  1. So I guess that means the 3-iron is a snap to hit and you guys all have it mastered since it is so much easier to hit and shorter than a driver. Oops, I see you two don't even carry 3-irons.....couldn't hit them, huh??? Guess that's why you find the driver to be such a mystery to hit. Hackers.
  2. The blades are nearly exact copies of titleist blades from 10 years ago. They have to make a model that is a clone of the Clubs Tiger played when he was with Titleist.
  3. I think there are alot of people who are deeply offended that there are guys who hit it alot farther than they do. I have played with a number of people who get so twisted when I hit my driver 50 yards past them hole after hole. It F-s up their whole game. Next thing they are doing is swinging out of their shoes and hitting it all over the place. I think that accounts for alot of the venom I have read in this thread. Some of you have issues. There are plenty of people out there who hit the driver a mile but don't know how to score. To the guy that thinks the driver is the hardest club to hit. That is one of the stupidest things I have heard in a while. For someone who practices the driver is perhaps the easiest club to hit. Its got the biggest face, it doesn't take alot of skill to hit it far, and when your hitting a driver you are generally aiming at a gigantic target, all you gotta do is get it in the fairway.
  4. My golf oriented pet peeve is golf websites where people post their handicaps. It seems just about everyone is a low handicapper. The I read some of the posts by these "low handicappers" and think to myself there is no way a 5.6 handicap would be asking this stupid question I am reading because a 5.6 handicap wouldn't need to ask such a question. Please post some swing video to go with your handicap or better yet please post the link to your local section of the PGA where your OFFICIAL handicap is posted along with your scores. If you don't have an official handicap you shouldn't even try to guess at it. I could rant about this for half an hour but its thanksgiving so I will play nice.
  5. When I struggle I switch from my normal overlapping grip to a baseball grip. It helps me get back focused on releasing the club properly.
  6. The next time tension starts killing you do this.........Whistle the theme song to the Andy Griffeth Show. Sounds silly but you can't be tense and do this. Try it. http://video.google.com/videosearch?...1&sa;=N&tab;=wv#
  7. I played yesterday morning and it was extremely cold. Wind chill was mid 20s. The biggest problem was trying to put a T in the frozen ground.....nearly impossible on a couple of shaded T-boxes.
  8. What shaft is in it? Perhaps you are not loading the shaft the way you once were. If the shaft is stiff and you don't generate enough power there will be a dramatic loss of distance. Perhaps you were borderline with that shaft to begin with and something changed in your swing and now your swing is wrong for the shaft.
  9. I added two hybrids this season after trying one a pro I play with had. I got the Titleist 585h in 19 and 21 degree with the ProForce V2 104 gram shaft. These things are great. I removed my 5-wood and rarely use the 3-wood any more. A well struck 19 degree hybrid flies nearly as far as a 3-wood with greater control. They are great for T-shots on short Par 4s.
  10. I swim laps. I try to get in 1000 yards at least 4 times a week durring the cold months. I continue to play golf as much as I can and hit the range a couple times a week. I hit 4 buckets of balls and played 9-holes today. It was 34 degrees when I left the house to go to the course. My biggest problem in the winter isn't the cold, its the lack of daylight. I don't mind playing in the cold.
  11. I really only have two holes that mess with me on my home course. The first one is a short Par 4. The hole bends a bit more left than it shows in the hole diagram. The T-box is designed so it sets you up aiming at the treeline on the right side which is exactly where you do-not want to be. Even from the right side of the fairway this is a difficult hole to par. You need to play this hole down the left side. The first three years as a member at this course this hole killed me. It seemed no matter where I aimed I seemed to end up either in the right rough or on the right side of the fairway. This year I figured out a foolproof way for me to play this hole. I picked out a particular tree down the left side and I block out everything else. I set my alignment to that tree and hit a high cut with the driver or 3-wood that starts at that tree and cuts into the left side of the fairway with little or no roll out. The second hole that messes with me is our 18th hole. This one for me is the most difficult hole on the course. There are condos down the left hand side, a very narrow fairway that bends to the right and trees down both sides of the fairway. There is no place to bail out to on your t-shot on this hole. Also, from 180 in to the green the fairway slopes downhill so even if you are in the fairway you face a challenging approach. I have tried no less than 6 different strategies on this hole with little success. I only par this hole about 25% of the time. Driver for me brings the condos and trees down the left into play. Driver also puts me on the downsloaping portion of the fairway. Lately I have been playing 3-iron off the T which leaves a 3 to 5 iron into the green. This small green has severe slopes to it and is guarded by 2 deep bunkers. My long iron strategy makes holding the green very difficult but so far its the best thing I have found.
  12. I'm glad you like that picture. It makes me think of you. Unfortunately I am no longer a 20 handicap. Right now I'm a 7.3 who is probably averaging 290+ with the driver. Like I said in the original post I was probably an exception to the rule mainly because of my baseball background. Good night you "Special" UK Longdriver. Ha Ha!!!!!!
  13. If it will make you feel better about yourself, go right ahead. Just curious why you are so obsessed with this? Think about it, you are calling someone a liar who you have never even seen hit a single ball. Why is it so important to you? Do you have a small WeWeee or something? Does having that stupid UK Longdriver logo in your signature make you feel better about yourself too? I'm done now.
  14. $1.73 yesterday. NJ is one of the cheapest places in the country for gas.
  15. Whatever you say buddy. You're not the jerk. The jerk is the guy who read my post and without ever seeing me play basically called me a liar. What a wanker. My point is simple, there are high handicappers who can go long. Sorry if you or he feel somewhat inadequate or something. He can try to spin it but I know how I was hitting the ball back then and with no doubt I was averaging 300+. Did every one stay in the fairway of course not but I rarely was far off. I have progressed to a low of a 6.1 handicap since then and my driving accuracy has remained basically unchanged since that first year I began playing. Back then I just couldn't hit greens, chip or putt. PS. I would trade my abilities with a driver any day for the mid-iron skills of the pro I play with.
  16. My strategy on par 3s is simple. Forget everything else and aim at the center of the green. Forget the pin, forget the bunkers, forget the water. All you want to do is hit the center of the green and 2-put from there. The only time I take dead aim at the stick on a par 3 is if its 140 or less.
  17. Learn how to read my friend. The 345 was the longest GPS confirmed drive. Not necessarily the longest. If you want to split hairs I have hit drives beyond 400 yards, in the fairway by catching the slope. Call me a liar if you want, I personally don't belive you could have a 0.0 handicap either. Prove it you internet scratch golfer. So there.
  18. Yes without a doubt there are 20+ handicaps that can average 300+ yards with the driver. How do I know?????? Because I was one!!!!! How do you ask.......First a little background. I am 6'1 210 pounds and in good condition. I have also been blessed with a large wingspan, above average flexability and hand-eye coodination. I played High School and College Baseball where I was known for my hitting more than anything. When I first thought about taking up golf 6 years ago I began going to the driving range around the corner from my office. I got addicted to golf by pounding drivers at that driving range. That first summer I was at that driving range pounding drivers 5 or 6 days a week. I was hooked on hitting it far. After 3 months of hitting balls on the range I played in a scramble and it was my first time on a regulation 18-hole course. At that point I had no game whatsoever but I could consistantly hit that driver dead strait and well over 300 yards, fairly accurately too I should add. That first summer I had no official handicap but I would guess it would have been close to 30 as I was shooting 110 to 115. I played several courses with GPS systems that summer and the longest gps confirmed drive was 345. That is my first year playing the game. 4 years ago I joined a private course just minutes from my house. I am a range rat who hits 30,000+ balls a year on the range. My first year there I had perhaps my most embarrassing golf moment on the course. I was playing with the assitant teaching pro on the 381 yard first hole. I outdrove the pro by a good 25 yards leaving myself a 30 yard pitch to the green. On my next shot I laid the sod over top of a wedge and advanced the ball about 10 yards. That was the story of my golf gane the first 3 years I played. A long perfect drive followed by wrecking the rest of the hole. I have consistantly improved my game since then to where I could play to scratch if I had a better short game. These days I rarely even practice with the driver on the range. I spend 90% of my time on wedges and mid-irons because that's where I make or break my scores. I have actually lost a little distance the last 2 years but I still can hit a 300+ yard drive on demand. This past season I won the long drive at several of the tournaments I played with drives that GPSed at 335 and 310. The 310 was not even a well struck ball. I won another where they did not provide an official measurement. In the events I play, if I hit the fairway odds are I will win the long drive award. I should add that this year my driver clubhead speed was 121 and 116 without trying to go at it. I know 6 years ago I was generating even higher swing speeds.....it sucks getting older. So yes it can be done. Perhaps I was the exception to the rule as I was just learning the game.
  19. A long course is any course that requires me to play driver and long irons on its par 4s from the middle and back Ts. There is more to a course than length. My home course is a good example of an old course that is not particularly long but it is extremely difficult from the back Ts. Our par 4 second hole is a good example of this. It was originally designed as a Par 5 so the set up of the elevated green was intended for wedges not mid or long irons. Even a 300 yard drive leaves you a difficult shot at the green. If you leave yourself 175 to the green, forget about par unless you have an excellent short game.
  20. I have hit the 690.cb and they are an excellent set of irons. Great feel.
  21. Ask them if they would please go back to producing TRADITIONAL forged muscleback irons like the 690mb!!!!!!! Notice Nike has come out with a new VictoryRed mucsleback that is almost a direct copy of the 690mb. When my current 690mb set wears out I will be switching to the nike irons if Titleist doesn't produce something like the 690s. Sorry the ZM series just doesn't do it for me. The topline is to thick and the heads are to big.
  22. Here is a tip for you. Hold the grip upright with your finger over the little hole in the end. Now fill the grip about half way with solvent. Put your finger over the other end and shake. Next go to your shaft which is already in the vice and take your finger off of the little hole in the end of the grip and let it dispense the solvent onto the tape then slide your new grip right on and align. Works like a charm.
  23. They are worth the money. I play whatever high end ball I can get a deal on and when I buy I usually get 2 or 3 dozen which lasts me for months. Right now you can buy Calloway HXtour 56 balls for cheap and they are every bit as good as ProV1s. Another I have found for cheap that performs very well is the Nike TA2Spin. Distance is not an issue for me my main buying criteria for balls is spin and stopping power with approach shots. I buy the balls that spin the most for my money.
  24. I play titleist 690mb blades but also own a set of 755 cavity backs. I don't notice much difference between them shotwize. A good shot is a good shot. Its the archer not the arrows so to speak. I will say this though whatever you get make sure they are forged soft steel not cast or forged stainless. 1025 carbon steele just feels so much better at impact. The 1025 is more of a woosh feeling while stainless is like a sharp click at impact. You can feel so much more of what's going on at impact with the soft carbon steel irons. It will make you a better player.
  25. There are good deals on Titleist 755s on ebay. They are a good Iron for mid to low handicaps. I picked up a set on ebay that was in like new condition a couple of weeks ago for $172. The trick with ebay is to know what you want ahead of time and then just be patient. Eventially an inexperienced seller will put what you want up there and you will get a bargain.
