts are True Temper D1 Regular. The Grips are Golf Pride, but in very bad condition and deteriorating on some of the clubs. My son fell in love in the Titleist clubs. He wants to play with them, but they are too long for him. Do you think is a good idea to go to the Golf Professional shop and shorten or replace the shafts and change the grip so he can use them? My son is bugging me whole afternoon to ask this question! Also, I would like to thank you all for your overwhelming response for my last week question about my son first time on the golf course. We were having a great time. Thank you again!

whats the most you've paid for a putter??
RaLos18 replied to kekoa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
$139 for a Odyssey White Hot XG 2-Ball Putter 35" I hated that thing!!! I'm glad I get rid of it! Good resale value! I almost got the same price that I've paid for it. I switched to Ping ($89). -
New Putter or wedge? Which to add first?
RaLos18 replied to jrode's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My opinion is new putter before the wedge -
What make of glove do you wear...

Last year, prior round of golf, I was searching for my glove, Callaway Tour Series Glove, but I could not find it. I was switching bags and I probably left my glove in the other bag. One of the guys that was playing with me gave me his spare Titleist Players Glove. What a difference! Like not wearing the glove at all! After the round, like a good gentleman, I offered to pay for the glove but the guy didn't want the money! He ask me to buy him the exact same glove and give him back next time we play. Sure, first thing monday morning, I went in GG and I purchased the same glove for him, and several spare for me. Since than, the only glove I play with is Titleist Players Glove. I know it is a little bit expensive, they don't last long like some other gloves, but the feel (that is my opinion) with that glove is great! -
I'm taking my son first time on the golf course tomorrow! He is very excited! He loves the game in every aspect. He was on the range more than 20 times since April, sometimes with me, sometimes with his peers from the school junior league. He knows basic rules and basic golf etiquette and has a good swing for a second grader (not my words but from a local PGA pro that saw him on the range couple weeks ago). My question is: do some of you have any suggestion for me, should I give him some tips and points or should I just leave him to enjoy the game? Do you have any golf wisdom's that you picked up from your father, grandfather or older brother? Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

I love golfing solo! I usually play solo, local 9 hole muni, early in the morning. I love it. No pressure, no talking, just you, the course, the club(s) and the ball. It's a Zen thing. Sometimes I don't even keep the score! Shank the ball - who cares!!! Deep rough - I love it! 3-putts - Bring it on! Best 2 hours in a day!

Actually I have two bags! First one is the Callaway Big Bertha Cart Bag, Black, that I won on the golf outing raffle last year. Good bag. I use this bag occasionally when I use cart. Second one is a TaylorMade Stand bag, my "working horse". Black and Silver color scheme, very light, lots of room in the compartments, very deep and functional. I kept both bags, not because they are "best bags" in the world, there are better bags on the market, but because the logos of the respected companies are small and subtle, and as a Graphic Designer, those things are important to me. I hate big, flashy logos on amateur bags. It just does not look right.

My wife also got me one, shorts, from Target. Cotton. Very comfortable pants. I wear them occasionally. I like the color scheme. Navy blue, with light and dark green pleats and really tiny white pin stripe. Damn, I've start talking like Martha Stewart

One of my goals for 2008 is to play on a Links course. Being stuck in the midwest it's kind of tuff. There are couple decent links here in Chicagoland, but many of them are private clubs, very expensive and hard to get in. One of my co-workers played last year on a links course somewhere in the Washington State, and he says that the feeling and the play is completely different then the courses we are playing around here. Can't wait to try!!!

On the range today: Coldplay - Viva La Vida album Casual Play: last time was the classical playlist on my ipod!

Callaway XTT CG. Very comfortable shoe! They were $120 at GG, but I used $30 off coupon. With the tax they came around $100. I play around 20-25 rounds a year. This is my second season with them and they are still in great shape. 90% time I walk the course.

Comparing two great golfers from two different eras is very difficult! Like comparing two different Formula One champion drivers, Juan Manuel Fangio from the 50's and Michael Schumacher from the late 90's and early 2K. Both great drivers, but different times, different cars and different tracks. Not to mention different technologies. Clearly, the advancement in technology, like graphite, lighter shafts, advancement in golf balls, COR and MOI in the clubs, even the soft spikes, gives Tiger the advantage. I can easily say Tiger Woods is the Greatest golfer of our era. Jack was the Greatest Golfer of his era. Bobby Jones was the greatest golfer of his era. Harry Vardon was the greatest golfer of his era.
