While going down the rabbit hole this thread popped up. I managed to get through this thread because Erik wasn't overtly rude and was actually thoughtful.

Working on getting BS shoulders on steeper plane and trying to keep in sync better/shorter BS. Downswing working on clearing left shoulder better and right shoulder working more out. Lots of work to be continued.

You are not going to be able to get the tilt your looking for with your head moving that much forward in the downswing. Just my opinion, and as i said before that is an issue I suggest focusing on as much as the regime may disagree.
-
Hey GD, I suggest working on your posture at address. imho I would like to see your neck and head more relaxed and tilted downward. and relax the your lower back as well. you do not want that little curvature (lumbar lordosis) at address.
-
I think your swing is looking great, but what do you mean by you went full ZJ?

The reason I mentioned him winning the US open on a busted knee was to put an exclamation point on his ability to overcome obstacles.

this guy won the US Open! on a crippled knee -mic dropped

I was under the impression people would post their swings in the Member Swings forum to get free advice and take the nuggets you like and forgot the rest realizing the intentions are good, at least I find that enjoyable. I apologize if I offended you or anyone else that was not my intentions. I have studied the golf swing quite a bit, but in no way a Master and do not claim to be and probably never will be. Relatively speaking I am a very good player and getting to where I am now was through trial n error, reading countless articles, discussing ideas with Instructors and more importantly not being afraid to be wrong, which I often am =) and to learn from mistakes n turn them into wisdom. I think I saw that on a bumper sticker. I didn't tell anyone to do anything nor would I unless it was to prevent someone from hurting someone else, but I did make a suggestion and the rest is in the air to grab if you want it. And the advice I gave in regards to lunging in transition/head moving past the ball thru impact is directly related to 1 of the issues Wanzo said he was working on. Even if I provided free advice that wasn't related I do not see the harm. In regards to the feet and knees together drill that has been around since the beginning of golf. I've never heard any instructor say that drill could be detrimental or retard someone's progress. Some drills are like vitamins, even if they don't wildly advance your health its still worthwhile to take the vitamins since they have been known to help so many and no evidence that they have hurt anyone. That drill typically gives players the feeling of how much the arms actually do in the swing and greatly improves body awareness, at least that's my opinion. Looks like you made good improvement just from Dec. 20 - Jan 2nd. That's awesome if it has been getting better so quickly. Keep up the good work.

Pop ups are driving me to despair! Help please.
JDP replied to Joefree's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Shoulder turn is too flat. 2 videos below that demo very well turning 2 n fro. The 2nd video is a drill and its especially nice since you don't have to think about why/how, etc. but perform the action and you will well on your way down the right path. -
Why do you think I didn't notice Wanzo has been working with an instructor and notice some nice improvement?
-
Also, I said "Spieth who move forward just a TAD in the DS but he moves back towards impact". I should have been clearer and said Spieth's head moves forward just a TAD in the DS, but his head moves backwards toward impact. Still not something anyone teaches =)
-
Ideally it should not move forward in the DS. I am doofus and mistyped and I think you figured that . Although there a few elite golfers like Spieth who move forward just a TAD in the DS but he moves back towards impact and not a move you would teach, so =) the head should not move forward in the DS, my bad.

The video below should help you get a better understanding how the body works to n fro. Get this down and you will see drastic improvement. Also if nothing else do tons of feet and knees together swing drills. That will give you so much body awareness. Listed a video below the 1st one that gives a great tutorial. Enjoy and hope it helps.

Hi Wanzo, Imho, I would strongly suggest focusing quite a bit on your upper body/head moving forward in the DS. Also I suggest doing a lot of the feet and knees together drill for a lot of reasons and it never gets old it is a keeper. It will also give you great body/arm awareness, basically it is a great drill and if that is all you ever did at the range you would probably see tremendous improvement. Below is a good tutorial how to go about it.

I think the drill below will really help give you body awareness of good rotation to n fro.

Do you have any DTL videos?

I can get the club to appear more laid off or on plane so to speak vs. crossed up/across the line. The below is a 8 iron swing This swing doesn't cross the line and of course it wouldn't appear that way is it is only 3/4 of the way to parallel, but it appears to look solid even so. However, I feel my elbow is too far behind and I think this is due to my left arm running across my chest too much going back. I'm missing the lift with my left arm, do you agree? I mean I think i would go Doug Sanders if i keep the right elbow pointed down if i continued the BS. My hand depth is pretty deep looking and this is just an 8 iron. Would you suggest trying more left arm vertical lift? I'm looking for some ideas to get this feeling

Erik, this question may be very difficult, but picking the brain of the guru. I am really trying to get a better understanding of ways to clear the left hip so nicely with keeping the right hip back. I'm thinking it is to externally rotate the right hip while the left hip externally rotates, so duel external rotationion. Please tell if I am way off there. I am really struggling with this move. I'm not EEing but I feel like I can only clear my left hip back n away if my right hip starts to internally rotate and thrust early, its really frustrating.

Hey Erik, documenting for my progress basically, but any input is very much appreciated, so ty for taking the time. BTW i do lots of slo-mo swings up to full swings, mirror work and video work. You mentioned you feel my right elbow is a flaw and I agree with you at the top it is. I was checking to see video after changing a few positions at setup. Not a fan of the length of the swing a bit sloppy but I will work on that. It was very windy and cold today but still digging it out. Below is a crop of the position at the top of my BS P4 then P4.ish. It appears to me the positions seem fine. Do you see something else there? I feel a 1 big issue for me is firing my right hip too early This pic is clearing since I am wearing short sleeve -P4. Need work on more width for sure, but looks decent

I feel you. At some point it boils down to disciplined practice. I don't really care if i shank, top, basically what happens at the driving range if I am truly working on making the correct things, thats what the range is for. I thank you for pointing out this fault as it has been looming on my mind, not sure if that is the proper explanation, but now I feel comfortable and confident focusing on 1 area. thx!
-
Yea it is definitely bending past 90%. Any drills you can think of to improve.
-
Thanks I really appreciate you taking a look and the feedback. Just making sure I understand what you mean by right elbow over bends. I'm pretty sure you mean I am losing width, is that correct?
-
for funky moves. Your right elbow move is really great though. I posted my swing also but unfortunately no advice so that is means my swing is amazing which well ii dont think it is or my video quality stinks or something else. Please do me a favor and take a look and if you see anything egregious let me know or any advice please. Biggest thing i dislike in my swing is 2 things, 1st, head moving off ball too much in BS for my liking and 2nd, poor extension thru impact.
