  1. Sorry to hear that... hard to believe someone would take just a 6 iron. Funny thing is I lost the 6 iron out of a previous set. You might have left it and they just didn't turn it in. When my clubs were stolen I went to all the pawn shops but just saw a bunch of crap. Great to hear from someone else from Spokane!
  2. mixed bag here... irons: Mizuno JPX EZ Forged Driver and 3 wood, Taylor Made M1 3H, 4H Titleist wedges, 2 Mizuno, 1 Titleist Volkey Putter: Scotty Ball: Callaway Chrome Soft Last year my clubs were stolen so I had to rebuild everything from the ground up. still tinkering with the wedges and irons.
  3. I agree it's nouveau... but I like the concept. An instructor is someone you take a class from at school. A coach is Walter Matthau in the Bad News Bears... okay, bad example. Instructor says, "I'm the teacher, you're the student"... coach says, "we're a team... let's get better!". I would say I was not an aggressive student... I just went with the program. If I was to do something like that again I would try to tailor a program specifically for my needs.
  4. I completely agree. It's a delicate balance when you're a young professional and people are throwing money at you but you haven't accomplished anything. On one hand, you're young without a lot of money in the bank and want to cash in a little. On the other, you don't want to be "over exposed" or be seen to be cashing in. I guess in today's world if you have to struggle a little to find your way and are not immediately successful you're a "flop".
  5. I noticed MSN has suspended comments on articles and has this message. "MSN has temporarily removed commenting on our websites while we explore better ways for you to engage in discussion on the issues you care about." I totally agree about the Golf Channel comments and I'm not sure why they continue.
  6. I think a large part of golf instruction is centered around beginners and getting them started playing the game. That is where the biggest gains can be made and the biggest bang for your buck so to speak. It's more difficult to turn an average golfer into a good or great golfer. I think it more of a matter of old dogs and new tricks. I've wanted to improve my short game for years and have taken lessons which were more suited to beginners. I went to a golf school in San Diego a couple years in a row and it was again more suited for beginners. Yes, I can get out of a bunker 90+% of the time... but how do I improve my sand saves... How can I adjust the shot or hit different type bunker shots. This seems out of the realm of most instructors. I know there are instructors out there who specialize in better players but the cost is prohibitive. That is why I like the concept of having a golf coach versus a golf instructor. I need someone to help me analyze my game, find the holes and come up with a plan to fill them in. That takes time, commitment and building a relationship and its a reason why I enjoy being a member of a country club. I can be hitting balls at the range and the pro will be there and we'll talk about my game and he'll watch a few of my swings and give me something to work on... and I never have the feeling I need to schedule a lesson. Then when my wife or daughters need to get lessons to be able to hit the ball in the air... he's who I schedule them with. I've been struggling in the short game area and he will drive up and help me for a bit... I think he said something about "not being able to watch someone drowning without lending a hand". Just my 2 cents.
  7. Latest revision brought me down to 9.7 from 10.9. I had a couple 9 hole rounds in the 37 range and this combined for a 74. I feel confident I can shoot in the low 80's most of the time but have not shot in the 70's for 18 holes since last summer (79). Here is my posted score history... I see some of my low scores are my Thursday night 9 hole league. I have to say I'm not sure how fair it is to use 9 hole scores to calculate since I can keep it together for 9 holes and then blow up on the back nine. At Qualchan I play the front nine much better but struggle on the back which has a lower slope but doesn't fit my eye very well. Typical score on the front will be in the 37 to 39 range and on the back 40 to 43... rarely break 40 on the back. Sometimes the combined scores for Revision purposes will use 2 front nine scores. I've been working hard on my game and I'm happy with the reduction in handicap but I'm not sure how it's going to translate to tournament results in the next couple weeks. Time will tell. 8. July 16: Army Reserve Family day so I spent the day with my son doing egg toss, water balloon toss and piñata. I tried to keep my left wrist firm while doing the egg toss and picturing a 10-30 yd pitch shot. Just kidding. Chipped and pitched about 70 balls before and after the picnic. Practiced picking out a target and trying to hit it. In the end I placed my ball tube which is slightly wider than a golf ball and tried to hit it from about 10 yards. I hit it 6 times out of 16 balls which I thought was pretty good.
  9. July 15: Army Reserve weekend and had friends over tonight so not much time for practice. I did ran 2 to 3 miles at the gym then did some golf specific stretching excercises. After a long week hunched over a computer it felt great just to lay on the ground and let my back decompress. Later at lunch I did some swings without a ball and worked on sequencing.
  10. July 14: couples night at the club and we played a 9 hole chapman format. It was a lot of fun and my wife only wanted to kill me once when I was trying to tell her a putt was pretty down hill. She then proceeded to hit it 10 feet past the hole. I showed her by making the comebacker. We shot 7 over par including a triple bogey on a par 4... the #1 handicap hole. I hit probably by best drive of the year and she was 126 yards to the pin but ended up hitting it under a tree. she happened to take a picture of the swing.
  11. Last night's Thursday Twilight league at The Creek at Qualchan. We were playing the back nine last night and it is rated as easier than the front but it doesn't set up well for me. Last night I was thinking about it and I came to the conclusion it is due to a lot of dogleg right holes. 4 of the holes are dogleg right and my primary ball flight is right to left. I have a hard time with alignment and have a difficult time aiming left. Just a mind game. Anyway, I shot 40 for the 9 with 1 double bogey, 3 bogeys and a birdie. They had just cut and rolled the greens so they were fast and the pin placements were on some extreme hills. I three putted 3 times and had 19 putts. FIR: 5/7, GIR 6/9. (nGIR was 7/9).
  12. If your intent is caring for the course there is no penalty. Interesting how there are so many opinions about repairing ball marks. Maybe there needs to be a support group. Ball Marker Repair Anonymous. . 6"? Really?
  13. July 13: played 9 hole in the Thursday night league. Started with a double bogey on the first hole but was striking the ball better. Shot 40 with 1 double, 3 bogeys and 1 birdie. 3 three putts led to 17 putts overall.
  14. It's symbol could be a unicorn... a mythical achievement rarely accomplished by the likes me. (was going to say us)
  15. I started golfing when I was 14 and honestly I can't remember shooting 120 but we weren't keeping great score either. I didn't play a lot in high school but got the bug for real in College and my first handicap was 16. I've been as low as a 7 but now I'm back up to 11. The upcoming revision is trending down into the 9's. So, overall, starting young was a bonus but I haven't improved a lot since then... just living off of raw talent.
  16. July 12: Had an event after work so I spent 5 minutes working with the Orange Whip and hit about 30 chips and pitches. It was almost dark and things were great until I hit 3 double hit chips in a row. The shot I've been trying to eliminate. I'll blame it on the Michelob Ultra and call it a night.
  17. He was not trying to gain an advantage which would be cheating. This would be the player who replaces his ball differently to avoid a spike mark. The fact he marked his ball to the side initially and then replaced it in the orthodox way tells me he just forgot. How may times have you forgotten to replace your mark after moving it? It's so common I have to put my mark upside down to remind myself to move the marker back. It's an unconscious task which he's done thousands of time. Just my 2 cents.
  18. July 11: I was able to go to the club at about 7 PM after a 12 hour day at work. I was a bit tired but got some good overall practice in. I was on the range for about 20 to 30 minutes working on my starting my back swing consistently and turning through the ball. I've been pushing the ball a lot which is unusual for me. I'm too steep into the ball I think. Ended the range time with the Driver and focused a lot on posture and my weight. I tend to get to much weight on my heels and I tried to feel my weight forward. Finally, I spent about 20 minutes on the putting green practicing from 6 feet and trying to make 10 in a row. closest I got was 6. Then I was on the chipping and pitching green for 20 minutes including hitting about 10 balls out of the bunker in different lies. Overall, It was a productive session but still not confident of my ball striking.
  19. July 10: my wife played a fast one on me tonite... asked me if I want to go hits balls with her and my son after work... is this a trick question? But then there was dinner, then the dishes and then it was too late. She pulled the ole bait and switch. So in the waning hours of light I hit 50 chips and pitches in my back yard. Now she says, "are you writing on the golf site?" ?? Is she trying to sabotage the 5 minutes of practice? Treachery. I will not be defeated so easily.
  20. Played yesterday at my home course, Kalispel Golf and Country Club. (70.5/126). It was expected to be a hot and humid day so we teed off at 8 AM. Side note, As I got to the course and pulled out my clubs I was informed my motorized push cart was damaged in storage. It appears a cart struck it and damaged one of the wheels. This took away valuable warm up time and I didn't warm up very well at all. My ball striking was off throughout the entire round and I can only think of a few solid strikes but I scored well and shot a season low 81. GIR 4/18, FIR 4/14, Putts 30. My short game practice is really paying off and I had 7 one putt greens and only three putted once. I had 1 double, 6 bogeys, 1 birdie and 10 pars. The double was a sloppy one with 2 chips and 2 putts wasting my best drive of the day. I got up and down from 40 to 50 yards in the fairway twice and once from 80 yards... all for par. Best shot of the day... 4H on a 210 yd. Par 3. 2 feet to the right of the cup for a kick in birdie.
  21. July 9 : Played 18 holes at Kalispel Golf and Country Club. Didn't hit the ball great but shot 81. Woke up stiff and sore and did not have a good warm up. Later in the day I hit some pitches and chips in the back yard.
  22. July 8th spent 5 minutes working with the impact snap. Got a feel for getting better with the back of my left hand toward the target at impact. Then spent 5 minutes each with the orange whip and another speed club to work on sequencing and speed. Finally, later in the day took a break from working on sprinklers to pitch about 40 balls in my back yard. My chipping and pitching are feeling great... just trying to build confidence.
  23. Played 8 holes with my wife after happy hour at the club. She had a par on the first hole and I lipped out my birdie putt. Practiced playing while a little drunk. ? I also worked on not giving my wife advice and just enjoying the beautiful sunset.
  24. Thanks for the link on the Dan Plan... so I guess he just gave up and went on to something else. I totally agree with Trackman being a tool... Like most tools it should be used by someone who knows how to use it to get the most benefit.
  25. This post got me thinking about the Dan Plan and I went to his web site. No posts since 2015 and I'm guessing it's known what happened. Did he end up needing back surgery? I was impressed he got down to a 3 handicap and by the end he actually looked like a golfer. I can only day dream about being able to spend that amount of time on my golf game. My wife is chirping at me at the amount of time I spend on golf already. 3 jobs and a 7 year old with Autism and if I hit balls more than 2 days a week I'm an A-hole. 4 years ago I was a 7 handicap and wanted to drop to below a 5 to get into the championship flight of the tournament's I was entering... that was right around the time my son was diagnosed with Autism and now I'm an 11. Personally, I don't think Trackman is the answer to getting a lot better... it's playing, finding the holes in your game and then filling those holes. You can use Trackman to check certain things but the lowest score wins... not Trackman stats.
