  2. Couple of questions answered. 1. My woods all have the same shaft. 2. The ball is placed slightly behind my left heel(Rhander) in my stance. Early on I used to tee it a bit forward to combat topping the ball. 3. Just ballparking it, but it seems at the apex of ball flight the ball is around 65+ ft in the air, however it climbs rapidly. I need to get borrow a launch monitor to get some real numbers 4. The de-loft adjustment did help as I can get some roll out on the ball outside of of what I normally carry. If I were to hit the old setup, the ball would be coming in at a really steep angle. For a Par 4 I'm hitting (as of yesterday) 3W, 5/6i and finishing with wedges. For P5's it's 3W, 3H, 7i, and then wedges. As of last year it was always a drive off the tee.
  3. Just curious guys. I've been playing bi-weekly for the past 6 months. I've noticed that I've started to switch to my 3 wood on more par 4's and 5's ....in which I used to use my driver. My main driver SLDR 10.5 R-Flex, just produces too much vertical ball flight now. The hits are dead center with the driver. Is there something that I did that caused that? Current ball is a Titleist NXT Tour.
  4. Total opposites, but its a tie between Gary Player and John Daly. Gary because he is a stand up guy, and John because he didn't give a $hit what others thought of him.
  5. My name is ******* and my drink of choice when I'm at home is Pabst Blue Ribbon. <quietly self loathe my sponsor decision while I cash the check>
  6. My first ever round that I played was with a few senior golfers. The age gap was 40 years. If anything, they instilled the fact that you can suck at golf yet still go out and have fun.....even you take 8 strokes on a par 3. I've never really had any issues with them. The nicest comment was when I was at the driving range and guy obviously way over 65 came up to me and said "Jeeze son, I got to tell you that you hit that 3 hybrid farther than I can hit my dang driver!"
  7. Question for knowledgeable folks. On one or two occasions, I have hit a rock while extracting a ball from the rough. It's noticeable on my 6 iron, as there is a deep gouge on the sole. If I take a sanding disk to the club to eventually buff it out, am I at risk for screwing up the original sole grind on my club? I though about filling the area with clear epoxy and then smoothing it out.
  8. I have 3 spots in my bag that rotate out. I do not carry a 4 or 7 iron with me most of the time and the 5H swaps places with the 3H.
  9. Hey guys, I purchased my first set of Vokey wedges about 2 months ago. I've got a 54 deg F grind(14 bounce) and a 58 deg K grind(11 bounce). Both have served me well. However, there is a noticeable problem when playing greenside flop shots within 20ft of the pin. The 58 degree wedge with it's face all the way open will not pop up the ball in "fluffy" grass since the grind an bounce won't let it. The 54 will do it, but the ball arc the club produces is shallow(turns into a bump and run)...even with a half swing. Being that I am a digger, and my wedges are "digger" friendly....what should I look for in something greater that 58 degree's for my style of play? For 60 degree wedges there are 4 different grinds....and if I go to 62, there is only one choice. OR should I just wait till the SM6 is available. I like having my 54, since it can blast me out of a bunker and the 58 is my friend in tighter lies.
  10. This is how I chose my putter. I went to golfsmith and tried almost every brand, I literally had no budget. I assumed that I would end up with a Scotty Cameron, but I could never get used to them. The Ping Tomcat C felt the best in my hands. It might not be the "best choice" for me, does what I want it to.
  11. No topped driver shots. I don't care if I slice the darn thing. I'm through with topping the ball.
  12. Just got my set of SM5 Vokey Wedges. Took em to the pitching greens and was totally blown away. @ $109 per club, it was a good deal.
  13. Unless I am playing with anyone else besides family or myself....I don't keep score
  14. 1,4,5 & 6 might require extra mouthwash. :)
  15. I've got a paper due for a grad level Environmental Pollution class. While I have till the end of the year to research and turn it in....for those that work at courses or know people who are in the industry.... are they generally forthcoming in what they do/use to keep their courses in tip top shape. I'm not looking to do an expose on bad course management, but more of a paper on how the industry works. Should I approach course superintendents or will they show me the door(trade secrets??)
  16. I'm on the phone with PING....so I'll let you guys know what happened.
  17. BTW, yeah...totally not a counterfeit club. Unless a really well known store is pulling a fast one on people.
  18. One of my buddies who teaches Materials Science at the local University thinks that it is a bad batch on the basis that I own several different drivers, am consistent with my swing(took him out to the range) and still manage to drive the ball far. All the variables that he could account for lead him to come to a conclusion that there was a factory defect...which is a pretty common thing considering he worked for NASA and Lockheed. He also laughed when I showed him the "turbluators."
  19. The golf store calls me a liar. But to have it happen twice, with booming drives doesn't make sense. I mean I've got buddies that work with me who have strong backgrounds in physics and can't understand why my Taylormade driver structural integrity remains solid, yet the PING product just gets hammered. In the end, my "employer" technically paid for it. I didn't.
  20. I'll start off and say that Golf, the game IS a sport and it is likely one of the most difficult sports I have ever played. At the start of my young golf career a few months back, I couldn't miss the ball if I tried. I could hit the long drive, follow up with decent iron shots and my putting for me....was easy. Fast forward a few months. I've played 15-20 rounds of golf on various courses. My handicap is still 16, according to the USGS calculator, but then again I don't really keep score. I just want to at least make 2 or 3 over par on most holes, which is doable most days. I look forward to par 3's since that's primarily where I makeup my scores(a few birdies here and there). I play with Taylormade Equipment. Why I chose that I have no idea. I had an informal fitting session in the local golf store and $1200 later I have a set. So, my "work" offers giftcard promotions from performance incentives. I had enough to go buy myself a PING G30 LS tech that I had my eye on. I mean I had taken hours in the simulator/launch monitor MAKING damn sure this was the club for me. It narrowly beat out the Taylormade R15 and Titleist 915D3....just on gross numbers before. 415 bucks later I have my new driver. Good god I can't wait to hit a boomer. As said in another thread and looking at my swing profile...my swing is fairly steep, but I don't top the driver as much as a used to when I started. First shot with the G30 and I crush a 200+ yard blast(the range signs stop there). I do it again and again. When I'm satisfied, I look at my driver and the top bottom of the club where it say's PING, is crumpled in. No ballmarks....just crushed in. After some negotiaons back at the store, they give me a new head and I go about my buisness. Enter today. I warm up with my wedeges and short irons. Good god, I'm aiming at the tiny greens on the range and am hitting my marks. Time to pull out the woods and driver. 3 wood from the deck goes about 175 and then rolls out, 5 hybrid out of the tall grass is dead on straight. My brain is now locked on that driver. Ok, lets grip this and rip it. I tee up(I use height control tees)....and swing. Instead of that nice sound I hear a crunch. The same damn thing that happened to the old head just happened to the new one. I mean literally it just crumpled like tin foil. Yeah the ball did land beyond 200 with a draw, but again it was damaged beyond repair. I'm at a loss for words. You wanna see a John Daly club toss....I was on the range alone and just let off the biggest and loudest string of F-bombs. The driver landed about 40 ft in away in the woods(the throw didn't manage to break it!) I seriously don't know where I'm at. That's literally 800 bucks spend on a driver that has failed twice. Yeah, it's the companies money and it didn't come out of my pocket, but still.....way to shake my confidence. I finished up the bucket of balls with my irons and limped back to my truck in a "F-me" daze. I don't know if it's just me, the club, the shaft or a combination of all three things at once, but I've hit my fathers driver and my previous ones and that never happens. I love watching and playing this game, but I'm lost right now. I know I don't have a right to be pissed at myself for making bad shots, but I mean, if you manage to top a ball once, your club shouldn't just cave at your first bad shot. Pics of the head are incoming. I'm typing this while waiting for some food at the local Italian joint.
  21. Started mid June playing... So far - I was on the chipping/practice green finishing up. One of the local dogs that takes care of critter management walked up on to the green and started pissing. When it was done it went down to one of the bunkers and rolled around. After that, it went back to the clubhouse porch and fell back asleep.
  22. I can get those numbers with the G30-LsTec....spin around 2200, 9.5 Stiff and a 17.3 launch. My clubhead speed is 93 though. When I consulted with PING, they said I'm right on the bubble of regular vs stiff flex....and to go with whichever one I felt better with.
  23. Callaway, only because of the points you can earn with every purchase of their stuff.
  24. a large bucket varies..... 80 at one course and 120 at another
  25. I've been Playing Golf for: 3 months My current handicap index or average score is: 45(9 hole courses, par is 36) My typical ball flight is: medium launch with a slight draw(don't know how I am doing that). The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: My initial driver shot, since it connects 3 out of 5 times. More video's to come of me hitting my irons. I know I'm not swinging at a ball...the local range is closed, but I have a tee in the ground that is my aim point. My swing, as bad as it may seem, is semi-consistent. Just looking for unbiased reviews. Thanks, "Gordon Ramsay" Videos: Driver Swing(behind) Driver Swing Side
