  1. I've never liked TO's attitude and root against him but as a player. But, he's been incredible and put up "all time" type numbers. I hate it but it's true (kinda like Tiger, he's amazing, I hate it but he is). This is one of the best points in this thread. TO and Chad have always been double teamed. They may not be as good as they once were but you are going to have to pick one to double and both will be effective against a single. Personalities aside, this was a good signing for the Bengals. I have this feeling that TO will not be as disruptive as he once was....
  2. Find a good set of used clubs on ebay. When I was a beginner I bought most of my clubs used, some from ebay some from used bins in golf stores.
  3. A friend of mine wears them and I've had a few discussions with him about them. They give plenty of support are very comfortable and don't really cause any of the problems the posters on here (WHO HAVE NEVER TRIED THEM OR HAD A FRIEND USE THEM) are hypothesizing about. Yes, at times you have to take a towel off your bag and dry your feet. Way too much snooty crap in golf. If the sandals feel good, wear them. It's pretty hot here in NC and I've considered buying some but I had to buy regular shoes this spring and didn't want to spend double.
  4. For the best rivalry in sports I vote for Duke Basketball by a landslide over UNC-CH. GTHC GTH
  5. I've used the Dyson hand dryers before. I agree they are amazing and work very quickly. I own a Dyson Ball (DC-25) vacuum and it's by far the best vacuum I've ever used (and I've used my share). It's light, works great, is manuverable as can be. If you are in the maket for a vacuum, just spend the money on a Dyson. They really suck (in the good way).
  6. Before the G15's I had TaylorMade 360's, decent clubs but at least 5 years old, not fitted to me and less forgiving than I wanted. Before I bought the G15's I hit just about every GI iron on the planet. I bought the G15's because I hit them pretty well and liked how they felt. They just felt better to me than the other irons I tried. After having them for a month, I like them even more. When hit anywhere near decent they have this wonderful solid feeling and they fly high and straight. When you miss, you can tell you missed and how but the results are still pretty good. I've never played a club that was so forgiving on shots that come off the toe, for example. I think the added weight in the toe really works. I hit an 8 iron fat yesterday and it amazingly still make it to the green and left me a decent birdie putt (which I missed). The clubs have a nice balance to them that I feel helps my tempo (which is often too quick). I think some of that comes from them not being super light (me and super light irons don't seem to mix well, thus no TM Burners in my bag). I thought the Callaway X-22's had a similar weight/balance to them, BTW. My confidence is very high with these clubs. Traditionally iron play was my weakness. It seemed like I was better off being further away hitting my hybrids. There have been days where I feel like I'm cheating playing these irons. Of course, after having bought the irons, all of a sudden I can't get off the tee (normally my strength - accuracy not distance) or hit a putt (this is an evil game we play).
  7. I don't have the inserts, just standard Ping grips (which I like).
  8. I know you already made your decison....but I'd just thought I'd chime in and say that I LOVE my G15 irons. I've had them for about a month, have played about 7 rounds with them and have found them to be very forgiving and very solid on contact. Hope you like your as much as I like mine!
  9. Iteresting, I'm not saying they are soft but I didn't find them to be Rocks either (put your basic TopFlight comment here) and I generally prefer a softer ball.
  10. A received a dozen as a gift one time. I really liked them. I usually play NXT Tour or DT So-lo. I thought that Juice Ball gave me more distance without giving up too much. If I saw them for $10-15 a dozen, I'd pick up another box. I might have to give that Crush ball a try!
  11. I've had my new Ping G15 Irons four about 2 weeks now and I could not be happier with a set of clubs. They are just so solid and forgiving.
  12. And that's exactly why the PGA needs to promote other players more. When Tiger isn't playing ESPN will hardly cover a tournament. Kind of hard to get sports fans to watch a sport when they don't even hear about it. The PGA needs to do a better job of handling the media and promoting the game, the tour and the many interesting players more and Tiger less so they don't end up with these terrible ratings and terrible coverage when the tour is Tigerless (injury times, tournaments skipped, eventual retirement).
  13. The answer is no, they do not need Tiger. What they need to do is a MUCH better job of promoting and celebrating other players. They put themselves in a bad spot by being too Tiger-centric. He's just about the best golfer I've ever seen but I enjoy golf much more when he's not in the field because of the way the PGA and others ignore everyone else (except perhaps Phil who I'm always rooting for because he's such a good guy). Look at the screen time he received yesterday at the expense of other players (some of whom were moving up the leader board quite nicely). There are a lot of really great guys, great golfers (not as good as Tiger) and great stories in golf and they should be highlighted.
  14. JWL1957 speaks the truth. ESPN loves loves loves Tiger (and Phil almost as much) and when Tiger isn't on the leaderboard, ESPN gives the PGA no respect. This is one of the reasons I root against Tiger (there are others including my inclination for pulling for the underdog). I really enjoyed the last round and found Louis Oo. to be endearing.
  15. Thanks for sharing. Your family will be in my prayers today. Although you are away, I think your wife is lucky to have such a supportive husband. Just continue to remind her you're there for her and you're in this together.
  16. Sell the clubs for $400, buy yourself some Ping G15's (after kicking in a few more $$) Don't sell the clubs and use the money elsewhere. That $400 gets you pretty close to a new set of irons. Spend it on diapers and you never know how long it'll be before you're able to get new irons. X-18's are nice....X-24's are nicer (and G15's are even better) and getting new clubs is part of the fun of golf. I was about to buy clubs last year...waited for the G15's to come out, didn't pull the trigger, ended up buying a house and putting my club purchase on hold for a year. Could have been 2 years or more if my company stock price didn't take a nice bump up!
  17. Wow, I have the opposite reaction. I hope he putts horribley this week regardless of what putter he is using. It's hard to find a guy I want to root against more. Go "the field". On a more appropriate note, I hit the Nike Method putter around a bit in Golfsmith this weekend (along with a few others). It's a nice putter and everything but a price point of $250, I'd never even consider buying one. If I wanted to switch putters I'd put a new grip on my old Ping Anser!
  18. That's a great article. Maybe James should write a book: "How To Go From Hero to Global Superdouche in 60 Minutes" I loved the NBA commissioner's take on "The Decision": ill conceived, badly produced and poorly executed
  19. I like your chances with that setup but I admit to being ignorant about just how good a pro would be in person on that kind of course. I don't know your game that well but with 4 tries you can take a safe shot (like a hyrid or an iron on a par 5) then have 3 chances to go for it (like a 3 wood to get you on or near the green). It sounds like a lot of fun win or lose. Take the bet, let us know what happens.
  20. LPGA for me....but then again I'm straight and less than 50 years old The ladies play VERY well and their games and distances are much like my own. That's cool. I wish they had a better TV deal and did a better job of promoting their players. Sadly, ESPN only reallly wants to cover MWie (kinda like they only really want to cover poor old Eldrich).
  21. I bought 3 Vokeys last week, 48, 52, 56. My new G15 irons have a PW that's 45* so I started from there and went up. I've never owned a 60* and won't be looking to change in that direction until I much better around the greens (high handicapper here). I hit what I could get my hands on. I liked lots of wedges but the Vokeys just plain felt better to me. I've used them a few times and I think once I get used to them, they are going to be great. They check up much better than anything I've used before and I need to figure out when to be aggressive and when not to. Mostly though, I'm happy with the current setup. We'll have to see how I feel in a year
  22. He's taking less SALARY. I don't believe for a second that he thinks he's taking on less money. He makes most of his money from endorsements (thanks Nike). Any money he's giving up in salary he believes he will make back in endorsements if they win or he wouldn't sign for less money. ESPN (aka LJ's love monkey) tried to spout that crap too!
  23. Was doing Yoga as part of P90X earlier this year and felt that it was beneficial. I'm not very flexible so the Yoga was hard for me but the added flexibility feels like it helps me swing a club (and a softball bat) more easily.
  24. I loved the open honest reaction from the Cavs owner. All the sugar coated Lebron-lovin' BS ESPN tries to shove down our throats is annoying. At least ESPN showed a little sack last night when they mentioned that LJ is not the leagues #1 villian! Go anybody but the Heat! As you can tell, I think it's a shame that he went to the Heat. The league would have been so much more interesting if he chose ANY of the other teams he was considering.
  25. Good post, thanks for sharing. I'm in Raleigh and played 9 after work today. It was hot and I walked. I was playing in a 4-some but we were all taking extra shots (not counting them) because there was no one in front or behind us. I'm a high handicapper and I try to shape shots sometimes. Tonight I was behind a tree and had to hit a hook to get to the green. I gave it a try and hooked it right up in front of the green. Another time tonight I hit a draw off the tee on a dog leg left. That one hooked a bit too much and I ended up under a tree on the left. Do I want to be shaping shots all over the place? Heck no, I'm too busy trying to hit it somewhat straight But the more I try the more I'll learn.
