  1. I like that kid out of Stanford. Elrod or Elroy Woods, whatever his name is.
  2. 1 dozen Nike "soft" balls... even though I didn't need them. I tried putters for an hour and couldn't decide on what I want and thought I should at least buy something for taking up their time.
  3. My 7 year old daughter began taking lessons in May, and it took her about 3 weeks to even get the first ball into the air. Fast forward 3 months, and she's playing double-bogey golf from the 100 yard marker. I know there are kids that age who are better, but her progress has been one of the most rewarding things I've witnessed as a dad. Now, if we can get her 1 and 2 putting instead of 3 and 4 putting....
  4. If you're keeping pace, chop away at it! You did the right thing by insisting that your group keep up, well done. As for score... with those numbers I wouldn't bother. My humble opinion is that unless you can shoot a legit 108 (double bogey), there's no need to keep a scorecard... unless you're gambling.
  5. With soooooo many to choose from, recommending clubs would be like recommending which car you should buy without knowing your driving habits, need for fuel economy, etc. I'd say pick a category; game improvement, super game improvement, player's, etc. After that, look at the irons in that category and decide which ones you'd like to know more about and ask here, and definately try to go hit them.
  6. I recommended looking into the SZ's because they've worked very well for me. I don't have personal experience with the other irons you're looking at. I hit the SZ's high and straight, and as someone prone to mis-hit, I can definately say they don't make you pay as dearly for your mistakes. I play the stiff Nippon shafts.
  7. I need to watch for this. I sometimes hit thin, or top the ball with my irons. The guys I'm playing with say my swing doesn't look any different when I do it, so this may be the culprit.

    Utility Woods

Since buying one, I'm pretty well convinced that hybrids are making the smaller fairway woods obsolete.

  10. I'm going to have to pick some of those up. I have about 120yds that I can hit across my lawn... if those fly 1/3 distance I should be able to hit every club in my bag at home.
  11. I play worse the second time around, usually. And usually it's because I play a serious round first, then have a few drinks at the clubhouse before filling a cooler and going out and trying to smash everything straight at the flag.
  12. Yep, I know I could look it up, but then what would we talk about? Here's the situation... 2 players hit their second shots (or first, for that matter) into a bunker. Ball 2 comes to rest against ball 1, with neither being closer to the flag. Who plays first? What is done with the other ball while the first ball is played?
  13. She was a very nice young lady .
  14. Our club has native grass areas like that, but treat them as out of bounds. There are no stakes, but signs stating entering the area is a one stroke penalty under local rule.
  15. Back when I was single, I got a date with a cheerleader from a the St Louis Rams while she was working a beer cart at a charity tournament. Does that count?
  16. On the back we decided to go for it on every shot, no matter the lie, distance to the green, etc. It was fun, but obviously not good for scoring. We played "chug one" as a penalty for laying up, or not taking a straight line toward the flag. No one was penalized, but we all paid the penalty several times.
  17. I have a PS2, and aWii, and play neither very much or very well. What would be a good golf game for one of these consoles for a guy who doesn't want to spend 3 hrs/ day trying to figure it out?
  18. My back nine yesterday could get me in the running for worst golfer ever. 54, after a 42 on the front. Apparently that "liquid swing lubricant" doesn't work.
  19. Really? Not even once?
  20. I like the idea of letting the hi-caps scramble. I've got a couple of buddies who are twice-per-year golfers that I might try this with.
  21. My approach to putting is to make the speed my first priority for anything outside of about 6ft, leaving myself a tap in for my second putt... and sometimes that first one actually falls.
  22. As long as the ground isn't frozen, I'm good to go. If it's really windy on top of being cold, I won't play though.
  23. As others have said, I'd lose the 3i. If you're dead set on keeping it, the 5w or one of the wedges would go next... most likely the 5w.
  24. I play with alot of old guys, too. Can someone please tell me how they have a 1/4 backswing, and about 1/2 turn finish and still drive the ball 250yds down the center of the fairway?
