  1. On a well struck shot, the divot starts after the ball, and the ball only stays on the clubface for miliseconds, so the sole should not have much effect on ball striking. The wider sole on game improvement clubs is a design feature to get weight low and back from the clubface, to promote higher shots. That is why super game improvement iron sole are beginning to resemble hybrids.
  2. Hahaha, WTF? Come on down to the Carolinas in July, 36 holes with the guys on Saturdays, cocktails when we're done, it might put your delicate system into sensory overload.

    What Club to Keep

I would dump the 3 iron
  4. Its golf, sh!t happens, we all have a blow-up round once in a while. You know you are a good player, so you shouldn't let one day cause you to look too deep for reasons or go chasing changes in the swing that got you to an 8 index to start with. Move on and enjoy..
  5. You "hate" graphite shafts? A little over the top, don't you think? If you are ever in North Carolina, I can introduce you to a number of low handicap players, way under 70, with graphite shafted irons. To the OP, if you like the clubs, and hit them well, don't let the graphite shafts deter you. Graphite has come a long, long way since some of these notions of accuracy, and age were started. Good graphite shafts are more accurate than 99% of the golfers swinging them.
  6. There are a couple of different ways you can see this. Any "pro" series club usually takes a darn near perfect strike to perform well, and living in Mass., with a short season, and your second kid on the way, just how much time can you actually devote to practice? Some of us never quite develop the hand-eye co-ordination to play certain clubs at an acceptable level. Don't buy into the tired old myth that you need players clubs to get to"the next level", there are tons of really good players who game forgiving clubs.
  7. While you might make some cuts at even par, you would not be likely to earn enough to retain playing priveleges for the next year.
  8. At a 24.4 handicap index, your swing is not too good for the X22's, as I know several low handicappers playing various Callaway X series irons.
  9. Don't take this the wrong way, but with an 18.9 index, you are a long, long way from becoming a teaching pro. It's a great goal, but I would hesitate on staking my familys financial future on being able to pull it off.
  10. You just assume you can go to the 13th tee, a day later, possibly cut in front of other players, and resume your round?? That would not fly where I live, and I think the course owes you nothing.
  11. You already have a putter, you DON'T have a driver.......Figure it out.
  12. I don't think the clubs will "hold you back". The notion of that is one of the more ridiculous myths spread around. I play X20's, at an 8.4 index, and only feel held back by my limited talent.LOL
  13. If you truly feel the need to try "everything', find a good pro, explain what you want, and be prepared to spend several hundred dollars for the time required.
  14. I agree totally about the Scotty graphics, he has pulled off one of the greatest marketing hoaxes of all time. All the Scotty slurpers, feel free to flame away....
  15. WTF is "pimped the game" in your poll.
  16. Do you seriously think it makes a difference?
  17. 12 degrees is a good amount of bounce in a SW, IMO. I switched to a 60 degree wedge with 12 deg. bounce to match my SW, so I can interchange them, depending on the length of shots, and have them play the same. It has worked out well for me, just pull a club, based on the yardage, and swing away.
  18. I play the XLS, and it is a fairway finding machine, the Monster should be just as good.
  19. Get a grip, they only charged you 18 bucks, and the picture didn't look that bad. I bet it breaks their hearts at the course, that you are threatening to take your business elsewhere.
  20. High = Someone I can beat Low = Someone who beats me
  21. You're a +1.9 index, and you don't know what kind of clubs you want?? Tell us another one....
  22. The X18 R is a club that Callaway brought out to compete at the $399 price point. They do not have the Bore Thru hosel, don't have a full 360 degree undercut, and use a different uniflex shaft. But they are still Callaways, with all the quality that comes with the brand. As a new golfer, you can't go wrong with Callaways, either the X18 r or a used set. Check the Callaway Preowned site, as they have some great deals on X18's and X20's, all certified, and a great exchange program if you don't like the clubs you buy.

    yardages

I've played a lot of courses, and really can't recall any that didn't have at least 100 & 150 markers. Where are your tournaments held, that they don't have these?
  24. So true, I've had a 4 putt with 2 chips on top of it. 2 years ago on Pinehurst #2, 5th hole, pin was back left, near the edge, I was front right, first putt trickles past the hole, goes 20 feet down the slope, 1st chip gets on the edge of the green, about 4 feet from hole, comes back to my feet. Next chip ends up where my first putt started from, and I 3 putted from there. Thank you, Mr. Donald Ross.
