  1. I've heard of hitting through the ball from many sources.... which I think is more or less the same as "let the ball get in the way of your swing". Then, recently, I came across a video in which the instructor said something to the effect of "put your energy into the ball, not down the line". For me, that thought seems somwhere in between 'hit down' and 'hit through', but I realize it's very subjective and I'm no expert. Just throwing that out there in case it helps.
  2. Wow. At least you know what to work on. Shouldn't be too hard to drop your handicap.
  3. I wish I didn't have to wear a glove because I have a ridiculous tan line. I just don't get as solid a grip without one. You guys got me thinking about looking into different grips.
  4. Huh! I found one of those and assumed it got hit by the lawnmower. Not so sure now.
  5. I played with a gps for the first time today. The course I play most of the time only has 150 markers and on at least one hole it's hard to find. Recently when playing on a course with 100 yard markers I realized that I didn't even know what to hit at 100 yards. I've been eyeballing it... "this looks like a gap wedge". I really enjoyed playing with gps, and I'm sure that in no time at all I'll know my club distances better. I think it was worth the money and I'm cheap . ;)
  6. That's what I'm doing this summer. It's much easier and cheaper (and fun) for me to play than go to the range. I do take advantage of the chipping/putting green at my course, however. And I study a lot and do some indoor practice at home. With all the "Can't take it from the range to the course" threads I've seen, I tend to believe the "40%" more than the 80/20 listed above. I'm just a newb though.
  7. I order so much stuff that the UPS guy knows me by name and knows how to find me at work or home. I always get my packages ;)
  8. This is too wierd. I was just thinking about starting a thread about this, and in fact I logged on just to read up on this subject. (Note OP's screen name). I was just doing some pendulum drills and I was finding that lifting my left heel and planting it seemed to help me shift my weight better and more smoothly. Not sure if I'll start doing it in my swing but it's worth a shot.
  9. I just did that for my best score ever. Missed most fairways and greens but chipped well enough to recover par or bogey on every hole.
  10. Eighty freaking three! My best ever... by 6. Unfortunately it wasn't very satisfying though.... my driving sucked and I mean sucked. If it had been a real course and not my slope 103 muni I'd have been OB or in deep doo-doo. My muni course has some challenging holes (for me anyway), but the fairways are WIDE open. I usually drive OK... not too long but long enough and in the fairways. Today I was left left left. The good news is I didn't slice except for the one time I wanted to (dogleg right). The only thing that I did really well was chip, which was a good thing because my putting was nothing to be proud of either (although it was better than it had been in awhile). I'd be really happy with my score if it weren't for the awful driving. I think I'd be happier with a 90 and hitting the fairways. Actually now that I think about it... I actually never hit all the way into another fairway. Maybe that's not so bad after all.
  11. I usually play 9 holes so my 9 hole score gives me a better idea of how I'm doing. Besides, it's still my first year and I expect my consistency to improve. I'll worry more about 18 hole scores next year. Although when calculating my handicap I only use full 18 hole scores.
  12. Where in Western NY? I play almost every day in Buffalo.
  13. Man this is good stuff. http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/index.p...urriculum.html I especially like the part about the finish (turning radius and ulna) as I have never been able to figure out how you're supposed to get through to the finish with shots like that. And that's just chapter one
  14. Hey grantc79 thanks for the awesome info. I'll take you up on your offer as I get more into this and get more confused
  15. Yeah, after reading your post I ordered TGM on amazon. I also found the Lynn Blake site shortly afterward. This site here however is making me believe I was absolutely wrong and that a one plane/rotary swing goes hand in hand with "swinging". I'll figure it out as I read more thought I guess. Thanks again.
  16. grantc79 - Thanks for the input. Sounds like hitting is a good fit for me. I'll give it a shot.
  17. I've read through most of the posts on one plane vs two plane and hitter vs swinger, and I think I've got a fairly decent handle on the subjects as they stand on their own. While I'm sure neither of these "vs." models is absolutely rock solid, understanding the fundamentals of one plane vs two plane has really helped me narrow down what I should be working one (I decided on one plane). I'm finding the hitter vs swinger model equally intriguing as this is something that is a point of confusion for me and there is a lot of seemingly contradictory information. I feel like I need to pick one and go with it. So, as far as hitter vs swinger... does one model fit better with a one plane swing? If I had to guess I'd say hitter goes more with one plane and swinger with two plane(?). Any thoughts on this? I hear a lot of people say not to think about the hands but I just feel too much like I have no idea what I'm doing from the elbows down and it's not helping matters
  18. Is lateral movement typically defined as the small amount of lateral movement before the hips start turning or the total amount of forward movement from the top of the backswing to impact? It looks to me like Hogan moved laterally about an inch before the hip turn.
  19. I think the above poster meant Precept *Laddie *Top Flite Gamer Others I've heard recommended but have no experience with: Pinnacle Exception Dunlop 65u Maxfli Revolution Ext
  20. I almost always walk and carry my clubs on my back. I ski too. I guess I do a bit of bike riding too. None of these really really gets me in great shape, but they definitely help, and I just can't make myself go to the gym when I could be skiing, golfing, disc golfing, or doing something fun ;) I think if I were to take the time to do anything it would be yoga. Secondly, full body-in-motion exercises like squats, dips, pullups, and push-ups. I just feel like these improve flexibility, strength, and muscular balance at the same time. Actually... I forget the name and I can't find it right now but there is a lady who has a stretching routine on PBS that is more influenced by ballet than yoga and it looks a bit better than yoga at least to me.
  21. Yes it does help, thanks. Although I was initially trying to determine whether or not this applied to a more rotary swing, you also answered something else that's been bothering me lately that I've not been able to get from "The Plane Truth" -- the weight transfer. I went from a two-plane to a rotary/one-plane specifically because I have a seemingly uncurable tendency to hang back. While the more rotary swing definitley helped, it didn't completely cure it. I've been looking at stack and tilt as a possible solution, or at least a learning aid. But what you're saying about moving the knee makes a lot of sense, and seems to do the trick (at least in my living room). I'll give it a go at the course tomorrow. I'll re-read "Four Magic Moves" and see if it makes more sense now. Thanks for taking the time to write that up!
  22. I picked up one of these. The price is right and quality seems good enough. Whether it helps my putting or not is another question... not sure about that one. Makes decent marker at the very least. Actually I bought one for me and one for my girlfriend and he sent me a "poker-chip" style one for free.
  23. What are these people doing to slow down play? Two practice swings should take 3 seconds.
  24. Is the early wrist break equally effective for one and two plane swings ala Jim Hardy? It would seem the lateral hip slide is strictly two-plane.
