  1. I only caught part of the show, though im sure it will be on again this week, i think golf channel reruns the show at least one one time every week. Ill have to check tvguide.com and see when its on again locally. The one tip I got that im going to try is lining the ball up with your left shoulder instead of your left foot for driver, which will mean moving the ball slightly farther back in my stance. Maybe im not hitting the ball at the point where my driver is moving fastest or hitting the ball square, which could be why ive been struggling lately. Ill give that a try at the range and see if perhaps I hit my driver better and try to let my arms hand down naturally and hold the club like that, hadnt really thought about how I hold the club lately. Its nice to get tips from shows like that. They're free advice that I can try. If they help, great. If not, well I didnt have to pay for them so nothings lost.
  2. Speaking of advertising, anyone ever hit any of the Bobby Jones clubs, I see the infomercials all the time on golf channel, just wonder if anyone has tried any of them, wedges, hybrids, fairway woods or driver. If only they made irons and a putter. They look like good clubs, just dont think they're worth the price they're asking for them on tv, im sure they're on ebay for less. They seem to claim a lot of awards and endorcements from magazines.
  3. No excuse, even if it was a par 5 and someone reached it in 2, you gave them the chance to play through, they declined, which gave them no right to even be up your ass. Just a bunch of no class •••••••s, you should have waited and said something, that kind of behavior needs to be stopped or next time they will hit someone or come close and the group they hit into wont be so forgiving(ie 7 iron to the back of the head) Im not saying start a fight or anything but you have to do something to prevent the inevitable from happening to another group that might be ahead of them sometime. They clearly dont get it. I hate to wait, im impatient but I know i cant hit into the group ahead of me, these guys need to learn that. Its not allowed at any level, thats why it takes so long for pga players to play a round, they're so slow on every shot that the groups always get bunched up and have to wait but they do just that wait, talk to caddy, get a drink, eat a snack, whatever they have to do to make sure they dont hit into the group ahead.
  4. They have these things called golf carts, most are electric though a few are still gas powered, maybe youve heard of them. I seldom walk, i dont play golf for exercise, i work out independently of playing golf. I dont understand why anyone would even care if you had a pushcart, what a bunch of a**holes if they do. The only time i carry my bag is from the car down to the driving range, about a 100 yard walk each way and I wouldnt want to carry it any further, though its a cart stand bag so im sure its much heavier than some of the lighter bags out there. Around here, if you see someone walking they're the minority, everyone rides, it just makes everyone play faster. The only time I usually walk is at the local par 3 course because the holes are so short and you would have to do a lot of walking anyway as you cant drive the cart that close to the hole and i use a push cart, was using the one they provided but recently acquired one trading an old driver for it so i may use it the next time i go as they sometimes charge for using their push carts.
  5. Ive never played anywhere that didnt allow jeans or shorts but I guess ive never played at any high dollar exclusive richy rich snooty country clubs that i probably couldnt afford anyway so I guess Ill always be allowed to wear jeans or shorts anywhere i go. Most courses are more concerned with how you treat the course and behave more than how you look, as long as you at least wear a shirt you're good to go around here. They're happy to have people playing and making money. Once I was at a course and they didnt like that i wasnt wearing a collared shirt, just a t shirt and they said next time I needed to wear one. I havent played there since.

    range balls

In general, range balls are going to be cheaper, inferior versions of what we would play on the course to keep costs down as the range i go to has quite a generous area to keep the ball in play but i will hit a few out into the woods that im sure are never found and Ive seen other people there that are much worse than me so the amount of range balls that are lost per day im sure adds up. Im sure probably at least once a month there are enough balls lost or damaged so much as to be unuable that more have to be purchased. So expect poor quality, cheap balls at the range. I dont seem to notice any noticable amount of lost distance though i dont have an overly high swing speed, i would guess around 90 mph or so. I just use the range to keep my swing sharper and sometimes experiment with different things like varying my grip or stance or things like that. Like was stated earlier, if range balls were nice, many people would pocket them and use them for play.
  7. lve never bought anything from craigslist yet, was looking for a set of used tires for my old 4x4 f250 but finally just gave up, every time i found a set that was a decent price, they were already sold, the ones i have on it are good enough for a long time no more than i drive it anyway. Its that way with a lot of things on there, if its a great price it sells very quickly but its still listed. I've had trouble contacting people through email on there unless they actually list their email address, its much better when they just simply give a phone number for you to either call or text them. I still check every once in a while just for fun and if i had something to sell i would use it.
  8. Provisional is what i usually do if i think tee shot is out of bounds, then i make sure i know where the provisional went and look for original ball. It does depend on how busy the course is. But i have never went back to the tee and hit another tee shot and have never seen another golfer do it either whether playing along side or ahead of me. I realize thats not completely following the rules and If i were playing in a tournament i wouldnt be able to do that. I recently hit 3 shots ob in a row on a par 4 down at crab orchard in carterville il, ending up making a 10 on that hole. In that case i was 100% certain all shots were ob so i kept hitting tee shots until i got on in bounds. As far as hitting into the group in front of me, i wait until a group is at least 300 yards ahead of me, give or take a few as I have never hit the ball that far though with the new driver im waiting to arrive, who knows, have to find out how it works out.
  9. most of the time you can never go back to the tee, someone else is already there and they wouldnt appreciate you doing that. If its a foot OB and not in a hazard, I'd play it unless youre in a tournament or something or under a fence, keep pace of play up. Going back and teeing up again is great in a tournament where its required but in a casual round give me a break. Golf has so many dumb rules that slow play down that dont matter if you're just out having fun. Ive never went back to the tee to rehit a shot OB, i just try to guess where it went out and play a penaltly shot from there.
  10. Harringtons fairway bunker shot from I believe last years pga championship on a really long par 5, 302 yards away and he got it on the green, not sure what club he used but I was amazed he was able to reach and get the ball to stick on the green about 15 ft away or so. If he had only made the putt. Watsons approach shot on 18 in the 77 british open at turnberry, 178 yards away with a 7 iron tied with Jack and able to hit it to 4 feet and make birdie to win, especially after Jack made a very long birdie putt seconds before to force Watson to make the putt to avoid a playoff. Maybe not the hardest shot but head to head with Jack in his prime pressure on that shot had to be immense.
  11. usually either water or gatorade
  12. Sounds like you have your long club, if i could hit my 3 hybrid that far all the time, i wouldnt have any fairway woods at all, hybrids are just a lot more versatile. I only use my 3 wood and new 5 wood if I get a perfect lie in the fairway or from the tee on a short par 4, otherwise Ill hit my 3 hybrid, especially in the rough. 200 yards straight down the middle is better than inconsistent yardage and direction from a less than perfect lie with a fairway wood though it is fun when i have a mile to go on a par 5 to just take a mighty whack and see how far I can hit them sometimes.
  13. St Louis Rams headcover for driver as a gift for christmas 2 years ago and mismatched generic headcover for 3 wood.
  14. $25 sounds like a lot for someone to ride along, ive had people ride along who werent playing, one course let them ride for free but most will just charge cart fees though i guess their cart fees might be that much where you're going. My friend brought his son along(he's 7) and i think they charged like $5 for insurance for him to ride along but he was small enough that all 3 of us rode in the same cart so we werent using up any availble space. Thats another thing some courses might take into consideration on a busy day is how many carts they have available and making sure they fill all to capacity but if you pay to ride i doubt that would matter. My sister and her fiance went to colorado last year i think and he played at a course out there and she rode along(she doesnt play). I never asked if they charged for her to ride along or how much.
  15. So how many tournaments does he play between now and the US Open? Im guessing his next tournament will be the Players in May, im assuming he wont miss that one, maybe one more between then and the US Open. Everyone else has had all year to play with the new grooves and the Masters was Tigers first tournament using them, so it might take a while to to adjust. His swing looked forced at times, even chunking his 3 wood off the tee once, but still came in 4th at far from his best. By the US Open at his favorite course he should be much sharper, the rest of the field needs to practice harder to compete.
  16. Ive tried using a glove at the range, ive given away 2-3 of them that i ceceived as gifts. I just cant get a good feel of the club with a glove on, just doesnt feel right, never actually played a round using one.
  17. Dont count on ebay refunding your money. I got ripped off several years ago buying a part for a friend, though that was before everyone had paypal. It was just $10 but it really pissed me off. With zero feedback, id steer clear of this person, feedback is important on ebay because its really the only way you know a seller is reputable.
  18. I had a bad session at the range today. I started out as I usually do hitting wedges, then up to the short irons, mid irons and then on up, doing ok. Then i got to my hybrids and it got worse, hit a few ok shots but when i got to the 3 wood and driver, nothing but horrible shots. Even when I was teeing up for 3 wood, couldnt get the ball off the ground and couldnt much with the driver either, poor distance. Maybe by then myu back was getting a bit stiff, im not sure, but although im not a great player, i usually dont get cheated on distance at the range with driver, even if my accuracy isnt always the best. Maybe it was just one of those days and tomorrow, ill be ok again. I took out my frustration on my new 5 wood, thinking at first it was at fault. Took it and snapped the shaft in half over my knee, i only paid 10 bucks for it off ebay and I didnt really like it anyway but Ive never lost my cool like that before. The guy next to me at the range I commented to that i wouldnt hit any more bad shots with that club and he just kinda said yeah and nodded his head. I want to go play tomorrow but I have to go to the range again to make sure I wont swing like that again before i play. Guess more mental than anything.
  19. Fred Couples looks sharp, Watson, Mickelson, AK, Tiger is up there too and he normally doesnt do all that spectacularly in the first round around par usually, a lot of guys playing well today, except Furyk and Stenson, both shooting 80.
  20. Its ok, though in reality if Tigers father were still alive I doubt he would have such kind and understanding words for Tiger, at least not at first. Probably a lot of 4 letter ones berating Tiger and telling him how foolish and selfish his behavior was and how it hurt his family. Probably would have stressed honor and respect and honesty as well and what it takes to be a man. I hope Tiger gets it now but what his does outside of golf really doesnt matter to me so long as he doesnt actually break the law and I think thats how most people feel at this point. Play golf and move on.
  21. Played 9 sunday at Mcleansboro Golf Course in Mcleansboro IL. Up and down all day, some bad shots but a couple really great ones, and mostly good with the driver. Hole 2, 485 yard par 5. With about prob 15 mph wind at my back, hit my longest drive ever at about 280 yards. Next hole is a short par 4, 245 yards in the opposite direction. Wind dies down for a min and I decide to hit driver as my playing partner was using his as well, never even hit driver on this hole before, usually 3 hybrid to come up short of the green as there is a huge bunker guarding the front of the green, and then pitch over with 2nd shot. I decide to go with driver and hit the shot of my life as I carry the bunker and land the ball on the green for a par 4 in 1 and then 2 putt for birdie.
  22. My first birdie was on a par 3 a couple of years ago, at Mcleansboro,IL, hole 5, about 160 yards, hit a 6 iron to 4 feet and made the putt. To this day it was the best 9 holes ive played as I got a 42(+6) that day, havent matched it since. First birdie this year and only one so far was at Indian Hills in Mt Vernon IL a couple weeks ago on hole 17, a 137 yard par 3, hit 8 iron to about 20 ft and sank the putt.
  23. 9i 105-120 pw 0-105 56 deg sw 50-75 I have a 56 deg sand wedge but seldom use it for anything but bunker shots or odd shots where i have to get the ball up quickly such as a tree right in front of me etc. Id rather just hit a partial pw for those awkward 50-60 yard shots though ive been struggling with those somewhat this year, been practicing trying to hit sw for those shots at range.
  24. One local 9 hole course has a opening par 3, about 140-145 yards depending on where the marker is and ive played at one course that has a par 3 at the 18th at fairfield il which is very similar to the 17th at tpc sawgrass, island green and about the same distance, i think i lost like 6 balls on that hole.
  25. I saw the end of that round where she went into the trailer and kept saying the same thing over and over, they werent going to change the call even though i think its one of those dumb rules that golf has that doesnt make any sense. Someone standing with one foot in the water is not allowed to rest the club on the ground, it was nowhere near the ball and didnt affect the shot at all or move the ball unlike if it was in a bunker and might affect the lie of the ball. She would have finished 2nd without it so still no chance of winning but it did affect her paycheck and world ranking. Guess next time just dont hit the ball over in a hazard and you wont have that problem. I think they said on golf channel that she has basically dropped out of school at least for this semester to concentrate on golf, shes better off, she can always go back to school after her career is over but now is when she should concentrate on her game. She is quite attractive and nice to see. Someone should have just stepped in and said Michelle you made a mistake and just dont do it again and dont try to make it worse by arguing about it, let it go, you wouldnt have won anyway. She even told them one reason she did it was because she was wearing a white skirt and didnt want to fall into the water which im sure was true but they dont care about that and im sure got a good laugh out of that after she left.
