You're supposed to do the same thing in pool, the other sport I play, by staring at the object ball instead of the cue ball. It has to do with trusting your stroke there, and I assume the same in golf. I'm a lot better at pool than I am at golf and I still can't do it.

Gah, what a dunderhead mistake I made. I just did a search for him real quick to get a picture. I thought the one on the right was him with a shaved mustache. My bad.

Exactly. The way I determine if the ball matters to me is I ask myself this question: "Can I afford to lose a dozen of them in the water, over the fence, out of bounds etc?" I usually buy the 2 dozen refurbished for 20 bucks or 15 top flites for 10 bucks.

Leave the flag in, angle it slightly and yank it out quickly. The flip your ball up with your putter and catch it in your shirt pocket. You can scream "Booya" every time if you want to look extra cool. Of course there may be ants clinging to the ball.

That's good to know. It didn't strike me as something he would do, but I wasn't really paying attention at the end to remember it. I know a lot of people that hate him simply because of the color of his skin, but he's never given me a reason to not like him. So I'll keep on.

I read in one article bashing him that he didn't shake Yangs hand after the match and he left the press conference really early. Is that true?

Wow I can't believe noone mentioned "The Walrus". Of course now he looks more like John Goodman.

I don't think it's a common courtesy thing as far as whoever is winning. I think he just does it because he knows the crowd is going to roar like crazy after he does anything. It's not really fair to make your partner putt during that kind of noise.

I eat single digits for breakfast...three of 'em! Not that it matters but I feel it would be 9 or less.

I couldn't find any other threads on the subject but I thought it was an interesting change. I only caught a few snippets on Sunday, but from what I could gather he was basically staring at the hole while he putted. It seemed to work out pretty good for him, considering how he's been putting lately.

Wow, I just saw a news interview with him where he was joined on the course by the reporter. He was playing with his shirt off and no shoes, I think I'm blind. He posted a message on his facebook stating he was leaving it: I AM ANNOUNCING THAT I AM SHUTTING DOWN MY FACEBOOK--CAN'T TAKE THESE NEGATIVE COMMENTS WHEN I'M TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH MY TRUE FANS. SORRY, BUT THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT Probably based on comments like this one: Declan way to go my arse. Pull your ^*&^ together man or get off the block......and ps, i know a guy who $&*&*% your wife.

I never understood this attitude. I've been to several Master's practice rounds and even my wife, who doesn't play golf, went out and got a pair of cleats. It's a pain getting up and down some of the hills. A lot of these courses don't have cart paths and not every one on this board is a 16 year old on a high school golf team.

I just saw an announcement that he was given a sponsor's exemption to the upcoming Wyndham tournament.

Cough, basketball, figure skating, gymnastics cough The whole point of adding sports to the Olympics is to bring in new viewers. More people are going to watch to see if Tiger Woods can get a gold medal than they will if Joe Podunk from Bumfunk, Egypt will struggle for his bronze and be on a Weedies box with Michael Phelps.

I'd heard the name Moe Norman but couldn't remember where exactly. That's definitely an interesting swing and he seemed to be consistent with it. I'm suprised they don't mention how far back away from the ball he started the club head, it was back almost a foot it seemed.

In Pelz's Short Game book he mentions this technique and states that it is indeed legal, and he recommends it.

what is the average length par 4 for a bogey golfer?
Smarf replied to clearwaterms's topic in Golf Talk
Are we talking yards as in 36 inches or internet yards which are only a few inches in length? I'm a double bogey golfer and I hit the ball 300 internet yards, but my gps uses some funky math and says it's only 215. -
I haven't seen any dawn rates around here but I found something odd the other day. I took off work early and booked a tee time online with last minute golf around 12 noon for 25 bucks. That's 18 holes with a cart and about 10 cheaper than normal. I was playing single so I got paired up with another single who was just playing 9. I asked him how much was it to play 9 holes during the week and it's 5 dollars MORE than the 18 hole rate. He ended up clipping a coupon from the golf newspaper in the clubhouse that gets you 18 holes and a sleeve of balls for a few dollars more than 9 holes. So he got that and just left after 9. I just don't understand the mentality of charging more for less I guess.

Wow, I can't believe one of the places I play appeared on the list. Knight's Play in Apex, NC. I don't really care too much for the driving range, but I do like the 27 hole par 3 course. The driving range slopes down and then up, flags are marked off at various intervals and updated based on which mat you're hitting from. The landing area near the flag resembles a green but I wouldn't call it a "realistic target". What I do like that I haven't seen at any of our other driving ranges around here is a practice sandtrap. It's set off to the end of the range and about 10 feet from a nice green with flag. Their putting green has small spiked flags you can stick whereever you want, but I think I'd prefer an actual hole.

I've never been so mad to shoot a 78
Smarf replied to right handed phil mickelson's topic in Golf Talk
I think there is a big difference between having a little anger in you on the course and resorting to breaking your clubs or punching a bag. I was fortunate enough to learn that at a young age when I broke a video game controller. It was the only one I had and my parents refused to buy me another. So I mowed grass for a few weeks until I saved up enough and now I have a greater respect for the things I own. -
I had a really low lofted 4 iron from the fairway that sailed about 3 feet off the ground the whole way to the green. It slowly curved right, directly for the sandtrap, hit the ground, hopped the sand trap, smacked into the rake and kicked left up onto the green about 10 feet from the hole.

I couldn't find a stat for average par on all PGA courses in a season, but I added up 54 of them from the hardest courses on tour list and it was around 69.8. Round up to 70 and a score of 88 would be bogey golf.

I've read this several times in your posts on this thread. What does that mean exactly?

I'd like to see a "Day in the Life of a Tour Caddy" story. Explaining how they walk a course, odd ball information and trivia about eccentric pro's etc. Is there a book or anything about the caddy life?
