1) Accomplished. I had back to back rounds of 92 in July. 2) Close but no cigar. I finished the season at 26.0. 3) Not even close. I am really struggling with distance on my driver.

Down .4 to 26.0. Down 3.5 for the season. Shave another 20 strokes off and I can be like the rest of the guys that post in this thread...

Here in Helena, MT the two public courses charge 30-35$ to walk 18. Our one country club charges around $45, I haven't played there for a couple years so things may have changed. If I want to drive an hour and a half I can play the Nicklaus Old Works course for around $60-$95 depending on the time of year, day of the week, etc.. Includes Cart and range balls.

I am starting to get a little optimistic on improving my game. My last two 18 hole rounds I shot a 92. I am hoping two in a row means it's more of a pattern and not a fluke! But in between those 18s I shot a 54 over a 9 hole round. On a side note @iacas has posted this blog entry on breaking 100: https://thesandtrap.com/blogs/entry/124-breaking-100/#comment-1101

For the first time in my life I have more than one round under 100 in a season. Last Saturday I shot a personal best +21 92 and this Saturday I shot another personal best +20 92. I think I should throw my clubs away now! After this last round my HI is trending 26.4 so I am headed in the right direction there. I am failing miserably on #3. Looking at my "Typical" drive on Game Golf this season, it is at 188yds. I really need to get some range work in.

Down .5 to 28.5. Slowly working my way down.

I have had a roller coaster ride the last few weeks. 124, 50,51,63!,109, and a 92 yesterday for my best round ever. My 3rd time breaking 100. I am hoping for a couple more this year. But it seems these good rounds are almost always followed by bad ones!

I voted 7-10. 1 in play, 1 in my pocket and 2-3 sleeves in my bag.

This and I wish I had taken a lesson right away. Now I am fighting 20+ years of bad habits.

How did it go? 139 slope...that is crazy!

29.2->29.5->29.0 over the last two revisions.

My guess is this is one of the biggest problems of golfers in this thread, the dreaded blow up hole. I don't know how many sub 100 rounds I would have had if not for this happening. The million dollar question is how to prevent it from happening or at least limit the damage.

Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
pecos24 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I voted about the same as last year and yes for next year. Looking at my handicap index I have improved 1.2 from a year ago but for a high handicapper such as myself that is not much of an improvement. I have been working on my driver a lot this spring and I am definitely seeing improvements but of course my iron play is suffering. Hopefully I get enough practice and play in this year to make a significant improvement. -
I avoided the Sand Trap completely the last couple of weeks for just this reason. Depressing to talk about golf when your game is not improving or in my case going backwards. I am still working on those tee shots as well. For the most part they have been better this season but the last couple of rounds at league I have had some issues with pushes and slices. I cleaned up most of it this past Wednesday but I still had a couple holes where I got in trouble off the tee. I would like to find that cheaper spin ball as well. I wish I had an answer for you. I had been playing recycled Pro Vs for that reason but I honestly didn't really like the recycled ball. So I started playing the Calloway Hex Control ball from Costco, but they don't seem to hold the green like the Pro Vs do. I lose too many balls to pay $48 dozen. :) I am kind of a < $20 a dozen guy.

Things are kind of quiet in this thread... I don't have much for success stories this spring. I only have a couple of 18 hole rounds in this spring, a 104 and a 118. My 9 hole rounds are ranging from low 50s to high 50s. I have been concentrating quite a bit on my driver this year trying to improve my consistency and distance off of the tee. I have had some success...using my Game Golf stats, my typical driving distance is up 24 yds from last season(194 from 170). Per usual I struggle getting it all together, driver, irons, putting, etc. Hoping the weather continues to improve so I can get out a little more. I am not much for golfing in the rain and snow we have had off and on the last couple of weeks.

Down .3 to 29.2. Almost time for the next revision...

I edit as best as I can. I know on the green that my putting locations are probably not terribly accurate. If I forget a tag it most often happens on the green and then I am trying to remember hole location and where I putted from. (And my memory is probably not the best)

I like this approach Dave. I will try to keep this in mind out on the course. I believe you are right, when you are laying up a lot of the time you don't have a specific target in mind. I got my self in trouble trying to lay up after a poor tee shot, I had plenty of room for a safe shot and ended up pulling my ball into a pond.

This was the exact problem I had, my swing for many years was pretty much all arms. Now I have many other problems to fix but I think I finally got over this one.

What a cool idea! It is going to be a while before you get to my area, Helena, MT. We have 2 public and 1 private course. Not close to the best golf in Montana but you have some choices. I'll give you a run down on the courses when you get a little closer.

I only have one official round in this year. It was too high to be used for my index calculation and the score that dropped off was not being used either. So I am still the same as last fall, 29.5.

Thank you for the replies they are much appreciated! Now that I finally have a tripod I will be recording more frequently, I can see where that can be a great tool for not just posting here but analyzing my swing at home. I went to the range yesterday but did not record I wish I would have! I think I am doing a pretty good job on the back swing but I still have some work to do after impact.
