  1. Ping Eye2 irons are great, many still play them today. You don't necessarily need to add 2", the more important measure than your height is your wrist-to-floor (WTF, no kidding) measurement. Go to Ping's web site and look for their color code chart which suggests length and lie angle specs based on height and WTF.
  2. Just an FYI that NVS 55 stiff shaft in your BB 460 probably plays more like a regular flex. NVS runs soft to nominal flex. DVS is more true to flex.
  3. However, in his book The Art of Putting, Stan Utley advocates a putter with 5* loft, which is more than the typical. Promotes rolling over skidding I believe.
  4. Exactly. You are essentially declaring the first shot unplayable. The one advantage of NOT declaring provisional is when finding the ball deep in the woods leaves no option other than to re-tee as an unplayable. In this case you can not play the provisional, you would have to go back and re-tee.
  5. Saw this on another forum: If it is just sweat stains, febreze the hat, and use enough to get the hat reasonably damp let dry, sweat stains will be gone and hat will smell good.
  6. Supertri is known for high spin. It's good for players who need more spin to keep the ball in the air. If you're hitting it high and with little roll-out, it's a good suggestion to try other shafts to reduce the spin.
  7. My home course uses ghin.com to manage handicaps and you can look up ratings/slopes for front and back nines of different courses. This lookup feature is available to anyone. I'm not sure if they have Okinawa courses. USGA rules require that the course have a separate front and back nine rating to use a nine-hole score for handicap. Once the two nine-hole scores are added, the course rating is the sum of the two nine-hole course ratings, and the slope is the average of the two slopes, rounded to the nearest whole number.
  8. $20 is a great price, just buy a pair and see what you think. The Adidas pants are pretty nice, reasonably comfy in warm weather. They're never going to be as cool as shorts.
  9. They are pretty similar overall. I mostly read them both for the tips (aren't we all just one solid tip away from being scratch?) and it's true after a while they recycle. GD tips are from PGA/LPGA pros, GOLF tips from "top 100" teachers. Teachers always seem to have bizarre tips as they try to outdo each other.
  10. Some people talk about feeling like your right elbow is in front of your belt buckle.
  11. Nine-hole scores should not be doubled. They are paired up to form 18-hole scores. So your first and second nine-hole scores get added together and so forth. You need to get the ratings/slopes for the nines you played.
  12. Swaying on the swing can cause a mix of fat and thin (topped) shots. Hard to tell from video from behind but I'm seeing some head movement during the swing that looks like lateral motion.
  13. I bought the Tour Striker Pro based on the long thread at golfwrx. The designer/inventor gave some good advice in that thread, one tidbit being to go with the Pro rather than the standard version. The Pro is harder to hit but the standard can be too easy to master without a big improvement in swing. On the other hand if you struggle with the Pro at first you can start out by teeing the ball slightly or fluffing the lie. I've only used it in one range session so far, and if you don't have shaft lean you will definitely hit it thin with this club. But I have been working on a better swing with more lag for a couple months and was able to hit some good shots with the TS as well.
  14. In Stan Utley's Art of the Short Game he describes this general technique for high pitch shots: Weight left, narrow stance, clubface and stance aimed at target (not open), hit just behind the ball, early release of the hinge. A lob wedge with 10-12* bounce will work fine. Club won't dig because of the bounce. This technique and others in Utley's book have helped my short game quite a bit. For vary hard lies, you can open the clubface (it helps to have a wedge grind that gets the club closer to the ground when you open it up). Utley claims it will even work off pavement.
  15. One more observation about high cappers and I count myself among them: the proper swing can be physically uncomfortable. Inside-out swing / inverted C is harder on the lower back than just swinging with your arms. Full turn / getting hands far from your head on the backswing also is an uncomfortable stretch.
  16. Tennis elbow or golfers elbow is a tendonitis (actually epichondylitis) that can plague golfers. If pain is on the outside (lateral) or the inside (medial) of elbow joint near the bony protrusion that could be the problem. Hitting from mats can cause it as well as swing flaws. It can become chronic if not addressed so definitely do something.
  17. The lighter shaft generally will be a little softer flex even for the same nominal flex. However I looked at the specs for the Proforce V2 (see link) and they claim to be almost identical for the different weights within the same flex. http://www.ustgolfshaft.com/shaft_mo...uct.aspx?id=77
  18. I've been gaming the center-shafted 2-bar hybrid mallet for a few weeks and putting much better. Definitely sinking more and scaring the hole more inside 10'. I had read somewhere that for RH-dominant putting stroke (RH player) it's recommended to have center-shaft / face balanced / SBST stroke.

    Excited

Ping G5 is a very good driver and available pretty cheap these days.
  20. One common problem that causes putts to come up short, especially short putts, is to take too long a backswing and then decelerate coming through the ball. Cure is to take a shorter backswing with a firm stroke through the ball. You'll keep it straighter too. As previous post mentioned, taking a full follow through also helps.
  21. One thing I noticed is the putt will sometimes track the aeration pattern. If putt is in same general direction as the rows of aeration holes but you have to cross a few rows the effect on the putt is semi-predictable and you can plan for some break based on that. Maybe?
  22. I have a mostly Ping bag now. For me the G10 driver and G10 irons are top notch. (I wish I had gotten the irons in steel rather than graphite -- too light.) I'm less thrilled with fairway wood and hybrid. Ping Redwood Anser is a beautiful putter with good feel but I'm currently thinking to switch to a center-shafted mallet. I have compared so many drivers to the G10 at the range and G10 always wins for my swing.
  23. If your driver distance numbers are accurate your swingspeed is in 100 mph range. The NVS shaft that comes with the BB is pretty soft so you are definitely in the wrong flex. Some other popular, economical and lower launching shafts: UST Proforce V2, Grafalloy Prolaunch Platinum, Grafalloy Blue (not Prolaunch), Graphite Design YS-6+. The Matrix shaft mentioned above is going to be pricey in comparison. For me personally I probably would not stick an expensive shaft in a Big Bertha driver -- if I was spending those $$$ I'd buy a new driver. I agree with previous post that you don't want launch to be too low. If you can get fit for a shaft on a launch montior and optimize launch angle that would be best.
  24. Previous generation was the G5 and I5. Interestingly the I5's get a lot of love, the G5's not so much. But for the current generation, the G10's get all the love and the I10's not. Just my sense from surfing the golf forums.
  25. We've done family vacations on Hilton Head for many years and I love everything about it. We've played Harbour Town a couple times -- pricey but memorable. And not too difficult from the white tees.
