I've been in his shoes and my thought process was exactly the same as his... * Its a public course and my money is just as good as the next guy. * I always ride so that I can get to my errant shot as quick as possible. * I always let faster groups play through. * I always play ready golf. I felt obligated to play as fast as possible because of my bad play which probably contributed to the bad but I tried to aware of those playing with me and those behind me. I did invest time and money in lessons and getting better... Nowadays, I often find myself waiting on the tee box for guys who spend more time admiring themselves and each rather golfing

Pujols does have arm issues... That's how he ended up at 1st base. He was initially an outfielder but he had that elbow problem in 2003. he needed the ligament replacement surgery then but he managed to keep himself in the lineup by agreeing to not make any throws from the outfield. They would have the short stop run out to him for him to make a short throw and let them handle it from there. They settled on 1st base because the long throws would be virtually eliminated... and he turned out to be a gold glover...

Pujols... Aside from being the most feared in baseball for quite sometime... he is probably the smartest player I have ever watched. I watched a game last year where the Cardinals were tied late in a game... nothing exciting about either offense... he came to the plate, fouled off 7 pitches, and ended up drawing a walk. The stole 2nd base... and then on the next pitch scored from 2nd on an infield hit (part his hustle and part his awareness of the defense around him). he ended up being the winning run... and I thought to myself, "that is why this guy is the mvp"... he's a power hitter, that hits for average, has arguably the best eye in baseball (Ichiro might be a little better), and can beat you in a number of different ways. Oh yeah, and he's a Gold Glover @ 1st base.

I did the same thing on my Yes putter grip and had the same results. The yellow and white had turned ugly but now the grip looks like new.

I picked up a used one at Golf Galaxy today for $170. I am happy with my Nike driver but I heard sooooo many great thing about the G15 that I had to give it a try. If its works for me as well as everyone else then I'll be making a switch. I am very optimistic.

I used to a course and practice all the time by myself. One of the resident old timers came up to me and asked if I wanted to play in their group. Their group ranges from 4 to 16 depending on the weather. So I started playing with them weekly and meeting the others in his group. As I met the others, they would mention to me that they had other groups that they played in as well and they would invite me out. So i would play with them and then meet more new people and so on and so forth. As far as moving and meeting new people to play with, going to the local public course is an easy way. Here in Chicago, they often times put singles or 2 somes in groups of 4, especially when the course is crowded so you meet new people by default. Also, if Im in a 2some and playing faster than the 2some in front of me, they will usually allow ius to play through. If they seem fairly cordial, I will ask them if they just want to play with us as a 4some. it's worked out pretty good. And the driving range is always a great place to meet players.

I keep a wet towel and brush on the course and wipe off the club after every shot... Maybe once every 6 weeks I give em a 5 or 10 min soak in scalding hot water and few drops of Turtle Wax car wash... light scrub of the grooves and wipe dry...

I've played the Nike one's... they go high and straight which is just fine for me. it helped gain my confidence back after battling a slice for a while. the sound is what it is. you can't control the sound and if it yields the results you want then go for it. you game is more important than someone elses preference. I play on public courses all over the chicago area. constantly hearing planes, trains and automobiles. if all I heard was a loud driver a couple times a round, I would be ecstatic.

No 3's in your bag unless you're good?
og512 replied to drPheta's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My handicap came down tremendously after I added a 3 wood and 3 hybrid to my bag... the 3 wood allows me to be more accurate on narrow fairways and my 3 hybrid is a wonderful rescue club for me. And I hit my 3 iron much more consistently than my 5 wood. My club selection varies based on the course Im going too... -
How to increase club head speed???
og512 replied to jallen100's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Same here... my ego led me to believe that harder meant faster. I started stretching more and became more fluid and I learned to relax it was like a whole new world opened up. -
I had the exact same problem... I was told by observers on the course that I was leaving the face open at impact... there were 3 things that I did to fix my issue: 1. My grip... I had to do some experimenting at the range to find what was comfortable for me (i.e. place of club in left hand and loosening up the right hand. I was gripping it way too tight. 2. I choked up on the grip and moved a little closer to the ball. this was a big help espcially considering the length of these drivers these days the fact that Im only 5' 6". 3. I shortened my back swing for while. This helped me stay in better position on the downswing and at impact and it helped me develop a consistent tempo. 4. Leave my ego in the clubhouse... hitting it a mile doesn't do much if i'm hitting my second shot from the wrong fairway. I focused more on tempo and constitent impact and stopped tensing up to try to crush it off the tee. I did lose some distance, about 20 yards. But i would much rather do that and have a longer iron into the into green from my own fairway rather than trying to recover from a neighboring fairway. Good luck.

I went to The Golf Center in Des Plaines. Heated and covered tees. And they have 90 percent of hitting area plowed and so you can see the targets and the bounce and roll were just fine.

I love that course. I usually get to play it once a month. Do you prefer the Orange or the Blue Course?
-
yes ma'am... 50 on Saturday and mid to high 40's on Monday and Tuesday. I'm headed to the Golf Center in Des Plaines. The heated tee boxes and mild weather should make it fairly comfortable. I am genuinely excited. lol.
-
yes, yes, yes... I am suffering from the same boredom in the Chicago Area. I go to Golfsmith a couple times a week to hit balls and try out different clubs. It is supposed to be in the mid-high 40's in the next week so I am going to a covered/heated outdoor driving range and hit balls til I pass out. lol I've been accumulating equipment all winter so now I need to decide which I want to keep and which I wan to re-sell Welcome and good luck with the 27 per week.

During a round, I wipe my irons after every shot but I still clean them after every round or practice session with a couple drops of Turtle Wax car wash soap, warm water and a 2 sided brush (stiff and soft). it has an unbelievable shine. Once a month I polish em with Black Magic wheel polish. Again, unbelievable shine and it makes cleaning them easier.

I have wide feet. I'm in a FJ 11-Wide and it the most comfortable shoe I own. They look great and feel great and not that bad on the wallet.

I am assuming you are talking about the practice range for practice and not warming up before a round. The range used to get me in trouble because I would just go out there and hack away with driver and I started developing bad habits from trying to crush the ball too impress others. So now I try to simulate a round as much as I can. For example Each hole is 2-4 balls. I download a score card from a random course on the web and take it with me. Par 3 - 2 balls (Iron to one of the target greens and wedge to a short target green) par 4 - 3 balls (Driver or 3W, iron to a target green and wedge to short target green) par 5 - 4 balls (Driver, 3w or Hybrid, iron to a target green wedge to short target green) I never use the same iron or wedge on back to back to 'holes' After about 50-60 balls, I play "hole in one" with the rest of the bucket where I try to drop the ball on one of the practice greens as close to the flag as possible. It really helps with accuracy and guageing the distance for my iron. I do this til I'm out of balls. I know it sounds a little unorthodox but I get mutliple swings with every club in the bag and every swing has a purpose. Plus, I realized that in a round all the clubs in the bag are in play for so I try to practice that way. Sometimes, after a round, I will notice that I may struggled in a particular area or with a particular shot. if that's the case, then I will go and practice to work only on the problem. Other than that, i stick to the above method. Having played several organized sports I learned that I (and many others) play the same way they practice. When I was hacking on the range I would hack on a course. So now I focus and practice with a purpose and my rounds and score have seen a drastic improvment.
