  1. The GPS notification is sent to your cart screen as a reminder- not meant to be punitive. I'm sure sending a Marshall out would be next step. Could even be an automated mssg based on your start time. Shutting down the cart would create chaos. My group (both carts) got the mssg on Sunday. A first for me but we picked it up. One of our group was struggling. It was effective.
  2. Shot 74 yesterday with 2 birdies at Cinnebar Hills. Frustrating round because I struck the ball well and burned the edges on a number of putts. I had 8 birdie putts inside of 20' and only made two. Felt like I was rolling the rock pretty good so I can't feel bad except for what could have been.
  3. Typically around here, pace of play is defined as maintaining position two shots behind the group in front of you. Not two shots ahead of the group behind you. The course I've been playing lately will send mssgs to your cart's GPS if you fall a hole behind. On a weekend, if I tee off before 8:00, I'm finished in 4 hours. After 9:00 and it can jump to a 5+ hour round.
  4. I'm a Technical Recruiter for SkyNet. I work for the Advanced Technologies and Projects group.
  5. Another common cause of this is that you're using your arms too much instead of hip/leg rotation to generate clubhead speed. If this is the case, you'll hit almost every club the same distance (give or take a few yards).
  6. This. Although if you're that interested, you can stand on the line on the opposite side of the hole. Personally, I've never found it to be much help.
  7. IME... not much. I've played two of the most exclusive clubs in NorCal- Cypress Point 10+ times and about 5-6x at SF Golf Club- and it's the golf not the ammeneties that make them what they are.
  8. One of my buddy's favorite lines. We picked up a 4th and he felt the need to comment on almost every shot. Finally my friend looked at him and said; "If you're not gonna lick my balls, then don't talk to them." Some of my favorites; A Blondie- fair crack up the middle A Cher- thin and ugly but still working A Rosanne- fat & ugly BIPSICYOYO- Ball in pocket, sitting in cart, you're on your own
  9. Read Rotella's "golf is not a game of perfect". Not trying is the hardest thing to do. Been my experience anyway.
  10. Speaking of guitar... if any NorCal members are around this weekend, my band's playing on Saturday from 9:00-10:00 (you can still make that Sunday am tee time!) Complete wank fest of old school hard rock tunes (set list below). 2 Minutes To Midnight Rainbow in the Dark Highway Star Ace of Spades Wrathchild Hellion/Electric Eye Holy Diver Open Fire Hair of the Dog Swords & Tequila Welcome to the Jungle Problem Child Whole Lotta Rosie
  11. Ball flight left-to-right? Or a block right on misses? You're very flat at the top and then have to make a psuedo over-the-top move to get the club back in the slot to get your hands back in front of your upper body. I'd start by trying to get your right arm out away from your body into a 90* "L" position more at the top. It'll feel like a flying elbow at first, but will get you in a better position.
  12. Nick Price's mechanics with Freddie's tempo. At least that's the picture in my head.
  13. Sounds like a great time and a beautiful day- congrats! For a short par 4, the first tee is nerve racking. It's such a fishbowl. And 7,8,9,10,17,18 are 6 of the best holes in golf.
  14. OK that makes sense. The only thing I saw is that your right elbow gets trapped behind your hip coming down into impact. Same swing fault causes both the block and the hook- flip your hands through to catch up= hook/ keep hands passive=block. There's plenty of drills on youtube you can search to find one that works for you. Good luck-
  15. A divot going left is not necessarily an outside-in swing path. My swing is inside-in and my divot on a well struck straight ball is always left of target.
  16. From what I could tell, it looks real solid. What is your typical miss? I'm trying to put this swing together with a 17+hcp and it doesn't fit.
  17. Shot a 79 with 3 doubles on Sunday at Callipe in Pleasanton. Nice track, good greens, nothing too tricky. Generally hit the ball well, but three shots in the environmentally protected areas and there you go.
  18. Kind of... I did ace a hole, but no witnesses so it doesn't count. I was working at a course back in '98 and jumped on the back 9 early one day. 195 downhill with water in front. Hit a solid shot, tracking all the way but lost it coming down (still dark at 6:30 am). There was a group on the tee near the green and I started yelling for them to check the cup, but they thought I was yelling at them for hitting extra shots or something 'cause they jumped in their cart and sped off! So... been playing almost 40 years and still waiting.
  19. If you're playing Wilson Staffs, the Macgregors are probably the closest. Nike & Titleist are virtually the same stick. Don't know the Bridgestones, but I have an old set of Cleveland Byron Nelson blades that are sweet. IME, every forged blade I've hit plays pretty much the same. Hit 'em all and get the set that suits you.
  20. Not really a nickname... it's his name. Like calling John "Johnny". No one's mentioned "Lefty" yet.
  21. OK maybe I'm reading this differently. 1. I'm guessing a 5.4 index is the min requirement for some of the local amateur events. 2. He's playing to a 9, but understands that rebuilding his game to get to a 5.4 or better will likely result in worse scores during the transition. If this is the case, then yes it'll get worse before it gets better. But only you can decide if it's worth it. IME, you'll sacrifice an entire year getting your game in shape to drop down 4-5 strokes and it'll take another season of competetive play before those changes will hold up under any kind of pressure. If the opposite is true- you could easily play to a 5 or better and chose not to for net events, then.... well you already know.
  22. Pretty obvious when you see a group taking eight putts on the green or giving themselves any putt that's on the green. The last one I played in our group shot a 60 and and finished in 5th place. Now it's possible that these groups bought a zillion mulligans so I won't judge. Doesn't matter because it's for charity. And a scramble is a way for everyone at any level to enjoy the game so for that it serves a purpose. Just not the kind of golf outing that I enjoy.
  23. I play in 2 a year- both charity events. You can buy mulligans and buy a length of string by the foot for gimmes. Typically the team that cheats the best wins.
  24. For a normal full swing? Late- I try to let the club set my wrists.
  25. Straight line measurement. Contour changes on the walking surface are not calculated into the distance. Does that answer the question?
